The psychology behind halloween costumes

unfortunately I couldnt get a costume together this year. but I paid a lot of attention to other people's costumes.

there is no psychology behind girls costumes, we all know this.

but for guys, it seems like a lot of assholes love halloween because it allows them to be what they have always wanted to be. when you see people dressed as a "bro" you know that in fact they actually wish they could be a bro in real life. also they may be gay.

some friends and I were at a party drunkenly singing that one song by lit "sleeping with my clothes on" or whatever, obviously kidding. some prick in a ron burgundy costume interrupted by saying "I'm sorry, that is just gay." my friend put it perfectly. the guy always wants to be an asshole to people, so he dresses as ron burgundy and thinks everyone will think his douchebag comments are funny

the worst was this one kid who passed by my friend. he wasnt even drunk and said 'nice haircut' sarcastically to my friend as he passed by. my incredibly drunk friend called him out on it:

"oh I get it. youre a douchebag." (kid was wearing a bag that said 'douche' on it)

"thats real funny, you're a real funny guy. you just wish you could be a douchebag all the time."

an argument resulted that involved my friend verbally pwning this kid. but its totally true. for the most part, when you pick a costume, that is what you want to be.

this doesnt apply all the time, but if you see any guidos, bros, etc you know they actually want to be one. just because you dress as ronald mcdonald doesnt mean you want to be him though, this doesnt always apply. its like my friend who would relentlessly bash scene music a few years ago and then went with me to warped a while back, as i suspected he actually liked the music I would play. its a defense mechanism

What?! People wear costumes/put on a act because it reflects who they really are inside?! CRAAAZY TALK

Everyone puts on a costume, not even just for hallween.  90% of the kids on here seem to wear the xxl gangsta shit. You're not a gangster, you just wish you were as cool as black people. Skiing is a rather elitist sport mostly enoyed by surburban white people with money. there aren't many kids from the rough streets of the ghetto that get to ski.

^thats not really true. people who are wearing that shit might not be

doing it for irony, like someone dressed as a bro is trying to imply.

i have a big hoodie covered in 100 dollar bills but I think mainstream

rap culture is a joke. I dont actually want to be a true gangsta on

the inside.

what I am talking about is people who pretend they are joking when they aren't.

like I overheard this one kid talking, was real drunk spitting

horrendous game at some girls. he was talking about how last year he

went as a UVA student and had double popped collars. i could tell this

kid would actually like to wear double-popped collars if people wouldnt

make fun of him for it

I'm lazy as fuck, so I waited until two seconds before we were supposed to leave and naturally came dressed in my ski shit... I guess that means I uhm.. want to be a skier...? Do all girls want to be sluts? Who knows.

i can see where this is going with girls dressing as sluts. if girls wouldn't be made fun of for being sluts, they would be fucking every dick possible. and that is a fact.

i went as a gangster, but i don't wanna be black and shoot people. so its partially true and partially not.

there are two days a year a girl can be a total and complete slut and not be called out on it. Halowe'en and their birthday. Thats it. And they go wild. and i love it.

i was a blind ref. its what i am....

kidding, but you have a good point. its mostly true. some group of kids came as the "new haircut" guido kid. they got comments like, what.... you dont look any different seeing as they wear muscle shirts and spiked hair everyday. it was a good laugh

Minus the intense ball restrictions my costume provided, your damn right. The joke amongst my friends was I didn't even dress up for Halloween.

at least i didn't look like i got into a knife fight with a 300 pound gorilla named bubba after i hooked up with freaky ass freshmen

gorilla suit with some baggy ski pants over the legs and my goggs on the head, needless to say it was epic

i think this is not true for the most part. i am dressing as a bro to a party tommarow night. double polo popped coller, birkenstocks, upside down visor, plaid shorts, oakleys, and holding a frisbee. the ONLY thing i own out of that is my oakley gascanns. i have no desire to be a "BRO" but im dressing like that to mock some of my friends. i guess it has to apply on the person but to say that all people that dress like something they want to be it is false. it may be true for some kids and you ussually know who those guys are

man there were four guys dressed as bros at my school and honestly i couldnt tell if they wre dressed up or not until i asked them. they dont realize that they always dress like that it was fucking hilarious.

My God that is a fucking sick costume. Did you talk like him all night too? Probably came naturally if you were wasted

thread creator is a fag who should stay at home and avoid human interaction because he is obviously far superior to normal humans trying to have fun at a costume party.

i think its going too far to say they want to be that person, but it many cases the costume choice may reflect an aspect of the characters personality they would like to take on

i was a used car sales man

it reflects by personallity since i like making deals that require no thought and a peice of paper

plus i get to wear tacky clothes

haha, my brother did that one year...he had a green visor though like he wears and a press pass, it was sick.

i said numerous times this doesnt apply to everyone. just some people, and you know who you are. what, did I strike a nerve? did you and your friends go as the U.S. mens swim team? did you secretly enjoy being in a speedo drunkenly grabbing your friends and hoping that maybe the revelry would get a little crazy and maybe, just maybe, you could sneak in a couple gropes?

haha im guessing the kid your talking about is corrupt1337 cause he juust posted a pic of his costume an it was a douche "bag"

just puttin that out there... take it or leave it but it was my research that got us this far Newschoolers, and i think i deserve a little credit, alright?!

yeah, okay thanks assholes try an see if i ever do any research for you again

oh what's that?

you're sorry now?? just goes to show how shitty of a friend you are NS

friendship=over

bff's no longer mr. bishop! and i even modeled my username after you!!

fine. just leave me. i'm going to BED!

to me it sounds like your friend was just kind of an asshole that provoked an argument with a probaby drunk guy.  so it was pointless and your reading too much into it.

people just want to be something funny for halloween so they can impress people.. i don't think its necessarily a refection of their inner desires.. thats just kinda ghey...  i guess the guy who was jack in the box really wishes he could be jack in the box.

i went as a coyboy on a pub crawl on the weekend, and then i went as dick in a box to a halloween party last night! good times

i own that shittttt, and trust me i'm way ahead of you, it's gunna be epic, but i'm probably gunna get wrecked cause you can't see shit out of the mask, but how crazy would it be to see some gorilla in snow pants bustin out in the park.... here's a picture

the fun part was when i did the keg stand with the entire suit on, then tried to shot gun a beer, the latter didn't ended with beer all over my gorilla suit
