The Ohio Dreams Review...something everyone should read

So I just returned from Ohio Dreams, and wow it is epic. First of all I would like to say that cris they guy who owns/ runs the camp is awesome. He genuinely cares about action sports and skiing, he is all about having fun and acts like a camper (in a good way). Also I would like to say that I have been to windells and Ohio dreams is way better. At Ohio dreams you can learn tons of new tricks safely and quickly, I learned so much. I was always one of those people who were to scared to learn tricks on snow cuz i didnt want to get hurt, so Ohio was perfect for me. the camp is pretty small so you can get tons of hits in. the coaches you may not of heard of but they know what they are talking about and help you learn. the skate parks are so awesome and the bike courses are sweet so if you get bored of skiing will still have fun. But if you want to ramp all day you can. And after all that it is so so so so so cheap. 750 for 2 weeks is unreal, compared to other camps. BOTTOM LINE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE FUN AND TAKE YOUR SKIING TO THE NEXT LEVEL GO THERE!!!!!

^ I am not saying it is better, I am saying if you dont want to risk getting owned when learning double flips or corks (me). then go to the water ramps. Also if you have to pay for camp like i do then $750 is much more afordable than the $2000 it takes to go to windells for half the time. and the water ramps are pretty much the same as skiing on snow

I'm going to have to disagree with you on the safer that snow and feeling like snow part. I didn't even drop in (after watching my two sponsored friends eat major shit falling on the inrun [we snowboard]). It's not snowfelx. It's just white carpet.

some snowboarders get it right away, and some dont, not depending on the abilities at all (generally at least snowboarded before though..)

I also just returned from two more weeks of camp and I want to give a HUGE shout out to Chris and Cy at Ohio Dreams for helping me out and that.. If all goes well I will be there next summer shredding once again for a little longer!

Whether or not this will once again turn into a snow vs. water ramp fight thread, I would like to say and reiterate that this camp is legit. The people running it are genuine good people, and all they care about it is you having fun, staying safe, and getting the most out of your camp experience. They care about every campers well being, no matter who you are, and they work their asses off 24/7 to make their camp the best it can be. If you want to be a part of a place that is helping to progress our sport for the better, for the future, then go down to Ohio Dreams and check it out! If you dont, fine, but please let everyone decide for themselves. The camp is continuing to grow every day, and they are taking it all in stride, developing the increase of shredders into something simply amazing.

If you think you are better, or lack the talent, then you should have been there two weeks ago, where everything from first time snowboarders, to double kangaroo flips were being thrown down off the water ramps. Some of the kids there shredding are the future of skiing and if you ask them they will tell you they trained at Ohio Dreams..

Hopefully I will see you all next summer!

Is it good for begginers? Cuz im only a few hours a way and I could actually convince my parents to let me go to this next year.

I'll add though. My day at Ohio Dreams was possible the best day so far this summer. I went for the DNA Evolution Tour and the Ohio dreams facilities are top notch. Chris Ashcraft is a really cool dude too. He made the camp for people like you and me who like action sports. He certainly isn't in this to make money. Infact, he's struggling financially i heard. So get out there and support Ohio Dreams, because they certainly support us and our action sport culture.

Here's a video from the DNA Evolution Tour at Ohio Dreams along with the skatepark and water ramps.

yeah there were a bunch of really little kids there who were beginners and by the end of the session they were throwing 7s 9s and flips

wow 750 sounds really good, i mean you can't even find a place to stay like motel for cheaper than that for two weeks and let alone have the facilities they have(from what i've seen)

yea, ashcraft is the man. He risked soo much opening the camp and its a huge success, props to him for sure

yea the dorms are cool but scary as shit i mean middle of woods and BARELY any cell service so its a little scary especially when the conselers put goats in your dorm and light off fire crackers

some kids fells better tring corks and stuff whe n it wont hurt because they are afrraid to slam on thier side or something but i see where you are coming from too

Huge success? I suppose if struggling to stay open due to financial problems is a huge success.

