The reason why I hate skiing

Everyone keeps talking about future spins and how tomo wallisch keeps wining everything but I honestly don't care anymore. It is such a scam. No one else can break into the big game anymore.

Even if I was good enough to compete (throwing switch 1800s) it wouldnt matter. It's impossible to get your name out there and seems like only 1 person ever wins anything anyways.

just what I think

Thats why the skiers I like up to are people like Andy Parry, Will Wesson, Ian Compton, Henrik Harlaut, Phil Casabon, etc. For the most part they don't throw super crazy next-level shit but are creative and have mad style.

Style > technicality

unless you planned on making youre living off professional skiing, why do you care????? just have fun, its not all about becoming rich or famous right

why do you let it bother you?

who cares. if your doing it to 'get your name out' and be recognized by 14 year old girls, your doing it for the wrong reasons.how about just having fun?

Why you care is beyond me. But also, you're wrong. Skiing, like many sports, will always be a revolving door. Now that the stakes are higher, however, those with the means to utilize training facilities and ski a shitton will be at a major advantage when it comes to competitions and the like. Then again, that has always been the case.

The again, theyll always be the people who beat the odds, work harder than anybody, work their way to the top, and become the best.

You're missing the traditional idea of skiing! You're missing the point! These days with so much publicity around the sport, you kinda have to be born with the natural talent to be pro, it's like a LOTTERY. Sometimes you gotta forfeit the competitive game and ski for yourself, enjoying each and every run you do before you get back on the chair to go up again.

The people who can afford the money and the time, and also have x degree of natural talent, have won the "lottery."

Theres something super fucking creepy about this picture... The way its worded and the creepy fucking stare that guy is giving the kid... Something is not right.

It's from a movie called Little Miss Sunshine.

LSS the dude on the left just had his world crushed because he found out he cannot become a pilot. He has been a mute for three years or something in order to achieve this goal.

The guy on the right has bandages on his arm because he recently tried to commit suicide because the male grad student he fell in love with left him.

They both realize that no matter what others say/do they will achieve what they want leading to this quote said by the dude on the left... "do what you love and fuck the rest."

I'm not seeing the problem here? Are you really that mad your dreams of being a pro skier have been dashed?

the problem is you cant win anymore. when i started skiing anyone can make it but today its impossible.

im not mad that i cant be pro it just pisses me off that theres no point in trying anymore

like you could easily be pro, (you are way better than me) 5 years ago. but today its impossible

do you not understand?

who cares man. if you want to be pro you need to work at it. The only validity I can see in your post is that its pretty tough for like a "normal" kid anymore to become a pro skier. You pretty much need to go to ski academy and drop out of school and water ramp every day. Not hating, but the term pro has morphed into a bonified professional athelete, on par with any other sport.

I once wanted to be the very best like no one ever was. Then I realized I probably have just as much fun as the pros. except I don't have to hit big as sketch jumps on my off days, I can wear my goggles under my helmet at comps, and I probably make a slightly better lving than most pros. While it would be fun to be pro and orange on newschoolers, i think being myself is a lot more fun

It's progression in the sport just like any other. Look at the NHL many years ago they were anyone with talent got on the team, nowadays like said above with skiing, to make it you gotta devote your entire life to it by putting school at the back, summer camps, spring/summer leagues etc..

Now just cause i cant be pro doesn't make me want to quit, makes me want to ski my hardest while trying to have the most fun with my friends and family.

It's life getoverit...

well with that attidute your completly right, make an attempt and work your hardest, and you can do anything

thats a personal one, you can have it for free ;)

you could always kill yourself? because right now you're sounding like a little pussy who doesn't know how to do something just for the fun of it. but really man, you could kill yourself.

