The search function

1) the first thing i have to complain about is how difficult it is to find something in a past personal message. i don't know if it's a big deal or not, but if sometime in the future we could see a feature that allows us to search back through our messages, i think that would be very useful.

2) after searching the site for a piece of information, why does it only give you back 50 results? it's so goddamn sensitive that trying to be specific doesn't always work to your advantage. there should be a "next" button that allows you to view ALL the results.

3) there should be more options for the search function. it's pretty shitty that it only lets you search through titles right now, but when you used to search for "pistol" and it came up with every time the word has been said in the history of the site, that got a little annoying too. how about an option to either seach for the exact words you type in, or allowing just a fragment of the phrase?

just a thought or two...
 
I agree. The search engine could definitely use some help. The ability to further specify searches is my primary concern.
 
yea with the messages, i think there sould in an inbox and an outbox. also it would be helpful if we could see a list of everyone we talked to and beable to go right to thier message history. and not through all of my messages till i find the right person
 
Its time for NS to refine the search bar. Just searching titles is fine, but we shouldnt have to type the exact title to get results.
 
yeah now a days you almost have to have the exact specific title of the thread or member or whatever you search. or else its not gunna come up with a result.

i liked the old style better.....where you coulda typed "the" and every thread title that contains the in it would appear.....sooooo much more convenient.

but thats just my opinion....maybe it took up more bandwidth or something?
 
Hey guys. I'm well aware of the ghetto-ness of the search.

The new picture & video galleries will be uploaded soon, and I've rebuilt the search engin to be more like google. Each word is search for seperatly and the results are ranked by how closely they match the search text.

I like the inbox/outbox idea for messages. I'll look into how to do this.

thanks paul. are you also considering letting us view more than 50 results, searching through our messages, and searching through cults?

The search method I'm using in the new pictures & videos sections (to be uploaded in a day or two) will work much differently than the current search.

If all goes well, I'll use this new method on all of NS.

Will this new search function search the actual posts in a thread? The main problem with the current one is that it just searches the titles.
