Anyone else this thing was blown way out of proportion? It's only got 35 minutes of skiing, the music blew, half of the peoples segments sucked balls, half of Pep's seg was from Volume 9 and magazines, and it just didn't get me as excited to ski as Forward did. Now flame away, but this is my opinion.

first off, the music was fucking tight, second, the segments were all fucking tight. Finally another movie is made where it is not as many different skiers in one movie, but good segments for each rider. Every skier had mad style and went huge. All the skiing from Peps segment was from Volume 9 you say, what if you see this movie first, ofcourse there is the same skiing for the same rider dumb fuck, the movie is fucking tight, buy it

 
agreed on everythin other than the soundtrack, which i thought they did a good job on.

Those are mighty strong words coming from such a small jibba. I really dont like the fact that you even started a thread with this title. I haven't even seen the movie and I KNOW that it will be really awesome. No other ski movie has really filmed in the perspective as '1242'. The focus points are few and there segments look extra long.

I cant wait to see it.

see, its people like conceptkid that prove my point. They haven't seen it yet, but they KNOW its going to be the best thing ever. I had that same expectation, and it came up way short. And how can you say that every segment was quality? Mikales was about a minute long and all the big mountain segs sucked. It's a decent movie, but it definitely doesnt live up to the hype that surrounds it.

If you didn't like it because it didn't live up to the hype, then you shouldn't let yourself get so hyped up.

If you think that Forward was better, I'd like to hear why.

If you think it was still better than anything else you've seen, then hype aside, it's a great movie.

Music is incredibly subjective. I thought the music was sick. I'm so over all hip hop and punk in movies. But that's just me.

i have seen it,i have it.ive seen rfa and foward and focused and volume nine and the best movie so far was faward or rfa but more foward. 1242 isnt that good so if u want to buy a good movie this year get rfa foward or of course french toast because candide is fucking sick

I'm been wondering this:

When you actually BUY a video,does your view of the movie turn better,even how bad it is,in your subconsciousness(sp?)? I also noticed that I love Forward. But when one of my friends told me some things he really didn't like about it,I kept on defending Forward,and calling the movie he bought pretty crap. Is this a battle? C'mon,we all have different tastes,you just can't go telling 'DON'T BUY IT,IT SUCKS ASS',the film-makers don't need a bad rep for their vids just like that. If you're gopnna call it shit,call it shit fair and square,do a review and explain WHY it didn't just click for you.

I'm also looking towards seeing 1242,and my expectations are high,but I've seen many Hollywood films in my life with high expectations and noticed they really were bad films.

This is skiing. My GF always asks:'Another ski film? Does this one have a plot?' No,it doesn't. Like some guy above said,tune out with your own music and mute the screen,there you have it,pure skiing,images,that's all you could want. Right?

Harvey, Forward was a MUCH better film for one simple reason, it made me want to ride. That's why we watch movies, is to get stoked and motivated. 1242 again is a decent film, but it just didnt put me in the mood to go skiing. I agree that music is subjective, but I just didnt think it 'fit' with the skiing.

ya i really don't see how a segment can get better than pep's in 1242..

JP, Tanner, Jon, etc all had solid segs. If anyone checks the bonus, Tanner has a 5 min long segment which is completely nuts, but ya all around I liked it.

^ thats what I'm talking about how the bonus material sucks. That Tanner seg is the same thing as his seg in the movie, except for maybe 3 more tricks thrown in. The crash bonus section was just the credits without the credits.

1242 was flat out good. Most of the time when you watch a ski movie for the first time, you're dissappointed because it's been a long summer and you've been thinking of sicck tricks in your head, and those in the movie aren't quite as good....but watch it a couple more times...its good.

let me preface this by saying, I'm not making excuses. I'm pationate about my work, and when someone tells me 'half of it sucks balls' It hurts. I'm going to expalin to you why certain things were the way they were with 1242, and ski movies in general. Factual data, not 12 year old ranting.

In regards to Morrison: Look at it like this... Seths segment wasn't up to its usual par in the MSP movie, and its a little known fact that, for better or worse, that MSP owns Morrision's soul, and makes it impossible for anyone else to get footage of him.

So if he had a dismal year with MSP, expect even less with anyone else... EVEN IF ITS THE OAKLEY MOVIE... its just the way it is... of course you have no idea what I am talking about, but trust me. Regardless, If you bought 1242 to see Morrison and Morrison alone, you bought the video for the wrong reason. Belive me when I say it, he is VERY luck to have what he had in the video.

