The Stoked Thread

Despite the fact that the trails are ruined, it was a great day. The thunderstorms totally missed us and it was cloudless sunny skies all day. My friend Oliver was back from Colorado, and we did a shitload of riding. And even though he had been in CO the day before, he was having the time of his life back here. He's a lot of fun to be around, so a nice relief of stress for me. Most of the trails were like mashed potatoes, which was better than the rock hard groomers tracks on others. And I got yet another comment on my riding, which is always a good boost of the ego.

Some of my pictures might get published in an outdoor periodical here in Bozeman, so I'm basically on the road to stardom. But seriously, I'm stoked!

Also, I took the new park guy Eric up to the Owl's Nest (restaurant/hotel) to show him the view of Belleayre from there (and to shhhhhmoookkeee hehe - Lesley remind me to show you!). This view (in person) is pretty awesome, no other like it around. (Keep in mind I realize I ride at a dinky mountain).

So I mentioned to him that it's for sale, and has been for a little bit now. It just doesn't make any money, even for the spot it is in. Now he has been talking with his friends for a long time about opening up a bar. Something this area lacks in. My friend Georgia has always wanted to open up a shop. Don't know if it's a long shot, but they were very cautiously talking about collaborating. A partnership. He wants to set it up so you can tune your equipment, have a beer, and chill all at the same time. Wants to set up a rope tow area with jibs and what not...while the other half can be a dope retail shop, which can also sponsor the mountains freestyle events. I have no experience, or any idea if this is doable. He told me if it was less than 2 mil he would do it. I found out it's $775,000. Soooooo I don't know what to tell him. But I'm stoked on the idea and would definitely give any input I have for it. A really chill spot for locals would be key around here.

Holy crap, fun day today, wednesday must be like senior day at the pass, I was getting all kinds of cheers from the lift when I was messing around. Started off on the libs, but had to move back to the Madens once I realized how much snow was out there. AND, only two runs with poles. They're starting to feel weird.

Haha, and I stole some Pep steeze and did a hands in pockets run down a chairline, hehe.

But in bad news, I killed about 20 little birds today. I thought they would move off the highway... they didnt. I feel like a mass murderer.

Bahaha! I remember coming home on the road behind my house doing about 50mph as I came up to a large flock of birds on the road. I thought they would fly, too.....I was wrong. It was like driving through a hailstorm, with a black, feathery rain in the rearview mirror. Try as I might to keep my cool, I nearly killed myself laughing. When I got home I counted no less than 17 different impact marks on my windshield alone....then I drove back to the carnage later for more laughs.

Maybe it's just growing up in Montana, but I find some kind of callous hilarity in hitting birds and gophers in the car.

aha two stories about this

1. i was doing like 90 mph on the highway, so i'm passing a dude on the left, and a rabbit jumps out on the road in front of me, so person on my right, can't swerve, shouldn't swerve at this speed anyway, sorry mr. rabbit but i value my life more than yours, so i hit him mid hop, he flies up above my hood and over my windshield, i die laughing, my ex girl who was in the passanger seat at the time looks at me horrified...then proceeds to bust out laughing

2. driving down a road, pigeon in middle of road, thought it would move, it didn't feathers fly over my windshield, i proceed to laugh hysterically

A flock of chickens were on the road in front of me on my way home one day and most of em had run off the road by the time i got there except for one guy who thought the other side of the road looked better. Turns out he'll never know because i smoked him with the van and all I saw was a pile of feathers in the rear view mirror...almost has some dinner!

Yay got my new jacket today. woot woot! so steezy and soooooo big. hahaha im gonna look like a midget this weekend.

I 90 was closed much of the day due to avy blasting. Bad for BC, but tomorrow is a weekday, and I cant see much reason to have to dip out of bounds when its going to be as epic as it is right now up there. Something around 1.5-3 feet of snow today, cant wait to see what the 4pm snowfall total is...

* CASCADE PASSES, INCLUDING STEVENS, SNOQUALMIE AND WHITE

PASSES-

Periods of moderate to heavy rain or snow Thursday

afternoon and evening, slightly increasing overnight with

further heavy snow accumulations likely, especially above

about 3500 feet. Moderate to heavy showers gradually

decreasing Friday morning and becoming mostly light to

moderate snow showers late Friday morning. Light snow

showers mostly ending Friday afternoon with partial

clearing. Increasing clouds Friday night with light snow

redeveloping overnight. Light to moderate snow increasing

early Saturday.

So, in other words, FUCKING POW TOMORROW.

Also, apparently, I can do shots again. I just had 5 shots of Tanqueray in an hour. Wow, hard A is a fucking blast. I forgot how lazy beer makes you.

I have a great lab partner for chem. The only thing I don't like about my chem lab is that it's a night class, and I was trying to avoid those this term. Anyway, this guy was in my chem lecture last term, and he's smart and gets shit done. When we had to do group work last term, he and I worked together a lot so we could get it done fast and leave early. So yeah, good shit considering my lab partner last term was the biggest fucking moron ever (his name was Phuc).

