The Singularity

So today in my Philosophy class we had a speaker come in to talk about the Singularity, the point in which computers are more intelligent than humanity. Basically my mind was blown. First off, the guy/kid who spoke was 18, he graduated high school at age 8, had a bachelors in math and physics at 13, and got his phd this year at MIT. Despite this rediculas resume, on thing he spoke on was the possibilty of scanning our brains and uploading us to a computer program where we could do anything, like the matrix. He also said that the logarithmic grown of life expectancy will eventually accelerate to a rate of more than one year (of life expectany) per year. That we'll have computer brain implants that could succumb to virus. It was rediculas.

And to top it all off, all of this will happen in 10-40 years...

yeah ive read into heaps of stuff about this. do any of you know when Transcendent Man is coming out, or if it has already? i really want to watch that film. and for anything who came into this thread not knowing what it is, read into it. its scary, yet really intriguing

Dear God... We are going to destroy ourselves.

I Think waaay to much about this these kinds of topics, especially how us as Homo-sapiens have evolved trillions of times past any other organism on this planet. Its hard to think of any other life form somewhere else in the universe that could be more intelligent... I personally dont think we will be able to achieve "The Singularity", there are just too many other factors such as climate change, overpopulation and poverty that are in our way, not to mention an inevitable nuclear war.
