The Stoked Thread

I had my first pow turns of the season today. It was pretty deep in parts and a ton of fun. There's still a ton of snow left from the storm last week if you're willing to traverse a little bit. There were some cliffs too but I wasn't feeling quite ready to hit anything to gnar... It hasn't even been a week yet since I blew out the shoulder. Oh yeah, the JJs are a really sick ski and handle the pow. They're pretty good on groomers too, they hold up really well and can fucking charge. I can't butter or jib with them. Too heavy and stiff. Time for some beers.

Here's a shot:

I dont like where this is going, we better get back to the topic 'in hand'. Ahahaha....

I'm going to see GRAAAAAAAVEDIGGGGERRRR on SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY at the TACOMA DOME cause seats are JUST TEN BUCKS.

And afterwards... I think I'll head to Portland to see Saaaaaaraaaah. You better have cool stuff planned, and keep that dog off the cheese that night!

Dine out vancouver over the next two weeks. I have my reservations, now I just need to fill the seat across from me! Shouldn't be too hard. These are the restaurants I'll be eating at.

Savory Coast (Seafood) - www.savorycoast.ca/

Caffe De Medici (Italian) - www.caffedemedici.com/

Maurya (Indian) - www.mauryaindiancuisine.com/

COAST (West Coast) - www.coastrestaurant.ca/

Chambar (Belgian) - www.chambar.com/

Mistral (French) - www.mistralbistro.ca/

Dine out vancouver makes my life. 6 world class meals, costing me about 200 bucks TOTAL. Maybe a little more if I pay double for some depending on who I go out with. Still, fuckin' A.

JD, at the french place, get this :

Wild Spring Salmon marinated with soja, honey and star anise, oven

roasted, served with white and green asparagus, Gratin Dauphinois and

lemon beurre blanc

I don't think it's on the DOV menu. All of these places have a prix fixe with the choice of usually 3 appys, 3 entrees and 2 desserts. Usually they're chef's choice, whatever they think best represents the restaurant (so that they can get you coming back when it's 75-100 a meal instead of 35). Also I rarely order a fish entree at a French restaurant. I'll save that for the Seafood and West Coast places.

Super stoked that it's finally puking down here in southeastern PA. We got about an inch already and it only started over an hour ago. I know this isn't a lot at all, but shit down below the poconos you gotta take what you can f-in get. Also scattered snow showers throughout the weekend and next week.

Whaaaaat, I want to go see Gravedigger!!!! That sounds fun, dude. They always have cool shit like that at the Tacoma Dome. And you had better come out here on Sunday!! We'll get wasted off of good beer and act like ninjas. What time does the thing in Tacoma end? You're not going to be here until LATE, Rowen! :( I can't plan THAT much stuff if you get here super late, unless you're talking about for Monday. And no cheese for Bubba Jay.

I am extremely envious of you right now. Don't expect it to happen again until there is a Dr. in front of your name.

I was going to come up this weekend, actually... still might if I leave after biology lab tomorrow morning and then get back here Sunday afternoon.

I get to be with my boyfriend in two months and three days!!!!!!! He is the best ever. Andddddd I hopefully get to see Rowen this weekend, which would be the shit!

The monster truck show is at 1, so we'll be there (if we go, we're negotiating a hot tub for our hotel) at like 8ish or 9.

got me a brand spankin new PS3 today! came with motor storm and im stopin off at future shop tonite to grab call of duty 4 and tony hawks proving ground!! pretty damn stoked here!!

whoa dude how the hell do you get so much back? i think the most ive ever gottenfrom the feds was about $400 and $7 from the state

Wow, for being single, you sure get a lot back. I didn't start getting that until I was married with kids. Interesting.

My current line of work is performance bonus orientated.

To put things in perspective, my monthly performance bonus for the month of December, which I recieved today was..

Pre-Tax - $1950

Post-Tax - $1170

Performance bonuses are taxed at around 42% up front, so I see 58% of the gross pay. It works out in the end with a nice return, and keeps people from getting themselves into trouble with owing massive amounts.

I have a credit card that is siting at around $1300, and I intend on paying it off completely next week when the return hits my account.

And treating myself to a used pair of Rossi Scratch BCs.

:P

Jimmy is staying at his parents' for the weekend! WOO!

Hopefully, Rowen is coming down on Sunday. Still not sure yetttt.

I'm booked all day with private lessons. 3 of them being requests, which rawks!!! Ashley's going to have a good day, and a good pay check. (maybe a snowboard/boots/or bindings will be in the works!)

Skiing is fun. I ski everyday at Laax! I'm drinking a Calanda brau right now after skiing rails this afternoon. It was foggy today, but I had a lot of fun. Skiing is rad!

12-22" forecasted at my hill thru tomorrow evening.

Super light blower powder too.

I love lake effect.