This is going to sound so nerdy, but it's NS so nobody should care. Anyway, I was playing Halo 3 on Live (I've only played for about a month, cumulative, but I've gotten pretty damn decent considering I haven't played a video game since Mario Kart came out on N64) and this guy from Australia was on my team at one point. Turns out he knows all of the places I visited when I went down there almost seven years ago, so it was just kind of cool talking with someone from the other side of the globe. Oh yeah, and we're both 21-year-olds playing with a team of 10 to 12-year-olds. It was pretty funny. Everyone thinks I'm a little boy on there instead of a chick, haha.

OH YEAH, and Jimmy's staying the night at his parents' house tonight, so I GET THE BED!!!!!

I like all of my professors this term... so that's good, too. I just found out that if I go to OSU next year for their marine biology program, I'll get some really good scholarships, which I need. Shitty part is, I REALLY don't want to go there anymore. Can't really explain it, but I really really don't want to go. Ack.

Awesome about the lab partner, but why the hell didn't you get the bed?

When me and my ex were splitting up, I totally got the bed until I moved out. I suppose he slept on the couch 80% of the time anyway....but still....

I'm stoked that I got to see Jackson Hole with the best conditions in years. Stoked that at my age I can still get around and down the hill. Stoked that I could hear people cheering at me from the lift.

Even the Snow King Hotel and Resort at Jackson was fun and steep.

This might be a repeated picture... who cares? :)

Pretty much my day too, except I skied alone since everyone had something called 'class'. Pillows up the ass out here, sooooo much snow. Really wet heavy cascade crud, but man, soooo fun. Straightlined two sketchy ass chutes I've been eyeing all year, dropped Tye Rock (infamous rock under a chair with a terrible landing) and actually found that with speed, its not so bad. Also turned a measly 30' into a 50'. Also nailed some 1's into perhaps the heaviest pow ever off a 5'er, felt good to ride away switch from something that nasty.

Also, just went to a kegger for a few minutes at my old house. I helped a bunch of sorority girls get the house by putting a good word in for them, so I kinda get special treatment I guess. Gave the birthday girl a bottle of homebrew and took off, but apparently I have mail there, soooo... another excuse to go see some ridiculously hot girls?

The road was finally white again this morning on my drive into work this morning.

I actually drove into a period of heavier snow for a short bit, and yelled "FUCK YEA!" to myself in the car.

Good damn morning.

Oh man, my hill is saying they will be open tomorrow, but that we should check the Snow Phone before heading out.

So unexpected.

My hill ended up opening today. 2 trails. Got boring pretty quickly.

Last run I bailed switch HARD, and got a killer charlie horse on my asscheek.

pretty stoked on my 80% average in first term considering the amount of weed i smoked was rather...large. My previous best term grade in university was 72% though...lol.

^ Yeah it's on the way for me. I've heard 3-6 as well. Getting some coverage out there would be real nice. We lost about half our trails.

Yeah, same here. Not nearly starting from scratch, but it was rough this morning. Thin ribbons of snow basically.

Frigid airmass later this week too, which should help restart things and get going again with the season.

Got another session done on the shark! Thought it was going to be the last one, but my artist/friend and I keep changing how we want to go with it. We initially didn't want an outline, but we added one yesterday, and it improved it a lot. I just need one more session to finish up shading in the blues and white and then to get that golden eye in there, and I'm done!!!!

He's an asshole who refuses to either sleep on the couch or bring over his bed from his parents' house, and since I refuse to sleep with him, I get the couch.

BUTTTTT I forgot more good news! I got to see some good friends in Newport while I was out there for my tat session, AND today, I met up with an old friend from Alaska who just moved down here. He's owned motorcycles forever, and I used to go on rides with him all of the time up in AK through the mountains and stuff. SO much fun. But yeah, haven't seen him since just before I moved to California from Alaska 3.5 years ago, and we went on a long ass motorcycle ride and then to this awesome Mexican place. It was SOOOOO much fun. I want a bike so bad.

Sam! You are awesome! And thank you... I'm stoked about it. I really just can't wait for it to be done.

I'm stoked that I went to the bar and got drunk while playing pool instead of doing Calc 2 homework, haha.

I just walked in to grab a beer from my room after going fucking skiing. I was out only two days. I think I'll go back out. I can't ski park yet, but in 2 or 3 days I guess I'll start hitting baby jibs.

Last run of the day was the best of the day. I got knee deep just off the gondola plus a jib on a small a-frame shack. Rock and roll off of the top of the shack and then 180'd out. I found a spot with knee deep by mistake, and had to hike out. It is amazing how long the snow lasts here. There are never really any liftlines and you can ride pow for days and days after a storm. This is the hot ish.
