I'm not sure about you guys, but I thought that Band of Brothers was amazing. I've never seen such a detailed account of WW2...in HD. Who else thinks The Pacific, the new miniseries about Japan, is going to be just as awesome?

i watched BOB one day when I was sick and it was soo good. I was surprised people don't mention it along with saving private ryan and platoon (even though its way better than those).

ya im pretty excited for pacific

no, it was island warfare.

The Japanese strategy was unique for three reasons:

1. The Japanese didn't fight above ground. They fought the battle entirely

from beneath the ground. They dug 1,500 rooms into the rock. These were

connected with 16 miles of tunnels.

2. Japanese strategy called for "no Japanese survivors." They planned

not to survive.

3. Japanese strategy was for each soldier to kill 10 Americans before

they themselves are killed.

fucking brutal

HBO will make a masterpeice out of this, BOB was amazing and since then they have had time to fine tune their skills its going to be fucking gory but good.

yeah and they the Japs told all the villagers that the Americans ate babies and totured you and stuff, so the villagers said 'fuck that' and would take all their kids and go and jump off cliffs

If you watch other WWII documentaries it talks about the crazy stuff like that and show footage of moms throwing their babies off cliffs, and families jumping hand in hand onto a bunch of rocks like 500 feet below.

Fuck honor.

it was disgraceful for japs to surrender, it dishonered their country. Before anyone watches the pacific watch Letters from Iwo Jima and Flags of our Fathers, same conflict two different perspectives one japanese one american. Very informative and it would give a sweet basis for watching the pacific

when is this going to be on TV and what time? My dad thought it was on tonight but we couldn't find it in the guide. We don't have HBO though.

just watched it, really dope. Band of Brothers was really sick i'm psyched for the rest of The Pacific

First episode was good, although hard not to compare it to band of brothers the whole time. I don't think this will be disappointing at all though.

Anyone else order HBO today just to watch it?

i did haha
its really intense, especially the night combat, where you have no clue whats going on. good job capturing the whole fog of war. looking forward to the next 9

I did too!! Ha but there are some good shows on hbo at the moment... How to make it in America is pretty sick.

Pacfic is gonna be epic... Love how the format is the same as bob and in full HD it was insane... Will truly show how good a fighting machine the Japanese army was, but also how brutal it was out there.... Can't wait for the rest- already dissapointed it's only 10 episodes!!

Just finished...SOOO good. There is so much potential for future episodes.
On another note, I swear I saw Colby James West...anybody with me?

Ok second episode thoughts.... - I thought it was sick.... Crazy Crazy odds of holding out in those circumstances - that place must literally of been hell - just existing in those conditions, no food etc.... let alone fighting a force as organized and determined as the japanese and holding out....

I didn't like it too much. The battle scene was too chaotic, I had no sense of direction or anything.

Next week's looks booooooring as well.

thats how it was dude CHAOTIC. they are fighting in a forest shit is coming from everywhere, go get yourself some surround sound and a big ol' hd tv.

Didn't really clarify I guess. I understand it was chaotic, but it would have been helpful if we could actually see the battles. BoB had plenty of night battles but IMO the lighting was much better.

All I'm saying is that I enjoy watching the battles play out, rather than a bunch of shooting and explosions. If I wanted that, I'd watch Rambo.

And where do I get me some of this here 'surround sound'?

walimart got you a sound system for like 75 bucks nigga.

ya i do agree though BOB was better but this is still sick and its only the second week so lets give it a little bit to get going.

as far as night fights and the darkness goes, i dunno i think they are both equal. it was a completely different war and a completely different places so im sure its a little different getting on camera.

I think the main difference is that parts of the Normandy and the entire Bastogne battles were filmed in a warehouse with fake trees, so they could set up lighting how they wanted it.

Next week's looks boring though, they are just developing the characters and showing their drunken escapades.

i would watch it online, but i think i'm going to wait till its released on DVD so i can watch them all back to back in one sitting

just got a chance to finish it today. the last 3, (2 especially) were reallyyyyy fucking good. great show, very well done. i hope they do another one for Vietnam.

overall i preferred band of brothers.

I think the battle scenes were done better in it, and the character development was easier to follow. I think the pacific would have been better off following 1 squad or 1 guy rather than 3 separate individuals. It sounds strange, but it just felt like there was more of a connection to the characters in BOB. The time lapses in the pacific also somewhat threw me off. We meet 1 character in 1941, then 1 cut later, he's storming a beach in 1945. What happened in those 4 years?

I dunno. It was an excellent series, but i liked band of brothers much more.

yeah i agree, i wish they had followed one character or one squad, but it makes sense because they needed to show the whole war and not many guys fought the wholeee war (i believe) but yeah. the battle scene in Part Eight with Sgt. Basilone was really good. the scenes on Okinawa were awesome. the actors showed a lot of good emotion.

haha my friend showed me that scene without the volume on the TV and played "Sierra Leone" by Mt Eden Dubstep and it went so well together haha, pretty sweet actually.

Snafu was definitely my favorite character

haha i was watching jurrassic park this afternoon and realized it was the same guy. weird.
