THE SPATULA

anyone actually seen the new Volant Machette McConky design SPATULA??? I've seen pics, and that's it...in case anyone's wondering, it's the ultimate pow ski...reverse sidecut, insanely fat, but it'll kill you on hard pack..the dimensions are something like 130 tip, 115 waist, and 90 tail....the tail sinks, tip floats and if you have anything other than pow, you're screwed!!!

Scott Gaffney once said that you could probably pull off on-snow 360s going about 30 MPH on powder.

Those are HUGE. What a crazy design, has anyone tried them?

there is only like 3 pairs that have been made so far. those things would be sick in powder though. scott gaffney talked about them on the powder site and said they kicked some serious ass, and that they would change powder skiing forever. i really really want to try a pair.

yeah it is a negative sidecut

any fate questions or orders, let me know.

yup...reverse side cut...moved up...the tip is biggest, then the waist then the tail...but the tail to waist difference is bigger than the tip to waist...so it does actually curve in

you dont carve on an edge in powder - you float. i saw a pair at the vegas show and talked to him about them. they look sick

yeah, reverse sidecut AND reverse camber (think surfboard) which is exactly the best design you could make for floating through snow. sure it would be stupid to cruise groomers with them, but how often does shane make laps doing picture perfect turns on blue square runs? seriously. oh, and we held them up on top of a pair of motherships, and the motherships are a teeny teeny bit wider at the tip and tail than the spatual is at it's widest part in the center of the ski, so in reality they aren't THAT big, it just looks like it because all the fatness is around the bindings.

*smack*

I heard that u were supposed to be able to land switch in pow pretty easy with those. Are they gonna be realease to the public, if not im just gonna try and build my own.

'powder before pussy'

the spatula is biggest at the tip...that's the whole point of reverse sidecut...tip floats tail sinks...and i agree with the reverse camber too

and if you take these anywhere other than heli skiing in AK you're retarded, although it would be fun to try to ski groomers and make an ass of yourself

ive never really wanted/needed to say anything before and this isnt the worst post made by you, but pocketrocket, you are a complete moron. everything you say is so stupid and not thought out one tiny bit. you have made all of us just a little bit more stupid by reading your idiotic posts.

PocketRocket- do you know what you are talking about? good god those are huge.

do they have metal edges? they probably do keep them more durable but you really wouldn't need them.

sorry, i got the measurements wrong...i didnt memorize it...and as for the post...no one objected until right at the end...i just wanted to know if anyone had heard about them, seen them riden them...what they're all about....and i'm sure i read somewhere about a ski that was biggest in the tip, maybe i mixed up the names, i appologize...can you people stop ripping everything i do???

Give him a break. I doubt hes putting any sort of effort towards being stupid. Why confront him like that, pretty immature. Why not just say something like 'a lot of the stuff you post is bs, think about your posts more dude.'

yea, give PocketRocket a break.....those look like some sick skis, and the negative sidecut is crazy.

Yeah, lay off the guy. He can't help it if he's retarded. Dude, how could 'reverse sidecut' mean widest at the tip? That's just like every other ski out there. Reverse sidecut means widest at the waist. Therefor, the sidecut is (get this) REVERSED!!! Next time you post, muster up all that brain power and make some sense, so I don't have to keep making fun of you. Best of luck.

i'll attempt to draw a little pic for you...it can be reversed sidecut with the tip widest....take a curve like this ( and use that as the edge of the ski...now make the tip right in the middle of that curve...let's see how this turns out...

something like that...i cant draw it here...but the sidecut can still be reversed, i thought anyone could see that, but whatever....take a pencil and draw a () shaped curve....then erase the top half...the shape is still reversed, but the top is still thickest

i may be wrong about the skis actual dimentions, but it can still be reversed the way i said

please do sketch it out, i still have a hard time picturing a reversed side cut...btw those spatulas are monsters!

ok...i'm sketching it and putting it under the 'drawings' or 'art' or whatever heading it is in the pics section...called spatula

reverse sidecut means that, instead of fat, skinny, fat, it goes skinny, fat, skinny, althogh that skinny is relativley fat compared to other skis

it doesnt have to be like that...as long as the curve of the edge bends inward...check out the drawing i put up....it's got a regular sidecut, and the two types or reverse sidecut

Shane McConkey is God! no one else would come up with such an innivative design. It really makes sense to make a pow ski shaped like a surf board. I heard that volant is only making crappy carving skis next year because the metal top just was not durable enough for freeriding, and it always bends. anyone have any idea? It was just a rumor.

But once again, Shane McConkey is GOD!

the stainless steel top sheet used to bend (like if you landed on a mogul it would bend down and your ski is toast) but they fixed that problem...their skis were pretty good last season, and should be good again this year

yeah i wanna go for a ski on these.

BUMP 1000 POST
Dear shane, thank you so much for doing your own thing. It is crazy to see what people thought of rocker just 7 years ago. nowadays you can find rocker on park skis. You always thought outside the box and we have you to thank for it. The spatula while crazy changed so many people perceptions about skiing. RIP
