I'm looking for a website where I can open an account, deposit money, and trade stocks on the TSX, etc. This is probobly the wrong website to ask this but I just want to start out small and play around for a bit on the market and online seems really easy. If anyone could let me know a couple sites that would be a great help. Thanks.

that made me laugh so hard. it sounded like a serious answer then out of no where... ahahhahaa, it's too late for this.

Are you looking for a portfolio for actual stocks or a simulation? If you're looking for a simulation, try www.marketwatch.com but if you want to have a portfolio in which your stocks are organized, www.morningstar.com or use Quicken. I use quicken to watch stocks and to keep track of my mutual fund's progress and it works wonderfully.

I read it again and you seem to want to invest for real. If you are asking for advice on where to buy stocks, you probably haven't done much research on investing in the market to begin with (not a problem!). I'd suggest checking these sites out. They'll answer your questions on where to buy stocks, how to buy single stocks (DRIPS), how to organize your portfolio, etc.

http://www.morningstar.com/Cover/Stocks.html?pgid=hetabstocks

-bottom right hand corner at the bottom of the blue box, click LEARN and there are (after free registration) online tips, classes, workshops, etc on buying stocks, etc.

www.fool.com - the entire site will help you

http://invest-faq.com/cbc/stock-a-basics.html

http://www.directinvesting.com/

and go to the library and pick up the book "Greed is Good" by Jonathan Hoening (last name might be spelled wrong).

If you have an online account with one of the big 5 banks, go through that. If you are doing it on a small scale its one of the easiest ways to do things. Especially starting out.

Sick. Yea I'll look into a bit of leaning but right now I just want to play around a little bit. And yes I was just looking for a site where I can actually trade on it. Like instant stock buying and trading for real money.

Look into DRIPS (google it), which are single stocks sold directly from the companies. You're not going to have much luck finding many investment options with limited funds.

Open an account with the Bank of Montreal. They have an amazing setup for trading stocks online. It was voted #1 in the country and its so easy to use.

^ Just checked it out. It says I need to make 30+ trades a qurater (10 a month), at $10 commission per trade. I'd have to be pulling in some serious dough for that to work out but I'm going to look into it anyway. Thanks, thats actually a good site. Anyone else know if other canadian banks have a program like this?

if you're going for stuff not on american exchanges (TSX) checkout interactivebrokers.com .. most everything can be traded there