Bravo you've got it figured out, glad you're having fun out there. I think gaper needs to be redefined as all the wannabe unrealistic-thinking park-only (assuming there's other terrain) tabletop step down try-hards that actually think that they'll magically become pro-caliber skiers by learning 180s and 270-ons onto the down boxes each day, decked out in the sickest self-sponsored over-stickered shit. Sorry, but time is of the essence, and the top guns of the sport seem to be getting younger and younger all the time, making you're road to elite skiing disappear over the horizon. You know who you are. Get a job, make some money, go to camp, move to a hill, forget everything else going on in your life and get er' done, if you truly believe you can do it. There's a lot of bubbles that need bursting around here.

The reason I love skiing so much is because I can challenge myself on every single run, no matter where I'm skiing. I mean yeah...it's fun to chill with your friends and whatnot, but that adrenaline rush from pushing yourself and the satisfaction you get from landing a new trick is what it's all about for me. The best part...you never have to stop going for it, because you can always get better. I don't ski to impress people...I ski for me.

haha you're problem is you don't ski for fun anymore. do you really want to be a pro skier, or do you want to chill out with your friends, drink beers, and go skiing?

it's your choice.

I disagree. I think right now might be the prime time to "jump into the game." We are on the cusp of perhaps the last stage of progression that our sport can have. I know people will disagree with this, but all the hype is on triples. It has been proven that they can be done. If someone bursts on the scene and has triples on lock, he can rise to the top of the game very, very quickly. In 5 years triples will be the standard doubles are today (accept it), making breaking onto the scene even harder. This may be the best time to become pro, and the easiest chance to make a name for oneself. People want triples, they are possible, and they are just now starting to get thrown. Get it while the getting is good, and don't kill yourself in the process.

This is very true. Its easy to look back at where the progression was x years ago and get the idea that it was easier to break in at that time because the tricks where easier. But when you think about it. There where only a handful of people throwing the sickest stuff back then. And it still is now. It's all in the mind. those who threw down cork 10 at comps when they where the shit was at that level because they had the right mind for it: "if somebody else could do it, i can do it too, because there is no reason why anyone should be able to do something that i cant". Exactly the same kind of ppl are at the top right now, for the same reasons. And as iFlip has ponted out, its actually kind of "easy" to reach pro level now since you "only" have to throw already thought out tricks that not a lot of people already have done. You don't even have to be creative.

Tl;dr If you'r not the kind of person to throw doubles now. You wouldn't be the person to throw cork 10's back then.

Why would you want to get involved in contests and sponsors anyway? When you get sponsored you get to ski everyday! Awesome! No, wait, I ski everyday as it is and I don't have faggots in suits breathing down my neck to land a triple.. Fuck everything about this thread and comp skiing

Who is this? A personalized joke?

How would it be impossible to break ino the big game? The exact opposite is happening. There are so many new names in Dew Tour every season, especially this one, slope and pipe. I didn't know about Goepper one or two years ago. I didn't know about Chris Laker and i didn't know about Torin YaterW.

And what about only one person winning everything? I highly doubt that Wallisch will reign the next 3 seasons as he did this year. Look at pipe skiing, Kevin Rolland's series has come to an end, too. It is just a matter of time.

Fuck, you're an idiot.

By this logic Lebron James shouldn't have played basketball when he was a kid cause Michael Jordan was too good, and sydney Crosby should have stayed away from hockey cause of gretzky. There will always be a next generation and skiing is no exception.

Wakeboarding is mad fun, but then realized it's hard to become pro with more kids getting into the sport. So now i just hate wakeboarding.

You don't see how ridiculous that sounds? if troll... *applause*

Skiing isn't about being the best. It's about pushing urself, being better than u used to be, being in nature, enjoying yourself w good friends, it's about positivity and an escape from everything else. Its a lifestyle. If u are so concerned w winning and you have to be the best, go find something you are naturally great at and dedicate your life to it. Don't make a thread about not being the best skier when u don't ride 6-7 days a week for 6-8 months of the year. Lastly don't be so concerned about being better than everyone else, be concerned about being better than you were yesterday.
