The Pacific vs. Band of Brothers

Ok folks, the final episode of The Pacific debuts this Sunday, so weigh in here if you have been watching. Which series do you think is better/more well put together/more action packed and interesting. I have to say that Band of Brothers has blown the Pacific away so far. The story and plot are far more engrossing, and the character development in perfect. Every episode of B.O.B flows together perfectly without a hitch. My main problem with the Pacific is that it jumps around so much. The series follows guys like Leki and Sledge, but Leki hasn't been in like, the last two episodes and Sledge wasn't really a main role in the series until episode 3 or 4. The plot between episodes just seems disjointed, and Spielberg and Hanks are beating the "war of racism" angle to death in every episode. It isn't nuanced, it's blatantly obvious and it has a preachy undertone. Don't get me wrong, the series has been awesome thus far. The action is gritty and in your face, but a lot of it just seems too cinematic to me and really lacks the truth and feeling of Saving Private Ryan and B.O.B. Great series all the same though, even if it is filled with tired little soldierly cliches.

basically ive been doing my best to not compare the 2 but its been so hard!! i think band of brothers is better cuz its all the same characters one company the whole series it gives you the feeling of the relationship those guys had and what they went through the pacific does a great job at showing the disturbing, and harsh conditions the guys lived with on the islands in the pacific.. but still band of brothers is better both are amazing but band of brothers for sure

yeah, I understand how different the series was, but B.O.B just had a winning formula. The actors were incredible and had amazing chemistry. It's is incredibly hard to get that for a tv show or a movie. I still like the Pacific, but it just lacks some of the major things (and the small things) that made B.O.B so great.

I have watched BOB 3 times over, it is way too good. Every time I watch it I never want it to end, there is just so much going on and it just meshes up very nicely.
The Pacific is pretty good, I am looking at like a 'less than great, but better than a lot of shows' kind of way. That is the only way I can enjoy it.

The pacific is great but Im with you.....B.O.B. was better. The character development was better from the beginning in Band.

Until Sledgehammer showed up in The Pacific I thought the battle scenes were getting pretty weak.

But a bad HBO series is better than most networks best shows and all in all its worth watching.

band of brothers was epic - totally epic... but you know what? After last nights pacific (and the season!), the way i can sum it up is this - if i had a choice to go fight in the European campaign for 4 years, or go to the pacific campaign for 4 weeks, i'd choose Europe...
That shit was fucked up, and i think the Pacific got that across just enough..... it made me realize that every fucker lucky enough to make it back from the pacific campaign, well... they mustn't of ever gotten over that. in fact - my gf's Grandpa fought in the pacific campaign and he's never ever spoken about it apparently - now nobody will ask because it's pointless.... I now understand why.

Yeah, I agree. BOB is intense and follows a god plot, while the plot in The Pacific lacks the punch BOB had. With that said, the action is intense and the special effects are amazing in The Pacific.

Both of my uncles fought in the Pacific war, and it certainly was fucking brutal as all hell. With that said, there were definitely equally miserable conditions in Europe. Think the Russian front, and the Battle of the Bulge-coldest winter in Europe in centuries, fighting in frozen foxholes, spread way too thin with no winter clothing and very limited ammunition...no thank you. War is hell.

Yeah man i hear you.... but the japanese Soldiers and their brutal resilience would of just been fucked up. But yeah, the Russian front was insanely brutal. The Pacific just got so intense last night, with the civilians situation..... I dunno, i just found last nights fucked up...
That said, i have found the Pacific has brushed over the whole campaign briefly, at least with BOB, it went on for so long, you actually felt like you were there....

I'd go with Band of Brothers; there is just something extra about it that puts it over the top. I've also read the book so that may contribute to it.

