The Stoked Thread

Me too!!!!
And I just got back from a pep rally / video shoot thing. A bunch of no shave Beaver fans (the sports team, not the other bearded beavers) and some cheerleaders gave some College Game Day video guys some nice TV spot material for the Civil War game this saturday. I really hope I make it on TV
I was high as balls too

After 5 weeks of not having my car, I picked it up today!...with a U-haul car trailer....

Anyways, at least it was running, it's at Honda now for some tuning until tommorow afternoon, then I can finally DRIVE around again. I'll appreciate having a car all over again.

Public transit gave me one last fat shaft in the ass today when the bus I was on ran out of gas...in the middle of an intersection...lol.

Agreed. It was sick though to out of the blue (I feel) see him throwing those spins off of cliffs.

How did that go for ya???? What did ya tow it with????

I'll be getting a truck in the next few days and I think that is what I'm gonna use to tow my suby to a local shop. I have no experience with the uhaul car trailer and was wondering how easy it would be.

I got an invite to a dinner "meeting" last night. Normally I dont go to these things but somehow I got an invite and decided to go. Glad I did. Dinner was this kick ass swordfish with olives and some tom sauce. Hmmmm. Oh and open bar. JEA! Im hurting today though

Stoked! Just picked up a sweet pair of gore tex boots for 60% off on steepandcheap, to replace the pair I blew up 2 years ago......

No more booting it to and from the hill in soggy ass skate shoes! Vibram soles FTW!

I am SO stoked Harper has proposed to cut the public subsidy to political parties in Canada. Yes, it's mean, and I love every minute of it. 6 years ago the Liberal Party banned corporate donations to political parties, and instead had the government give $1.95 per vote to the political parties. It was a great move, big money has no place in influencing politics, but having the taxpayer pay for it instead isn't very good either. The Bloc, the separatist party from Quebec was now receiving federal money to further their cause of leaving the country. Does that sound right? Of course not.

Since then, the Conservatives have rallied the individual voter to donate to them (maximum $5000). They have done very well with this and the Liberals, mainly as a result of removing their own corporate donations, have done terribly. The NDP has better fundraising. Unfortunately for the opposition parties, none of them are very good at fundraising, and all of them are in debt. Tories, even when you take away 1/3 of their funding (they get hurt the most) are still in the black because they know how to motivate people to donate to them.

Hopefully this means the Bloc will disappear. The Green party will probably die too, and that is fine by me. This is going to be a confidence motion most likely, and I bet it will pass. Nobody can afford another election (except the Tories) and with the credit crisis going on right now, no bank will loan an already in debt political party more money. I fucking love it.

Now, this could backfire for the Tories in the long run, in the form of a united left party. This isn't good for the Tories (or my own personal views) but it is probably better for democracy in this country. The Liberal, NDP, and Green parties all have such similar views, it's as if there are 3 representatives from the same party at the table when you watch a leaders debate.

Bottom line is it is wrong for both companies and taxpayers to fund PRIVATE institutions, which political parties are. If you feel so strongly for your party, volunteer your time and donate your dollars. I do.

Oh and I'm not really expecting much response about this (although I'm sure JD will disagree with me) but I wanted to vent. Happy Day!

spent the whole day in front of the television at my parents' house.

had to explain rick-rolling to them.

anyone else catch weezy in the lebron babypowder nike commercial?

More like the tories have more rich people supporting them who are able to donate $5k or 2k or 1k or whatever without a problem because it's pocket change to them. A few of us from UBC had a sit down with Ignatieff when he was here to talk about the problem, and he's really in favour of making the liberal party a pay-for-membership party with annual dues of 50 bucks or something like that. I just said that would narrow the base further. What they need is someone to lead them who's able to make the country care about its politics again to the point where they're willing to put their money where their mouth is, and an internet setup that builds on what Dion had in the last election (one of the few areas where his camapign soundly beat the other parties). I'll donate to the liberal party if Michael runs it and I'll encourage others to do likewise.

hmmm...im not sure where to start here but I can definately assure you I don't agree with most of what you say.

The Bloc, the separatist party from Quebec was now receiving federal money to further their cause of leaving the country. Does that sound right? Of course not.

Yes it sound right to me. Why should we be denying them federal funding on the basis of their views? Can anyone spell 'free speech'? If THAT many people hate being a part of canada THAT much, I say let them leave. Forcing them to stay only makes them feel like prisoners in their own country.

Instead of bitching about the funding the bloc should or shouldn't be getting, maybe the media should focus more on the actual issue at hand; seperation. Most sensible people that look at the propsed method of 'seperation' that the Bloc put forward realize how ridiculous their proposal actually is. Maybe we should be spending our time focusing on that. I dont support their idea of seperation but i dont think that cutting the federal funding is the best way to deal with the situation.

I'd love to get more into this, but i have a feminist geography paper to write on women in canadian politics...lol...too much politcal shit in my head.

drew you're quite the page pro

stoke for sprint wireless broadband card that allows me access (albeit slow) to the internet without having to pay the Marriott $20 a day.

