The offical "ask a U of U student a question" thread

Meh, i believe if you literally shit on it you wouldnt get in. Now if you got lower than an 18 on the act and have a gpa below 2.5 you wont get it.

bumpin this cause fuck er body else's threads, eheaths are the illest.

i could just call them but dont actually have a phone right now...

for incoming freshman are you required to live in the dorms first year? last school i went to was wack as shit like that. i cant handle living with people. i need to be by myself or with a very close friend/not an idiot so i can study. dont drink, dont party, just smoke and study and cant handle distractions. absolutely HATE dorm life. annoys the shit out of me.

also, from what i gathered out of this thread its about 28k a year? seriously? 70 grand for a bachelors degree?

Out of state tuition rates make going to college out of state....very unreasonable.

The increase in cost of out of state tuition could equate to many vacations.

Sure there isn't a wasatch blvd to take and consider what ski hill to go to today, but yeah I couldn't find any way to justify the costs of out of state tuition. I can do 2 years of college with 24-28k.

I hate the idea of living in dorms.. not that its even something i'd consider because i'm a junior now (not at UofU) and luckily I haven't had to.

and also i'm not saying you should live in dorms necessarily..

but check out this article

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/11/opinion/11dowd.html?src=me&ref=general

gives some very good opinions about the whole thing and totally worth the read. might make you reconsider choosing to live with a close friend or someone exactly like you. or hopefully it'll make you think about it a bit more.

good luck!

and also.. I totally agree that out of state tuition is totally absurd for a Bachelor's. Hopefully if you choose that path your parents are loaded or you have applied for financial aid and acquired some decent scholarships

that article didnt really teach me anything honestly. maybe if i was a 16 year old female it wouldve helped? ive been dealing with roommates since i was a sophmore in highschool cause ive been on my own since then. had many roommates in my other college, i get it, im over it. especially if im going to be paying 6 figures for a degree. fuck living with people. and fuck the disease ridden eating the food they say dorm structure. shit is not a very good environment for me regardless of social "lessons" learned.

puttin off school for another year it seams. definitely cant justify the dough it requires yet.

i meant just new students...

im changing majors/programs so yea i would be a freshman technically. some schools are just lame like that and require new kids to be in the dorms for a contracted first year. been to school for 2 years now though. made a lot of dumb economical decisions so far haha

its only like an hour to an hour and a half to keystone from denver in good weather with little traffic which is rare. it's not too bad tho

that's really shitty and i understand cause i've been in a similar situation and now I'm just taking more and more time off... which sucks cause I like school (better than a full time job anyways) i hope for your sake you don't have to live in a dorm.. cause like I said before I totally agree that it sucks. college apartment might not be as bad.. don't they usually just want you to live on campus?

anyways good luck!

Could you explain the grading system for me? in Norway its 1 is lowest, 6 is highest! aaaand, when i visited Breck and NY i dident see alot of hot girls..... Soo hows the girls at u of u?

there are tons of resort like places giving rides to PC.

But they charge a lot.....haha

Just carpool with a ns'er.

look at the valley when you move there, and you'll consider car pooling every day

i have nothing to add to the thread other then to say im stoked on all the new people coming to UT. When i first came out here 2 years ago for school I knew that eventually word would get out that UT is the sickest place on earth to live and im glad the word is getting out. see you all on the slopes!

bank of the west is a bank in Utah. You can open accounts from anywhere.

I did so to get $125 sign-on bonus.....

if what you need is a bank statement, and state id....

just move there, get a state id asap. and show them bank statements from bank of the west.

Is it harder to get in if your coming out of state. I have about a 3.3 right now going into my junior year, my extra ciriculars are decent. I haven't taken the ACT yet.

Yes. Just be sure to get an E parking pass or better. They WILL find your car, and they will fuck you so hard with tickets. You may think you can hide, but trust me - two years of going there with a car has taught me otherwise.

dude youre the dick that said i was gonna blow my knee and not be able to ski again...welp you were right about the first part but im still skiing douchebag

Just SATs is fine.
If you want to know about tuition just go to their site and look at the nice table they have. It's pretty simple. Yes, out-of-state sucks for the first year, but taking some of your classes at SLCC helps a lot with cost. And I even got residency tuition at SLCC when I took a couple classes there Spring semester. (When I was still technically out-of-state.)

The may seem like a weird question but is there a whole foods or another healthy-ish store near campus that i could get good gluten free food at? Also do you have to live in the dorms your freshman year?

Don't bomb the ACT, you'll get in. I had pretty shitty grades in high school (like a 2.5 GPA), didn't do a whole lot of extra-curriculars, but did good on the SAT, and got in fine.
