The Stoked Thread

Oh my god, such a crazy weekend. First off, David, Will, Scott, Sam and Team Cobra - Baker opening in mandatory, we have got to meet up and ski an entire day up at Baker asap.

Friday: Went to a show at Studio 7 in Seattle, a Battle of the Bands that my friends group, the Van Eps, were featured in. Hella drunk ($2 PBR!), but they had great music. So good I would use it for a ski movie. I think I'm going to send a few of their CD's to Jeff Thomas and some local filmers, it would fit in a ski movie quite well. They ended up not winning because some gay ass band that sounded like Red Hot Chili Peppers took their entire high school to this place or something. Lame.

Saturday: Tutored, made some money, then spent it all on what followed. Triple Threat went down in a huge way. Sam brought some bellinghamers down, met scott who was picking up his skis from the shop, will brought some kick as beer from Twisp, and got to meet David. Billy did not get unrespecably drunk unfortunately, but Josh got all us core ON3P'ers decked out in Black spraypainted ON3P shits. Combined with Davids hats, it looked like a cult. My girlfriend decided to participate in the night as well, which is sweet! She might try skiing this season.

Anyways, we head down in a huge drunk and blazing crew through Fremont to Evo, get in, head for the beer garden, which is already packed. I think I got two drinks or something there, I wonder if they honor drink tickets... Anyways, we got shit singed (posters from Sammy, Benchetler, Pep, Andy and Pollard, all out to ON3P!) and started talking up the skis. Sam goes outside to 'talk' with Sammy Carlson. We're on the main floow watching one of the movies when I think Will has the comment "wish we had a pair of them here". David remarks he has them up in his car back at my apartment, and I then realize I have my unmounted pair in the very same shop. We split.

We meet back at the floor, and everyone is eying the skis. JD got to hold them... quite the moment there. We take them over to the athlete booths again, and shop guys are checking them out, and a couple high ups (regional editor of freeskier for example) like the looks of them. Pep waves the pair I have over, lays it out on the table and signs one of the skis. For anyone whos a kid and like pants... check it!

Back with the story. Will chats it up with a dude with a bushy red beard, who seems to know his stuff about homebuilts and says they're 'some of the best hes seen'. He gives Will a card and then turns to me, and as Will reads the card over the dudes shoulder I see his jaw drop. Grant Gunderson (http://www.grantgunderson.com/). "Give me a call, if I'm up at Baker with you we could do some shots."

Anyways, the night ends before the final raffle caus the GF is tired, and has a second round of hiccup attacks. We head back up with David, then I head back down after putting her to sleep for the afterparty. Meet up with peeps and get a taco at a roach coach with the pro's from the movie, and then head for Brauers since the Triangle is packed to the gills. Walked back home after a nasty beer (fucking grape juice in a belgian, WTF?) and set Will up on the floor of the pad, then pass out.

Sunday: Cleaned up the party to an acceptable level, cancelled my teaching appointment more or less, then headed out to Hurricane Ridge to enjoy the last nice day we'll have in the PWN for a while. Then it looked cloudy over the Olympics, so we changed course and went for Mt Rainier. Got to Paradise, not in any kind of hiking gear, and did a 5 mile hike up a few thousand feet to Panorama point. Girlfriends SLR died once we got there, but the sunset was really pretty. Met David up there again too, haha, he had mentioned he was skiing there. Came home late, played monoploy (FUCK THAT GAME), and went to bed. Yikes. Long but good weekend, you need these things once in a while.

Dude, I found a much better patch of leftovers on the east side of Panorama point. Choppy top with some lips and gaps with a good 30 degree runout into, well rocks, but its large enough for some fun. What are you doing next Sunday?

I didn't get a chance to talk to Grant at all and didn't hear if he was in full-on fake Australian mode by the end of the night, but I doubt it... it was kind of hard to get a drink in that tent. And by kind of hard, I mean sea-of-humanity hard. For those at IF3 who couldn't get the bartenders' attention within a 15 minute span, let me put it this way: at least we could SEE the bartenders. Cody needs to come up with a new system because TT is just too big for that setup now.

rowen you forgot how i taught you everything you need to know about gels and DNA sequencing.

missing hunting yeti to go get david's wrenegades was.......worth it? yes. because it was part of the newest olympic event: chug redbullvodka then run up a huge hill after david. oh and everyone got to fondle some on3ppppps.

We were wondering if that New Years Eve thing is a definite? Are you going home for Christmas? We'll be in Silver Creek, NY for Christmas and it might make more sense to drive straight to your house instead of driving back to Boston then up to Jay.

