The reason why I hate skiing

You think proffessional skiing is hard? Tty proffesional skateboarding.

Also, who cares? Skiing is about having fun,if you happen to become good enough along the way to make some money, then thats pretty cool, but thats not the point of skiing.

"It was never about becoming a proffessional skier, that was something that just happened" -Sean Petit

This is skiing, there is no "big game" no one in the real world knows shit about our sport and I am far from disappointed about it, freeSkiing is an indy sport, and it's one of the most popular sports where all the participants just fuck around and have tons of fun

There's no recognition and it wouldn't be the same if there was

a champion is not bitch made and does not whine, they simply slay without any fucks given, any normal person can become the best skier in the world, for some may take more work than others, nothings impossible

I ski for myself. What keeps me going at it and progressing is the adrenaline and stokedness that I get from stomping a new trick. What everyone else is doing and "making it big" is not really a main motivational factor for me. Sure, it'd be great if having fun and growing from a skill standpoint led to that, or at least a sponsorship, but skiing is just too much fun to stop just because you feel like you will never "make it big".

Really? THATS why you "hate," skiing? Whats wrong with you man!?? Forget about going pro or whatever and just go out and have fun! Don't worry about anything other than the moment and just go out and have a blast, you are guaranteed to get better faster and just have an all around better time! Skiing is about fun, FUN. Not trying to go pro or anything.

Sure, I think it would be sick to go pro, but honestly, the only real reason is I think I could probably be able to ski more pow and cooler spots than just ski bumming! If you feel the moment is right to try to go pro, go for it, but if not, just keep having fun. That's what it's all about.

Also, getting better is a mind game, and you have to have an abundance of positivity. YOU sir need to get some more positivity.

Thats the natural progression of any sport. Olympic, team, action, anything. The sports start by sponsoring and idolizing the best athletes for its time. Then eventually, those who were considered "the best" get pushed out by a new generation

Look at skateboarding. Its damn near IMPOSSIBLE to even get sponsored in that sport, and I personally know kids who are outrageously good at skating. Its mind blowing. Skiing is no different

5 Years ago skiing was in the beginning phases of truly progressing and becoming popular. There were as many technical jump and rail tricks, so yes, it was easier to become pro. But times change, and it is normal for the sport to begin opening the doors to skiers who are truly amazing at the sport.

I feel you tho man, it does suck. I've been trying to get into the Dew Tour for 4 years and I've been denied everytime. Not that I deserve to be in it, but I'd like a chance to compete.

If I were you i wouldn't be getting too bummed. At the end of the day skiing should be about having fun. I've made the mistake of neglecting that fact over the past couple years.

Just have fun.

Winning? That's all skiing is about to you? My friend, you do not deserve to even touch skis, yet alone ride a pair. Skiing is a passion all of us here at Newschoolers love and enjoy planning our lives around. Yes, there are certain areas of our sport, but it is not solely to win. Look at the huge mass of skiers who only focus on getting their tricks smoother and with more flow to them. That's a giant amount of us and it doesn't seem like "winning" is very important to them. The idea that the sport of skiing was only created for people to win at is absolutely disgusting.

sure its been said but wallisch is the best. we've known that for a while now, but hes just finally stomping comp runs. its like federer or pre-scandal tiger. you might be good but you need to beat the best to win

Theres gonna be all new top level pros in 5 years. Somebodies gotta do it... probably gonna be somebody with a more positive outlook than you though...

I feel the same way. There's no way i would have a chance of getting into the x-games, but that really doesn't bother me. I don't ski to impress, I ski for the fun and for the challenge. I like to strive to be better than myself- not some overrated aerialists

If you watched the movie this is taken from you would get that the kid on the right hates fucking everything and all he wants to do is become a pilot and the guy on the right is fucked up as well but is kinda inspired by the kid for thinking how he does... the movie is called Little Miss Sunshine

(I really gotta reread the stuff I type) * If you watched the movie Little Miss Sunshine you would get that the kid on the left hates fucking everything and all he wants to do is become a pilot and the guy on the right is fucked up as well but is kinda inspired by the kid for thinking how he does that's why that picture is funny and relevant to this thread

that's the reason why i hate skiing

Wow you hate something because you aren't it, typical.

If you really wanted to you could be a pro skier. They are real people to they didn't get where they are posting up on newschoolers bitching that life isn't fair.

You see new kids make it all the time (goepper tyw are just a few ) just because not everyone makes it doesn't mean that nobody can. Pros wouldn't be pros if everyone was that good. Sorry for shitty grammer (on mobile)

to all the kids hating on mye in this thread...screw you. i can say what i want. just cause i hate skiing doesnt give you the right to tell whatever you want. all i wanted to say is that theres too much competition and skiing has lost its fun. im switching to something more underground. like wakeskiing.

No one is forcing you to take part in competition, to most people skiing is just about having fun, who cares about comps, at the end of the day it all comes back to just having fun on your sticks.

like said if u arent trying to go pro then it really doesnt matter, even if u are i bet the guys who arent winning every comp and stuff are still having fun which is the reason there in it for the first place.do u think tom wallisch was always the biggest name. no everyone starts some where.

100% on point response right here.

All I know is, when I am 40 years old, I'm not gonna be thinking "man, I wish when I was 20 i could have gotten sponsored and got paid to ski". I'm gonna be thinking "I went hard and had a ton of fun while I had the chance. and my knees hurt."

yea like everyone says just have fun. but furthermore, theres lots of names im unfamiliar with when i read articles on competitions especially in pipe

This is some fucking truth right here.

Contests also shouldn't be the be-all-end-all of the sport. That - in my mind - is the single most major failure that we've supported as an industry. Compared to snowboarding, so few people can make it as an edit/movie athlete alone. In skiing, you have to win contests to get recognized.

My single goal right now is to try and turn newschoolers into that engine that supports non-competition athletes. I know there is a way we can fix what is broken.

Dude, I don't plan on becoming a pro. I plan on moving to aspen, and skiing for my life. If i go pro, great. But if not, hey.... I still got skiing

Haha dude... Goepper was NOTHING before this year, and he's been on the podium at almost EVERY contest this year.

Yea, you have to be fucked up good, but it's not impossible. It's just not possible for 99.99999 percent of the people who ski.

Plus, I don't even care about who wins contests. When I'm looking for people that I would want on a team, I'm looking for people who are going to produce edits that make people feel good, that people will watch over and over again to get them hyped to go ski...

... So go ski because it's fun, not because you want to be the next comp pro.