Today at work I had some lessons with this family who has been coming to me for 4 years. I started with their son when he was 6. And now I have their daughter (who actually started last year) who's 7. They only come a few times a season, but they're incredible. I've become pretty close with them, and they always show their generosity. But today, they gave me a special gift. Which were some skis and boots (used, they were the daughters) for Hailey to have. Plus, a bunch of pairs of snowpants. They have given me winter gear in the past for the kids, but this was sooooooo nice and touching. I love them. And not to mention me and Isabelle have matching personalities. It's great!

Skied my skis-to-be today.

185cm '05-'06 Rossignol BC's with Rossignol Power 140 binders.

INCREDIBLE ski. Stiff, and powerful. They made me feel like a complete hero in the chopped up 6-8 inches that there was. Poached some closed runs with a foot on them, and they were incredible.

They will make a PERFECT EC all mountain ski.

Just need to wait until early february before I can buy them off the guy.

^ Luck!

Stoked that I walked away with $90 in tips today. And $65 from yesterday, and there's still tomorrow. Woo!

congrats dude, although i gotta give little jon props, cause his edit was sick but i voted for ya mang, good luck you still got another 24 hours to go

Yesterday was a sick day at Dodge Ridge. I finally skied some decent boxes, multiple hits... stoooked. Slid my first C-box, got confident with rails in general, got some steeze in too...

Not bad man!

I know where you're at. I just started sliding really last year, at 21 years young. I've been in the park for a long time, but never got into sliding.

Thats a sick sweater broski

i wanna ride park with you some day...i think you'd be a blast to rip some laps with!

Stoked that I got to ride this weekend even if it was shotty Elk Mtn. PA. Not much natural snow but at least it was a day out. What is with resorts and not allowing backpacks???? Anywho.

So I am also stoked that I got to see some of the funniest shit I have seen on a ski slope in a long time. I'm not usually one to laugh at others misfortune but if your asking for it then your fair game.

We were on a moderately steep run at Elk and rounded a corner to see about 5 teens on snowboards dicking around by sitting on their boards like a sled. Well their all goofing and having fun till one falls off and his board gets out in front of him. This kid jumps up and starts chasing his board only to watch it start pulling away. This is all happening as I'm just passing the kid, I see his board getting away so I thought I'd goof off too and ski close to his board or maybe stop it for him. So I blow past him and start tucking and hauling some ass, well I'll be damned but I can't even gain on the thing and now it's pulling away from me and still cruising downhill. I cut off to hit a jump on the side we were playing with and then slam on the brakes to watch the rest of the show. Now I'm stopped and the board is still kickin up dust and hauling ass about 50 - 100 yards downhill from me, junior is running balls out as fast as he can downhill and passes me. Just as I'm thinking "man that kid can really run, he's gotta be getting tired." the little fella eats shit and faceplants right in the middle of the trail. This kids board bounced about and made a gradual turn and stayed on the trail continueing downhill at breakneck speeds, last I saw of the thing it was still cooking and rounding another turn waaaayyy downhill. The kid got up and pressed on but you could tell he had no clue where it went and wanted to just give up on running. For the next couple hours everytime we ended back up on that trail we could see this kid looking in the woods and sides of the trails for his runaway board. I thought it was hilarious and really quite dangerous so the kid kinda deserved to lose his board IMO. Don't know if he ever found it or not, but it was quite a tremendous show for me at the time.

Not allowing packs? I've never had an issue anywhere I ride, but I can see their opposition to it. I've seen kids skiing with bootbag sized packs making sitting on the chair extremely awkward.

I HATE seeing kids sliding on their boards like that because it is dangerous as hell when they take off. Seen many cases of boards barreling down the hill. They almost always manage to follow runs and seen so many near misses, as well as less lucky people. I've had a snowboard small into the side of a toboggan at my accident site barely missing me and my patient. As well as taking chunks out of a tree and another exploring when it hit the brick wall of the lodge. Snowblades are no better. I refuse to help look for boards and blades in the woods, not my job to help you for being stupid.

Regular old north face backpack. Shame on me for wanting an extra shirt, water bottle, first aid kit, and some munchies. I know some people take it too far or get stuck on the lift sometimes but to BAN backpacks, give me a break. Best part was as I'm shooting the dude extremely unsatisfied looks, he gives me "We had a kid get stuck on a lift one time so, You know lawyers and Insurance and all that." God I wanna leave my pussy ass home-state of PA and never look back.

Stoked I found out about an avy course being offered in the east a few weeks before my trip so aswel as being easier to schedule into my crazy sched, it means we have 2 more ski days and more travel freedom over when we were going to work it into the trip. Now the conditions won't be quite as good as the west, but the basics are the same and the course is accredited through the NSP so its still legit.

Stoked because I finally got a hold of Dynastar and have a set of P18 brakes headed my way. Oh yeaahhhhhhh. Might as well schedule my next surgery now!

I'm stoked that our little hill is getting huge rave reviews from visiting park rats and that my son and his friend wrote thier first NS park update on the home page.