Long story short, Danny wants me to create an environmental program for DIesel Direct. He's already got a great safety system in place he's created himself, but he really has no one managing or progressing it. He also wants to be able to "sell" how badass the company e&s is to customers. So I'd have to get all dressed up to go present to company big wigs around the country at times too. I like the idea. I'd definitely have to work a shitload harder than I have, which I know I can do. He already told me there would be no more leaving the house at 9:30 to go to work. Perks equal starting salary of what I make now with increase once things get rolling, I obviously get to keep my severance package from Baxter, an Iphone, and I'll need a new work laptop....guess who loves his Macs. If I work for the company I also get put on the insurance for all of the cars at our house, that includes the M6. =)

I put down about 20 good Scot Schmidt jump turns down that patch of awesomeness. The little tracks down the creek with rocks everywhere were mine as well.....

My parents are in town for next weekend, and the one after is a trip to the San Juan Islands. But November. Oh boy. I think Matty might be down for that too...

PH/ON3P Rainier Invasion November 1st. Needs to happen.

You're fucking kidding me right?!

Unless Baxter's got a nightly blowjob benefit program, this might be the best opportunity you'll ever run into. Your title @ a company means more to your career progression than the work you do.

Snow, rain, sleet, hail, I'll be leaving the night of the 25th if I go home. I'm the fucking mailman. Come to casa de adam, where the vaporizer's always warm. I'll need some suby room for the magic hat, rock art, and long trail kegs. That's right...someone will probably die.

You guys met Gunderson, my god, sooooo sick.

GG is as much of a skiing idol to me as Morrison or Plake; he absolutely KILLLLLLS it with a camera.

By the way, this page is so full of wicked big time sick PH news, it's incredible!! STOKED!

Oh, also stoked on a set of 76mm Pink BigZig wheels and bearings in the mail for my longboard! Looks like I might still get some shred in after all!

THE DEFENDING SUPER BOWL CHAMPION NEW YORK GIANTS ARE PLAYING ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL TONIGHT AGAINST THE CLEVELAND BROWNS!

SUCK IT PATRIOTS FANS!

GO GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-MEN!

Sick Wheelz

I'm stoked I didn't bail tonight after running off my board after having a foot catch trying to foot break. It was seriously the fastest i've ever run, by the third step I was realizing I wasn't going to blow my knee out and not fall on my face

Haha yeah man, not dying while running out is always a good feeling.

I got the zigs in a 77a duro, should be super grippy for the garages around here. My old wheels which I melted were 70mm, so I'm hoping the bigger wheels turn out sweet on my board. Thankfully I bought a board that's shaped so wheelbite is impossible, so I'm really stoked to see how these things cruise around town too. They're just a little softer than the wheels I have now, so we'll see how pushing them goes. Stoked!

The ex just tried to call me 3 times. It was tough...but I did NOT answer. She also sent me some text messages/NS messages the other day about how she's over this new guy because it turns out he's not very cool and she'll never find anyone half as good as me. Didn't respond to any of them.

So I guess I'm stoked about my self-control there.

Rain/Snow mix is BACK in the forecast for Thursday night at higher elevations.

Enjoy today and tomorrow, it may be the last of Indian summer, and the beginning of the turn to ski season!!!

Burlington for the weekend for some ski movies, friends, NH state liquor store stock-up, leaf peeping, and my personal favorite...shopping =)

today/yesterday = stoke

my interview at the Venetian went very well. unfortunately, they have a hiring freeze right now due to how hard they're being hit in the stock market- their stock was trading around $144 a year ago and is now down around $15... ouch. BUT i was told that i would be contacted as soon as they were allowed to resume hiring and "we'll get that ball rolling." in other words, once they're permitted to hire people, i should have a job at the Venetian.

the weather's been a bit of a pain in the ass the past few days- clear skies, really sunny, kinda breezy, and in the 50s (cold... trust me, even coming from northern Michigan, i'd say it's been cold... i think the sun makes you think it's going to be warm, then you walk outside and you need to go back in and grab a hoodie... that's about as cold as it gets here), but today it's already 65 and it's just 10am. i think we're in for 80s for the next 4 or 5 days. more pool time!

Les surfaced from the dead, so i'm stoked about that, too.

New MacBooks are like mini MacBook Pros! Not so stoked on lack of a Matte Screen on the Actual Pros. And the bump in grahpics and HDD space on the Airs makes my 1st gen worth a bit less. Hmm, sell now and upgrade? Perhaps.

wha? i'm not allowed to be stoked? i haven't heard from you in over 72 hours... i was starting to cry for no reason and every day was so sad.

The only concern i have with the new macbooks is the durability of the aluminum case. Aluminum is a soft metal so im curious to see how the body will hold up to wear and tear over time (particularly on the edges).

The bump in tech specs is nice though.