EVERYBODY GO AND SUPPORT ASHCRAFT/OHIO DREAMS. HE SUPPORTS YOU GUYS AND YOUR SKI CULTURE! /tanner hall caps lock

Sorry for the double post, but depending on the financial situation I heard rumors of Ohio Dreams getting a rail setup similar to style setup the DNA Evolution Tour has!

who was your councilor, and D-R-E-W, yes i believe that next year they will be getting 2 tramps and possibly a rail setup, email them and express your interest, they will listen, they are very open to ideas. support this tight new camp i learned so much and you can to

Inground tramps are coming next year, they had to have their insurance for so long before it could happen. Last I heard they were putting in a DNA setup, plus the counselors set up rails outside becauset they all ski. Like they said above, call them or email them about your ideas and they will certainly take them into consideration if they are good. A BMX race track was added while I was at camp and its super fun.. Plans for motocross in the years to come..

Reed, although yes, the camp antics might have scared you (goats in the cabin), it was all in good fun, and was allowed due to the small amount of campers your week. As the camp continues to grow, they are making changes in the dorms and adjusting things to be better for everyone. Younger guys now have their own cabin apart from the older boys, each with their own sets of counselors. I would assume that if and when you return to camp next year, you will notice some pretty big changes, that are all for the better.

As for cell phone service, maybe switch providers. I get service fine at the dorms.. :)

Jea, Ohio Dreams FTW!!!! (sorry eheath) really though, i've been out here for 3 weeks now working as a counselor and ramping and skating a bunch, and it has been a blast. i will be sad to leave when it is over.

As for rails, there will be a full sized summer setup next year with multiple rails, similar to the DNA setup, and at least one if not two in ground olympic trampolines, one with a bungie rig for people who are just starting to filp. We have had multiple people here who have been to Windell's and Woodward in the past and they all say that they feel they get more for their money here and that the facilities are as good or better than those camps.

Thanks to everyone who has been to camp and who has supported Ohio Dreams and to those who haven't I hope you can make it here in the next few weeks, or otherwise next year for sure.

I talked to chris about 3 weeks ago at ohio dreams about coming up for a day or 2 to ramp without camp, just so i can work on stuff before the season. I cant do it at placid without a coach and ussa and bullshit. so ohio dreams was my only option. NEVER got the call back. he COULD have called me back at the number i left him after talking to him to tell me i cant come up and ramp, but he didnt. Wayyy to support the newschool movement. Im not looking to go to camp when i can destroy any one of your coaches at ohio ramps. I even offered to help out with the campers, coach them and whatnot so im doing him a favor in return for allowing me to session as well as me paying for it too, by no means looking for a free day. Soooo as you can prolly tell, Im not a fan. All i wanted was a day or 2 on ramps since i work everyday to get money for the winter and couldnt go summer skiing or anything of that sort....

dude took me as a joke. so much for ohio "dreams" where the supposed newschool movement is supported.

and yes.....i am posting this publicly incase any staff sees this. Because a legit business has some sort of reliable customer service. When service isnt legit, it deserves to be called out.

its too bad you had a bad interaction with a chill guy. it is quite possible that he never got the message from the counselor, or even that he had to take a kid to the hospital. I wouldnt judge a camp for one bad experience, especially if its the 2nd year the camp is operating

yeah man i understand why your mad but dude it just like any other camp cocs not going to just let you in for a day or pay for two so i mean you cant get to mad at him for that and the dude is mad busy he has yet to have a day off since he started the place so the lest of his worries is someone trying to get in for a couple of days. i can destroy any one of your coaches at ohio ramps. and thats a BIG clame

double kangaroo flips....damn i thought kangs were just barely getting around but dubs....dayum

ya now that every one says there getting a rail setup next year im deffinatly going, just wondering who the coaches/counselors are

I went for two weekend day sessions last year and had a great experience. This year, however, he wouldn't even entertain my inquiries about day sessions with a response. Instead, every attempt was ignored. I HAD really enjoyed that place and the direction he was taking it. Now, not so much....

Thats because the camp is moving toward being more of a camp than a entertainment park for Ohio, Cris cant please everyone

why not cater to the newschoolers who cant afford to go to camp out west? any sensible person would go to ski on snow. I can live on snow in the summer for 3 weeks instead of paying the price for 1 week at ohio dreams. I mean, isnt that water ramps are for? day sessions. And legit places like windell's did open their park to me, so i see no reason why ohio dreams couldnt do it....

