The REAL story about "Skiing in L.A."

Just to confirm the truth about the post on "Skiing in L.A."

Mt. Baldy which is about 45 miles from Downtown Los Angeles towers over the L.A. basin at over 10,000 ft above sea level, and yes you can see the Pacific Ocean while you are skiing there. Baldy is really the only ski area where you can find real in bounds big mountain skiing, with bowls, cliff drops, and steep chutes. Mtn. High, snow Summit, and Bear Mountain all have pretty sick parks but really have no true big mountain terrain at all . FREEZE mag (rip) and Powder have featured Mt. Baldy in their mags in the Past. Freeze named it "Mountain of the Month". You can actually see the Pacific Ocean, and the Skyscrapers of Downtown L.A. on clear days. Here are a few pics of the place. We will be skiing there tomarrow.

yep...L.A. county!

baldy is tight, but 300+ days out of the year you can't see the ocean due to a layer of smog. also, most years the good stuff doesn't get enough coverage to ski. but on a good year, it is second to none.

wow it's funny to see you post this. i just hiked baldy yesterday for the first time. if you were up there and saw a guy packing pistols, that would be me.

anyways, i parked down at 6,000 feet and hiked all the way up to 10,000. took me 4 hours. there was about 10 inches of fresh snow, but it was super wet and not all that great. probably worth it, but i'm not a big fan of hiking 4 hours for 10 minutes of skiing.

anyways, baldy has better bowls and chutes than mammoth.

at least it isn't what i was talking about. the ski resort blows balls and can suck my ass.

i was talking about the back country.

Eh Sean?

Here are two more sick shots of Mt. Baldy CA. The 1st one is looking across from chair 4 over the valley to chair 3, and the top of chair 1 after a storm. The second pic is Tommy Ellingson pulling a big zero spin at chair 2. The 3rd pic is some sick ass So. CAL steeps. This is the REAL story about REAL skiing in L.A. County check em! 45 miles from Downtown L.A. yo..no smog on these days! haha

Mt. Baldy in So. CAl!

no smog? dude, baldy is above the smog...it can be clear as glass up there and have a bowl of smog in the valley.

yeah i ct wait im going to college in the west, possibly LA, good to know theres some skiing to be done

peep the bonus segment in booter crunk titled "Mt. Baldy"...Tommy Ellingson's dad owns the resort lodge...place is sick on all levels, especially this week and da new snow.

Like everything else outside of LA (the beach, the national parks, etc.) this place is MOBBED Friday - Sunday. The 45 miles sounds nice, but it will take you about 4 hrs on your average rush hour exit from downtown LA.

Still, can't beat waking up, hitting fresh pow from 830 - noon, then rolling to the beach from 300 - nightfall.

For those who don't have that much snow right now, I don't wanna rub this in at all, but We're so stoked because We just got 27 more inches of fresh since last night through this afternoon. Its April 5th. and tomarrow is going to be epic!

For those who are in So. Cal. it's going to be one of "those days" tomarrow!

www.mtbaldy.com

Hopefully all of you can make it up.

i rode baldy yesterday and it was super fun. lars and charlie showed me some jumps and i just had a good time riping down some decent runs instead of mellow groomers or park all day. lars and his friend i think john were good
