The production of fake snow

for a chemistry project i am doing the production of fake snow...for this i need the formula or ratio of water to air so show how it is made...if anyone has any information about how fake snow is made (technical terms becasue most people know the bassist of snow production) then i would greatly apprechiate it.
 
also, if anyone knows who was the first person to use fake snow at large amoutns for a ski resort or even who created the snow machine and at what year, that would be cool too...thanks
 
yeh man the one that gets created by the snow guns or "towers" as some people call them...but ya it is the big time for me because i am east coast sking so thats what we ski on year round.
 
technically it is and technically it isnt becasue they do not come out as snowflakes. they come out as found "ice" pellets
 
that is true^ and pretty much all you need is for it to be less than freezing outside and spray mist into the air and it will freeze. also compressed air helps because when it expands it will cool rapidly to way under freezing... i did it last winter and it was pretty sweet
 
u dont need it be be below freezing...u can have it plus 1 or 2 becsue if u have more air, the particles of water are going to be smaller, therefor it will need less cold to freeze the molecules.
 
u need compressed air or extremely high water pressure (15,000 or more) I tried airless last winter nothing working.
 
in some resorts they use the sewer too make the fake snow, and it can turn into snow at like +5...
 
ya to make snow the temp plus the humitity must be below 50 so you can blow snow if its above frezing as long as the air is really dry
 
im pretty sure either nubs nob or boyne mountain in michigan were the first resorts that like "invented" snowmaking. but thats more of a urban lengend than anyhting

Snow can be made with water, and compressed air. Snow guns have whats called a 'nucleating nozzle(s)' that turns water into a nucleating agent that the bulk water source can freeze on(also with the help of tiny particles of matter found in natural water sources). Water can only freeze on a nucleus when the WET BULB temperature is appropriate- this is a combination of the air temperature and the relative humidity.

Snow guns are often towers to allow snow particles maximum hang time for freezing before hitting the ground
 
Dude, unless your teacher shreds, look up as much info as you can on google and then make the rest up. Just don't be lazy with explaining how the water droplets are turned to ice crystals by the air temp and the rushing wind since they teach science and will be familiar with that type of info. Remember that there is a reason they don't teach history.