This year counselors were JibJib plus two others, both BMXers.. and coaches were Austin Ramaley, Brendan (Jib), and Chris coached almost every night himself too.. More staff to come next year, for sure legit for coaching..

They prolly couldnt do it because they are struggling financially, this is the second year the camp is running and cris prolly realized that the best way to make money is to run week camps instead of day camps. Windells only has that kind of money because the grossly under pay their staff, but i wonder if they gave away free passes their second year running

^^ me and you should see if they will split a session and ill go for half and you go for the other half

i dunno if it will be the same next summer but i know that if you payed for 1 sesh you got another free...so you could have both went in 350 or whatever it was and each got a sesh

To the people that have read this thread and people that are going to read it.... I am Chris Ashcraft one of the owners here at Ohio Dreams Action Sports Camp. I am going to try and set a few things straight.

First off I am, and will always, be a supporter of the freeskiing movement. That is why I work for 4FRNT Skis and SMS Clothing, so I can stay connected with the youth of our industry, the ones who are pushing our sport to new and higher levels. One of the main reasons that I built Ohio Dreams was so that skiing and snowboarding athletes could have a safe environment to push themselves to go bigger and get better.

Second, I truly believe that there is a place in the industry to have on snow and off snow training for skiing and snowboarding. If water ramps were of no use the pros would not use them. Why do you think Olympic athletes use the water ramp facilities at Lake Placid and Park City in the summer to train? Because they are learning things that if they mess up on snow, will almost certanly kill them. For instance, Jon Olsson and the Kangaroo flip. This trick that is becoming huge in our sport was learned into a pool not on snow, nor at a summer camp on a glacier.

Third, Ohio Dreams was created to be a summer camp nothing more. Because of the economy, building issues, and just to get the word out we did do day sessions last summer which I believe is one of the reasons we are having succes this year. When this camp was in conception, one of my biggest fears was mixing the outside public with our campers whos parents have intrused us with their safety. This is why during the summer we have not done any day sessions. To this point we have had campers here the entire summer including on the weekends. I know that this does limit some people that can not afford to attend a summer camp for a week, but we are working on getting a scholorship program together for just such reasons so next summer we can get as many people here as possible.

Four, I run, manage, clean bathrooms, answer phones, hang out with kids, and that literally takes up about 14 hours a day, that does not include seeing my wife or my eight year old child whom have seen very little of me since we started Ohio Dreams. I truly appologize if I do not return some phone calls it is not intentional or becuase I do not belive in this industry, it is because I get about (not exagerating) 40 phone calls a day and I do not have time to get back to everyone . My entire family has given up everything to make Ohio Dreams not only a reality for me, but for all of you in the skiing and snowboarding community.

Finally, I want to say thank you for everyone that has supported Ohio Dreams and made my "Dream" possible.

If anyone has any questions concerns or constuctive critisizm, please email me personally at Chris@ohiodreams.com

We will be doing a few day session when camp is over probably sometime in the middle of september check out the website for more info.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!!!

I should have prolee said this before but ohio dreams is really sick, and i think you can learn more new tricks there than on snow. First you can hit the foam pit on skates, no pain what so ever no matter how you land, then go hit the water ramps on skis with less pain than trying on snow. You can get a new trick dialed there before you even do it on snow.

that scared me but i cant stop laughing when i think about it the experience was amazing im sorry if i was saying some negative stuff about it but they care so much about you like if you want some food from the store they will get you whatever it is and if you need training theyll be out there RIGHT AWAY...btw my counseler was brandt jarvis but it was austin ramaley and austin shroeder who put the goats and lit the fire works off.also, did anyone have the nature camp there when you were there?

wait who is this? i was there when the swedish kid went to the hospital around june 14-21 and i;m reed and they called me cincifagi hahaha

Chris...you are the man you wont believe all the stuff i learned there on the last day while you were in baltimore (including backies) hahaha funny times but you guys need to help him out regardless of what happens (missed phone calls or e-mails etc,) just go and i can gaurantee you that you will learn a TON and have so much fun there i think ohio dreams is the greatest place on earth
