The ski that got away

What is a pair of skis that you've had that got away? Maybe you have a great memory with them, maybe they don't make them anymore, maybe you still have them. What's the ski you look back on, and think, "man I could ski that ski my whole life."

I'll start it off. My ski that got away, but I still have, is the Revision subtractions. They may not be anyone's top ski, but I have incredible memories with them. They're a powder ski that is soft in the tips and tails, somewhat stiff underfoot, and pretty solid construction if I say so. They're predictable for me and are just perfect for me; a tall, lightweight skier who loves to butter. Unfortunately they're dying and this will probably be their last season after two edge cracks and some core shots. Other skis I love are the K2 shreditor 112's and an pair of SFB's.

I used to have a pair of ON3P Kartel 96/171s. Man I loved those skis, but they were disintegrating for so much use. All four edges were cracked, one whole length of the ski edge was gone on one, two core shots on the base and the topsheet was peeling like crazy. I had such good memories on those things, and they skied incredibly. I upgraded last season to a pair of 108/181 Kartels and I love them too, but every once and awhile I wish I could whip something a little lighter around. I still have the old Kartels, and I’m thinking I’m going to try and resurrect them. Patch the bases, wax em, sand the topsheet a little on the chipped edges, and drill in some replacement edges. A little ambitious, but worth a shot.

Had a pair of 2012 k2 recoils I loved to death. They were perfect for me. We were in love.

Jumped into a freezing cold pond at my local resort’s spring session. Kicked them off cause I thought I was going to drown it was so cold. They sunk.

Hopefully that’s what you mean by “got away.”

OP that's what burns the most for me about Revision. The Talisman was literally my perfect ski. Soft flex but still springy, cambered tail for stability and insane pop, rockered nose for soft snow and butters, 3/4 edge wrap in the last season, was available in lengths longer then 178cm, and durability that was at least on par with most other brands. All gone now, wouldn't be surprised if a couple pairs got destroyed just because of what Bill Wanrooy did.

I have a mismatched pair, 1 from the first season of production I got from a friend with a cracked core that gives it tail rocker, and 1 from a pair made in their last season I had to buy off skis.com after getting ripped off. Won't let go of those things for the life of me even if they are unrideable with how much edge is sticking and how warped the ptex is.

lmao jk writing this post made me nostalgic and I found a good condition pair on the internet out of the blue for $150. thanks op

NS would love Revision if they stayed around. The rail warranty thing was really dumb on their part.

Omg my white whale I eternally long for... In 2017 at the SIA On-Snow, I demoed a 100% metal ski from Volkl. Lightweight, paper thin, razor sharp, perfectly shaped, and never made available to the public. It was the lightest, most aggressive ski I've ever been on. Like nothing I've ever ridden. Like I was skiing on chef's knives. Some little factory project they pulled out the van when I asked about metal skis. I seriously orgasmed when I zipper lined those things down Too Much at Copper. It's insane they never went to production, cause that shit would've changed the game. I still kick myself for not trying to buy them with cash on the spot. Although I only rode them for an hour, I miss them more than any of my ex's.

There's no trace of them on the internet. Like they never even existed. WHY didn't I photograph them???!!!

I'll pull up with a drysuit and dive gear if you're within driving distance of me. Probably waterlogged and rusted tho

Dude yea me and my friends have thought about doing that for forever. The pond is deeper than you’d think but you could definitely find them down there. Thing is it was about 6 years ago or so now and they’re probably just beyond water logged lol

My all time favorite ski I’ve owned we’re the atomic infamous. It was a shame they stopped making them. I learned all my tricks on them, but I still have them. They’re too small now, so I got magnus 90s in my size. The infamous will live the rest of their life in the streets.

Im selling a pair of 181 pipe cleaners rn for cheap if ya want. pm me

thanks for the offer bro ! but i've kept a fresh pair for my collection/memories when i parted ways with the brand

the old 96 underfoot ON3P jeronimo are still my favorite ski i've ridden. i had the 2012s. indestructible, stable yet buttery, nimble enough to ski park all day, floaty enough for pow days. i put nearly 200 days on mine before i retired em. RIP

I spent all day looking for it, and I found it!

Turns out I had a 2018 Stockli Stormrider 88. Unghhh such good mogul skis.

I kinda think I should buy their new big mountain titanium ski...

