The Stoked Thread

I enjoy skiing, but I never skiied like people on this site do. I used to go once or twice a season on Rossi Rentals. I'm on this site because Matt Harvey was one of my best friends in college. We used to go skiing quite often in those days, but I haven't really gone since he went to CO. He did leave me his old 1080's though (with bindngs, boots, poles and even goggles).

yes that's true but women also like em "dangerous" haha

it seems that the more in shambles a man's life is, the more women her gets, which sucks cause my life is pretty well put together, but i don't have any issues getting the broads

New pack time: ANARCHY!!!!

I won't be utilizing it much sitting on my couch, but hopefully I'll be able to get out more this year!

fill the hydration part with rum while your on the couch...wouldn't want to hurt your knee running to the fridge :P

That's my avalung so I can sound like Darth Vader. I'm contemplating getting a bladder for the other sleeve, but I think it would just freeze up all the time.

I dont ski big mtn so I'm not aware of all the safety shit, but i take it the avalung is some sort of breathing apperatus you use if you get sucked under?

If you're stuck under the snow you die because you inhale too much CO2, not because there isn't air. With an avalung, I just exhale into the hose and can chill out in the debris a lot longer while my partners take their sweet time digging--that is, unless I got destroyed by trees or rocks while I was on the ride. It's not a guaranteed safety measure by any standards, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have the possibility of being much better off.

What ever happened to those backpacks with the inflating pillow things on the side...they still illegal here?

It runs through to a vent on the bottom right of the pack--so it's basically just a big tube running through the pack. It just makes it so I can exhale away from my breathing area.

Yeah since snow is actually mostly air, you breathe in normally, and then exhale threw the tube which runs the CO2 around you and out the back of your pack. You go from having 10 minutes of being conscious to having about 40

I made big brakes this afternoon, they look hawt. Except the other one, that guy cracked just before I got it totally straight (as in ~5 degrees). Not sure if it'll go down enough considering they sit flat and I added around 22mm on each side. I'm trying JB weld right now because Rossignol won't pick up their phones...bastards.

think about when you open a new bag of chips. all the big ones are at the top, and the crushed little crumbs are at the bottom. that's because bigger things have a tendency to float to the top.

those air bags are made to increase your surface area, making you float more to the top of the snowpack. not only does this mean that your buddies have less snow to dig off of you, but often there is a piece of bright orange airbag sticking up, making you WAY easier to find. These things are actually proven to work too. The only problem: it makes your backpack weigh a lot more.

I just would be so freaked out to be in a life-threatening slide that I know I'd forget to activate it. I should get an Avalung tho, its a sweet lifesaver.

Also, my calves didnt hurt as bad today! Massage and jogging has helped them work themselves out. I really cant help wondering if I'm giving myself a stress fracture tho...

And I talked to OATES today! Always nice, so sorry I couldnt see you at the airport, there was just way too much blower pow. You understand, right Sarah?

i have not been on here for a long time man..

anyways im stoked that im going to skip the second week of school in jan and go to switzerland for a week. my friend and i are going to meet another friend and his gf in switzerland and we will make a snow cave and stay in there the whole week i think. should be FUN.

oh and since im pats fan, they WON!!! but needless to say it was a really good game.

also...we are getting DUMPED - look in not stoked thread for more details.

cape town, south africa. I might have a new favourite sport. or at least a sport to fill my summers with. good thing I live in a city 1000 km from the ocean. booooo!

Hahah of course I understand! I blew off seeing a lot of people in AK so that I could ride pow... and I still don't feel bad about it. Eh.

Seriously, though, that four-hour layover in Seattle was so insanely long. I've had layovers far longer than that, but the Seattle one probably seemed longer because I hadn't slept in close to 72 hours, haha.

Damn, I REALLY want to go back to Alaska right NOW! I miss it so much already.

Sandpeople and Wu Tang on New Years Eve!

I think I started liking mountain biking more than skiing this summer. Or at least resort skiing. Backcountry skiing will always be rad.

Stoked that I got the day off tomorrow before putting in a super long New Years shift at the restaurant. I'm going to play with my kids all day. Sweet! Poor things, having mommy working so much. I'm thinking of taking them to Belleayre to play.

stoked for tomorrow night! pickin up a bunch of greenery, champagne, beerz, and getting slightly intoxicated. i think some blunts are in order...

Just sat at work blowing up hundreds of balloon s becyase the helium tank was empry. All while drinking. Woo! I am lightheaded and slightly buzzes.

It is DUMPING outside. Snow...and I don't get to ride tomorrow. DDDAAMMMNNNIIIIIIITTTTTTTT.

Stoked to be moved into the new place and got a dusting the first night there. Also the proud new caretaker of one hearty Maine Coon Cat, he rules and his name is Jinx. Now I gotta go cut wood after work today. I'll put some pics up soon.

thats sweet dude.

and a maine coon? they are absolutely the best. i have one of them and he is the gnarliest little beast ever. he was sick a while ago and diagnosed with feline leukemia but seems as though hes making quite the recovery...we shall see though. dont want to get my hopes up. lately hes eating like a 400 lb fat man and his latest thing is licking the concrete outside on the porch. not so sure what thats all about but whatev...as long as he's kickin, all is good.

It is a step up from what I was livin in, but no this place wouldn't be ideal for a party. The cabin we have upstate would be the ideal spot for a NS PA Party. Our Vaca./Hunting cabin sleeps about twenty, has a deck, is just south of the NY border near Towanda and has a fantastic hill for all kinds of setups. Check it:

And Rebel by loft I mean whatever the hell we can get away with up there.

That seems like a new years project, but honestly we used to own a four footer and that was more than enough. I gotta think of something cool to do from up there though. Alright I'm out to collect firewood. Happy New Years Everyone.

ok ok i know that was a bit over the top.....how about a giant beer funnel? come on! you know you want to

Apparently I'm putting out a pretty good vibe right now because I had 3 girls manage to hand me their phone numbers totally unsolicited last night, all 8s, if you use that scale (I typically don't). I think it must be the school break and the lack of stress showing through because that doesn't really happen. Either that or everyone just gets really slutty around new years. One of them even put her number under her ID when I asked for it... nice move. Another highlight was the line "I think I know you. Didn't we have an affair one time?"

Sometimes I find it funny that I get paid for what I do.

Stoked that Chuckie (a kid from the mountain) hooked me up with a pair of bindings. Granted they're Burton, but still! I tried to give him some cash and he said, "No, we're cool like that." I love these Belleayre boys. Sick riders and skiers, & nice as hell.
