The Opening Day Edit (contest?)

exactly. dec 10th is waaaaay too late for an opening day edit contest. some mtns will be open for atleast a month.
 
That'd be so dope. I would might actually try to get there, somehow. When did they open last season?
 
i dont know when alyeska ohpens, but i might be able to to throw in a hat to the prize package.

possibly the winner could be a mod?
 
I fully support this idea. And it will be easy to tell if someone is cheating with non-opening day imagery because anyone who rides that day can vouch for the setup/conditions/weather, etc...

I would love to see this occur.

well yeah, but then you will just film that opening day. its unfair to a lot of east coast or midwest kids because their home hills dont open till then. and really, i live in steamboat, in the middle of CO and it still doesnt open till nov 26. im calling it now. DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 10TH! . im also going to say that your edit has to be in 10 days after your hill/mtn opens.
 
i think it should just be one mountain, cause i think th egoal is to show the opening day, wich should be your 'first' day of skiing, not your 10th because you have been to all of thir opening days. and to the thread creator, i think tht the time when you have to send in your edits should be shorter than 10 days, maybe like 2, just so it doesnt become the best editing of your opening day contest.
 
you can do multiple opening days, but then you would have to enter different edit, dont mix two opening days. as for the 10 day deadline, im going to stick with it because i like good editing, it enhances the feel that we are trying to show in the edits.
 
plus it usually opens on a thursday and i cant get up there then so it would have to be and "opening weekend" edit for me

while it sounds like a good idea, and I support it because I will always dig watching edits, it would be unfair for a lot of people whose mountain doesnt open with features, or opens in december, and stuff like that. it would be really hard to judge.

but for the sake of more material, yay.
 
yeah. mount snow is trying to get a mid october opening, along with some other east coasters. we'll see tho.

i still think middle of december is too late. most of us will be in the winter break by then. by winter break i usually have 10-15ish days of skiing, east coast, many west coasters even more. theres got to be a mountain near everyone thats opening in nov. it might not be the closest, but make the drive. if you dont wanna, then dont make an edit.

if the season starts real shitty and the bigger ones dont open till waaaayy late then ok, but if things go as planned...

maybe we do dec 1st deadline for a finished edit? that gives most enough time to do a solid edit. if you look at the videos from last season, most opening day edits were before dec 1st.

whatever the due date is, i think whoever runs the comp should pick say the top 5, then have ns vote for the winner from those best picks.
 
alot of kids would would be fucked out of this contest though. my mountain opened december 7 last year, and it was the second earliest date ever EVER in the 50 years its been opened. and we didnt even see anything that resembled a park till mid january. oh well i guess i just wont enter. but thats what im saying. a lot of east coast mountains dont even open till mid december.

thats why i like the idea of having your edit in 2 days after the opening date of your mountain, having all of them in by mid-late december. then the winner could have some sweet stuff sent to them around christmas time. it would be sweet.
 
what mountain do you ski at tho? im sure theres mtns within a driving distance to ski a day or two. kids drive from boston, conn, nj, all to ski mtns in vt, especially the windham and ms railjams at the end of last season. if you wanna ski then you'l make the drive...camp out over night and ski 2 days in a row. or drive up afternoon, campout over night n ski in the morning...

and, if your mountain isnt gonna open till dec, and you dont have anything like a park till jan, then theres no reason to enter the contest really...mtns like mount snow, killington, sunday river, stowe, okemo, just to name a few, will all have such a better set up than some tiny mtn, so the contest is obv gonna be won by someone at those opening days (or a bigger mtn out west). theres no way ur gonna win with a "good vibe" but only a flat box. bigger mtns go bigger on opening day, thats why so many liked mount snow last year. they started off with an actual park run with 10 features or so. you can always enter the contest, but its kinda pointless really. you can still obv make an edit n post it on ns, but its not gunna win a contest.

im really not trying to sound negative or w/e, and i understand some people are in a less fortunate area of the world, but it just seems kinda pointless to post a video with a flat box session in dec, when kids are out skiing jump lines, do you get my point?

also, leaving the due date till way late but saying it has to be put in 2 days after the mtn in the video opens is kinda dumb. some people can get a solid edit done in 2 days, others have other things to do. some won't make it home in 2 days cause they're camping out/staying at the mtn for the whole weekend or w/e. if the deadline isnt till dec, then it shouldnt be till dec for everyone. if not then atleast have it be a week or two after the mtn opens. videos will have to be checked by members of ns to make sure all features shown are infact from the opening weekend.
 
youre actually right though...i live in northeast pa and there are a ton of mountains within a relatively short driving distance. i can get to big boulder in like an hour and a half, and they open real early. like i read earlier in this thread they wanna open in october this year. so yea i guess your right.
 
ok heres the deal. going with DECEMBER 10TH as the deadline. also your edit must be in 10 days after that hills opening day! this seems pretty fair to everyone, since there at least should be a hill within driiveable distance by december 10.

i think this is such a good idea but the only thing i have a problem with is the deadline. i ski at a small hill in mass that wont open untill mid december. for everyone who skis at mt snow and your mountain opens at the end of october thats great just film your edit and hang onto it dont make the deadline early and punish kids whose mountain opens late
 
the point isnt to show off your best stuff, but instead its to show how creative and stoked ppl get on the 1st day of the season

hopin to see a lot of handplants and handdrags in these edits...
 
all the places i go are rarely open by nov 10th. especially in recent years they havent been open till mid december...
 
i dont know if u guys ever herd of woodbury ski area it was the first place to open on the east coast a few years a go heads up for n underdog
 
you want to make the deadline the same week as Finals for many of the colleges across america..not good!