I had a pair of 2014 SFB's that I ran into the ground by 2019. Epoxying cracks in the topsheets, blowing off another inch or two of edge every couple days, and i ended up pulling the tip right off trying to do one of those spinny nosegrab nosebutter things. Mounted them to the eaves of my dads chicken coop for the memories.

Just after my first run with my white whales!

?????????????????

Thanks for posting this thread OP or I wouldn't have been reunited with them!

The skis I did my first back flip on and skis I used for bullshitting high school ski trips. They are splintering, edges falling out, and have several craters in the bases. To you they are junk but to me they are priceless. Also I think the design is my favorite Line has ever made.

My 2007 VCTs are so old the shop wont touch the bindings when I got new ski boots. Im on the fence if I should adjust them myself. I have over 10 seasons on them so the bindings might not be safe anyway. Man I love these skis though, the are so stiff and bombproof its like having 104mm race skis that can rip groomers and tear down any face in any condition. Cant butter them though lol. Much love to my Pocket Rockets too, they are so beat up and old school I dont miss riding them as much.

VCTs in the middle:

Mothafuckas I got em. I got my white whale. Catch me on these this season.

the stormrider 88 is an amazing ski.

The sold out Atomic Infamous caused me to buy my ski that got away - 2016 Armada T Hall. That ski was ridiculous. So fun. I learned a lot of things on that ski. Ended up ripping the edge out in New Zealand :/

Honestly these wrenegade 96's that I have now are my favorite ski I've ever ridden. So versatile and badass

The k2 shreditor 102 with the retro graphics is up there too. Basically impossible to find but super fun ski to ride and really light

Not a ski but I will always have a soft spot for the 2013 FT TW pros. I used em up until this year and I will always keep them as a decoration.

As for skis, the 2012 AR7 was the first ski I ever bought new, and I used them until there were no more edges, and then kept using them.

never getting rid of my 2013 TW full tilts

The black and gold ct 2.0. I progressed so much on them they were perfect for me. I got nearly 250 days. They are now the coolest wall decoration. If anyone has an unmounted 172 or 178 PM me.

Yeah dude, I was at Solitude today skiing the rashy refrozen big holiday bumps - half bare, half death cookies - and I might as well been water-skiing though soymilk cuz these knives are SILKY SMOOTH.

Yesterday, the very very first run I took, they ate me alive (they cut so deep, take a lot of body work to drive in comparison to my detuned ARVs), but after 3 or 4 I figured em out and now I'm just like drunk on power.

ON3P x Jiberish Jeffrey. Only skied them like 1.5 days and was kinda strapped for cash at the time along with also having a bit of ski A.D.D. That graphic is a piece of art. Forever missed ?

I had a pair of Salomon rocker 2's (2015) that I adored. Skied them through highschool but unfortunately I had a growth spurt and they were too short.

Line Anthem from 2008

Miss those Wolf graphics, what I would give for a rerun of that topsheet on a different ski

They really do. I demoed them one day at Heavenly resort a couple years back. I don’t think I’ve railed on a pair of skis that hard in my life. They literally did not want to stop or lose the edge. It was amazing

the 2014 afterbangs, they were my first pair of skis and they were the coolest thing at my hill at the time, or the old LTC yellow or greens

My first year Ninthward first bloods were pretty sick, got pretty good at buttering them. I also really miss my old hellbents, still looking for a good soft powder ski to replace them.

I wish I’d never sold these- Sometimes I randomly roam the internet looking for another pair, but no luck.

985406.jpeg

But my one true forever ski is the K2 Made N AK- I still have them we will never part ways

I'd like another pair of Dynastar Trouble maker Series skis fresh out of the wrapper. Best ski ever for park no matter the top sheet from the Candied/Concept through out the entire series.

Fuck yes, I got those after my invaders delamed. Bombproof skis for sure. Crazy to think that the 90 waist was fat at the time. The carbon strap for complete stiffness

I remember thinking that the ultimate setup was CT 2.0s with some fks. The year they where army green specifically. Got to demo a pair on one of my first trips west and they felt soooooo fun.

985812.jpegCopped these used for $100 a few years ago in pretty good condition. They had been mounted twice from the previous owner and my shop told me that my bindings would be the last mount they would be able to handle. Next season I got a brand new pair of skis short notice for a steal and was too impatient/stoked to order new bindings for them so I retired the Franks. Really miss how soft and fun those skis were especially during spring lapping.

I’m pretty sure I have this set. 186 with the 4bi9 sticker right above the binding. If it makes you feel any better they’re still going strong and I absolutely love them!