As far as mickeals segment being to short? take it up with him... The athletes segments were the length they were because of the amount of work they put in during the season. Julien had a short segment because he had a finger that was in pieces most of the season, JF had a short segment cause he plays more golf than he skis, mickeal had a short segment becuase he lives in switerland, is fucking impossible to track down, and in general couldn't give two shits about anything. So e-mail Mickeal and tell him to film more.

 
You have to watch it a couple times to appreciate it. There is so much tech shit that will blow you away. Half of Boronowski's seg is unnaty and all of JF's is besides one huge three. I think 1242 showed that the NCAF can still ride with the young guys. Jon's huge switch misty is so much smoother just like his nose grabs. I was the most impressed with Pep's seg that huge cliff to switch.

dude cmon first of all, all of the people who were said to delivered, delivered, and some unlikey people stepped it up like philou and jf, kristi is fucking dope and skis like a guy but is like the hottest girl, the music was the dopest shit ever, like harvey said it had deep hip hop, punk, 80s stuff, and an intro that pumped u up....dude what else do u want????? For me, thats movie of the year, and by the way forward is sick and ready fire aim is wicked sick, they all are good movies, the oakley movie is just higher calibur

i haven't seen it yet and i hope it gets delivered to the shop tomorrow, but people bitch about every friggen movie...there's always something wrong. most of the time the people bitching are the ones that have never attempted to make a movie. i helped a lot in making the final copy of gwyne and let me tell you it is not easy. all you little babies that bitch about movies should shut your traps. its a ski movie isn't it. respect what the person put the time, effort, & dedication into making. i'm sure when i watch it i'll be stoked byt the movie. not everyone in the world can be pleased....someone always needs something to bitch about

Just a thought to those who are getting wound up and begin these as Dave so eloquently stated it '12 year old rantings' I simply ask you to consider the source. I am not going to attack people, but perhaps someone who starts a thread such as this, and then blasts an obviously good movie, has certain biases or motives. Maybe they feel that they need to be as loud as they can because they are in the minority, which seems to be the case here. I can't make assumptions on whether it is better or worse than forward, or any other movie for that matter. But before you read something like this thread from jibba jabba, consider the source.

in regards to the bonus it wasnt that bad, the director's commentary version of the video was cool to like learn about each shot, cribs was alright too, and i liked tanners longer segment

Jibbajabba, you have every right to psot what you think, but dont be so surprised when people say your like a 12 year old, your 'review' was more like an attack, it didnt even have both the pros and cons.

OH, and Capurninicus (if thats how you spell it), that is soooo right. I have the same problem, i jsut see skiing in my head all the time, and make up stuff like tricks and jibs, then you flal back to reality.

last year level 1 took the cake- best ski movie out there...this year def. 1242..i was skeptical of poor boyz because i wasnt a huge fan of happy dayz or propaganda but 1242 came out incredible...im with harvey on the whole music thing, i thought it was great and went well with all the skiers...if you don't like it thats your own opinion but maybe take a closer look at how good the skiing is

i thought the bonus section was great. tanners re-edit was awesome, way more sick tricks, jf was HILARIOUS, and it seems like they put a lot of work into it with all of the differnt stuff and whatnot.

 
morrisons segment was kinda lagging, half of the footage was from ski movie 2,

i emailed getboards.com and they told me they had no idea what the oakley skis were- Starky

Everyone complains, not eveyone will ever liek the same movie. And not one film wil everl live up to everyones expectations CAUSE EVRYONE HAS DIFFERENT VIEWS AND OPINIONS. I havent seen it, but I am sure it is very very good. Stop the hate and materbate

as much as I liked forward, I liked 1242 a bit more.

1242 featured most of the best riders out there. thats what made it so good. I thought the music was pretty good. lots of 80's rock, some good hip hop, and none of that battle axe/swollen members crap. It all went really good with the editing, which was also quite amazing. a lot of peps shit was out of volume, but it was still a rediculous section. and seth, that section was a huge letdown form what msp gives him, but its what he got. overall its a really dope video.

and in the intro, when pep switches up on that ledge, why isnt it in his section?

I liked Tanner and Olsons edited parts in the bonus section better than their actual parts in the movie. JF Cussons extra stuff in the bonus section was pretty funny too.