I know the west coasters will laugh at what i consider sweet vertical here, but this has been my backdrop out the library window for the last couple days...its fucking mint compared to last week :P

All I'm noticing is what appears to be some pretty sweet architecture. It's funny how I am going to school for architecture in a town where there isn't a single building that doesn't make me cringe.

Yeah the whole campus design was a big architectural hard on in the 70's i've heard....all the buildings here have won awards and shit but considering how easy they give those awards out *cough*pruittigoe*cough* it doesnt really mean much.

Sweet to look at though.

Actually JD, I was mistaken. When the Liberals eliminated the option of corporate funding for political parties, they set the individual donation limit at $5000, and the Tories subsequently lowered it to $1000. Also, the average donation to the Tories was just over $100, actually lower than the average donation to the Liberals, the Liberals just had that many fewer people donating. And ya, I agree that making membership in the party a $50 (or whatever number) fee is a bad idea. I think I would definitely decrease the support base.

And Ryno, I have no problem with the Bloc existing, they can have whatever views they want. But I just don't think it's right for the Federal government to financially support (especially to the tune of 86% of the budget) a party that's sole purpose is to look out for one province in the nation, and more than that, wants the province to secede. If the province of Quebec wants to fund the Bloc with their own money, that's a different story. I'd rather see my federal taxpayer funds go the the communist party, as misguided as I think they are, at least they views relate to the entire country.

Also, I may have jumped the gun on the being-stokedness. It looks like the opposition has really called Harper's bluff. He has to back down or make some kind of concession. We CANNOT have another $300 million election over such a paltry sum of $30 million. Perhaps start by cutting the public subsidy in half or something. I still disagree with the whole idea, but this was definitely not the right time to do it. Even some of the right-wing hawks on the National Post editorial board say that.

Stoked on an amazing opening day. And there was snow! So much that the hu-fucking-mungous crowd that showed up didn't stay on the two open trails, and poached the whole mountain. Ski patrol coudldn't do anything. It was hilarious. Powpow! (Well, EC pow, haha)

Thanksgiving was so awesome, great to see my family.

For the record, no other state can measure up to Montana, and will never be as dear to my heart. I don't want to go back to school.

My back is starting to feel a bit better after throwing it out earlier in the week in a ninja-cat like recovery after slipping down some stairs. I didn't kill myself, but the back paid.

still hurts but heat and rest are definitely helping. now if I can only go skiing next week...but that is probably a bad idea...

im back!!! and it;s absolutely puking snow here (by colorado standards) the railing was bare when a left monday and now has almost a foot on it

Just jibbed a rail for about 2 hours, and I got a bunch of unnatural stuff that I hadn't done before. We also didn't get kicked out, which was absolutely amazing. My Blue Steeles are still the best skis I've ever jibbed on.

And I got my pass picture to have me cross eyed on it. Stoked.

i got to make some money today, ski some more, and tonight i'm hanging out with a chick that i ski with and hopefully things will go right and i'll get a little something something.

first day on blackcomb!!

it was kinda raining, but it was fun anyways. I did nollies onto a down rail, lipslide on a down rail, and some other stuff I haven't really done before...stoked

Yay skiing! Actually did both Whistler and Blackcomb today. lol. Blackcomb was better. The explosives were wicked, snow was heavy but still fun. Good workout for the out of shape legs. Everything was going great.....until literally one of the LAST turns on the way back to the gondola. Two massive coreshots right at the edge. FUCK. Didn't have time to repair them tonight so I'll be on the pistols tomorrow. Fingers crossed for better luck, probably won't treat them with such disregard. All in all a good first day though

New work is fun, it pays. Which is real nice.

The friends I've made there are a welcome breath of fresh air too. Everyones a bit more wild (and they smoke hella) and thats kinda what I've been needing recently. The smoking buddies and craziness.

Anyways, working a lot of till close shifts, but I'm slowly dragging myself out of my self induced debt. Car to pay off, pass to pay off, and rent and bills due every month... might take a while. Especially if gas to go to the pass keeps digging into my wallet. But generally, things are good. I ever have a moment or two to check in on everyone.

Anyways, I'm busy a lot now... and obviously, I cant be on NS as much. Which sucks. So yeah, I still miss you guys, and you'll hear from me once and a while, I promise. I'ma gonna go cruise the boards now for a bit, its been way too long.

It wouldn't necessarily even mean another election. There could be a coalition government. I'm sure it'd be dysfunctional, but it's possible. I agree that he's probably better off backing down before this gets away from him, though.

Forecast changed for the better.

Yesterday it was 2-5 inches of sleet, then all rain.

Now it's 3-5 of sleet and then just snow.

I need some new smoke buddies too...too bad there aren't smoke bars here to go and chill at :P

I'll be "dropping" the documentary on Thursday (maybe Wednesday night for a certain NS cult)
I'm happy with how its shaping up. Can't wait for you guys to see it!
Look out for it on the front page video player and maybe a special blog entry as well.
Thanks for all your input!