I think one of the key reasons that Band Of Brothers was so much better was that it was about real people who were really in the same company; and that 90% of what happened in the series happened in real life. Being able to watch it, read the book, and hear the actual soldier speak about his experiences and having all the stories be identical is what really pushed it over the top for me. That being said, the Pacific is a really good TV show, it just lacks that something special to me.

i liked band of brothers much more. For one thing, i much prefer studying/reading about the european theater of operations, and i feel that the pacific somewhat jumps around too much. It would have been better if they selected like say, 1 squad, and followed them throughout. Not 3 different people. Also the time in the pacific is strange. It felt like....we saw 1 guy join right after pearl harbor, we saw him fight once....then suddenly it's 1944, and he's been there for 3 years.

it's still great, but i don't think it's close to band of brothers

Book was great.

last nights episode was crazy. def one of the best episodes out of both series. its crazy how much your train of thought changes in was when there are civilians in the mix. baby bomb....

To tell the truth, the pacific has been pretty squad focused, especially with Leki and Sledge. I miss most of the other guys that were in the first few episodes, they were a bit more interesting and dynamic. Sledge's friend from home was a great character. Got LAID in Australia.

Band of Brothers is far greater than the pacific.

The Pacific is good, but that's it. Maybe it's not fair to compare it to BOB as it is possible one of the best series ever. It just seems like the pacific is lacking something, although it has picked up with sledge and his friend.

Unless something happens in the last part, the pacific is just a good series and a bit of a disappointment, compared to bob.

the war ends in the next episode, so there is probably no chance for any more action. I like how Sledge has matured though, I thought he was going to be a puss at first. He has kicked some serious ass though.

word, took the words out of my mouth.

BOB is more about being a band of brothers and how guys work through hardship.

pacific is more about how fucked up war is.

to me, although theyre similar its like comparing apples with oranges as far as what they are trying to depict. both are fucking unbelievable, im sickly obsessed with both shows.

i kind of like the pacific more. seems like they are following characters more. but the episode with just john bassalone was boring

this.

the pacific dosnt even come close.

and dont get me started on the wire. i get all teary eyed when i watch the end of the last season. not because the show is sad but because i know there will never be another new episode.

another question...best intro EMBED PLEASE THE BUTTON NEVER WORKS

or

hard to say, I'd have to stick with BOB. Pacific music is more emotional I think.

And Band of Brothers takes it for me for this one line:

Pulling rank... BOOYAH!

And Speirs being a psycho.

BOB was much better. partially because it was easier for someone of simple intelligence (ME) to follow. i actually have kindof a hard time sticking with the plot and where everybody is/what the fuck is going on when it comes to the pacific. its still a great show. i also feel like i didnt get to know the charachters very well at all.

ALSO. the intro to the the pacific is WAY too fucking long. shits like seven minutes, and its just someone dragging charcoal around on maps and shit. totally unnecessary for every episode.

I don't remember band of brothers too well because i never watched all of it and i was kinda young so i dont remember. With that being said The pacific is great. I do agree with those above me who said it jumped around too much. I agree completely. Also at the beginning of episode eight the veterans talked about Iwo Jima and then that episode was not on Iwo Jima i was quite confused by that. But i do really like the MIni Series and I am sad to see it end this weekend.

I'll say it like this:

The Pacific is awesome and great television. No doubt about it. But B.O.B. is just...more. I actually shed tears while watching it, because of the development of the characters and what it led to; I didn't even want it to end.

The Pacific however, as mentioned, just does not do it for me. I have no idea why exactly, hard to explain. It just lacks some substance. I did enjoy everything with "Lucky" though! Especially the Australia episode.

I think they were trying to go for different ideals in each.

You can't say, Pacific is better or Band of Brothers is better. The wars were completely different, fought on completely different terms. Germans were, in a way, reasonable. Let me assure you the Japanese were not, at all. They would do whatever they could to kill us. The did fucked up shit beyond anything we had ever seen before.

Pacific set out to show this. Pacific was a war that wore down on the soldier's souls, that beat them down by the pure horrific things they saw on a daily basis. I'm not discounting the sacrifice of the war in Europe, but they things that happened in Guadalcanal would make anyone, even the hardest of men, cry at night.

I like both, equally.

Honestly if there is one tv show that is completely worth it to go to the store and buy it is band of brothers. I watched it online for awhile and got fed up with the quality I finally sucked it up went to hasting and bought the dvds. I have probably watched them 4 or 5 times through and it still never gets old. Not once have i regretted buying it.
