The NS Steeze Patrol...

I just want to express my concern regarding an attitude that seems to be spreading amongst the skiing community.

As soon as someone throws down a huge difficult trick, the "NS steeze patrol" comes out of the woodwork and shuts it down. For reference and example I'm talking about things like Jossi's switch double-cork 1440, Christian Bieri's switch double and triple frontflips, and Mike Wilson's various flips. They call it "arials" "Gay" etc. How is this sport ever going to progress if people don't push the limits? No shit, he's probably not going to get a grab when he is just learning the trick. Maybe you need to remember back to your first 360. I'm just going to assume you didn't put a tweaked blunt grab in there with it.

We can only push 5's and 7's so far. Single Grab... Tweaked Single Grab... Double Grab... what's next... triple grab... ... ...?

If guys like this don't push the limits, then in 2020 we'll still be seeing Kangaroo-fest in comps. I would love to see our sport really blow up with guys throwing their own unique tricks. Alot of semi-unknowns are out there too.

If you don't care for it, thats fine, thats your opinion. But don't shut these guys down and talk shit on them for trying to push our sport. They obviously love skiing, and are putting themselves at serious risk.

all about triple grabs. truckdriver blunt, same grab. its called the third trimester abortion, and its frowned upon by society.

yah man.... i think its great you wrote this post. Personally i would be afraid from the reaction of the other people but good job. I hope this might have some impact on the way people look at new crazy tricks.

good points. our sport should be progressing, but n your comps you should do your tricks with a good amount of style. throwing all those tricks you mentioned is way sick, but i think they should keep them out of comps and movies until they throw it with a fair amount of style

I agree with what you are saying, but I think if the trick is not possible to be done with a grab then it shouldn't be done, the switch tripple front could, so I think it is a good progression of freesking, a front to misty 7, will never have a grab in it, I switch front to misty 7 might, but for throwing it forward you need to use your arms and therefore can't grab, which I don't think is progressing our sport at all...

i agree with everything you said man. we shouldn't be criticizing pros for when they do new tricks that pretty much no one else can do. there pushing our sport farther and farther,

Haha.

That was a good post. Instead of making posts shutting down people when they do double flips and all that, we could post suggestions to what we think could make it better. Enough pros read this for it to make a big difference (Tanner Hall most recently).

I completly agree, even though a lot of those tricks dont love very steezy. especially simons front tuck full or whatever it is called

its all progression if we dident progress weed prob have no park and be skiing moguls and "carving air" with pencils steez as god fathers might of skid it, i think the progression is cool and what happens is what happens you cant  hold back progression every one has there on style and different tricks. no mater what you do not everyone will like it,

word, progression is key whether its learning to slide a box or learning doubles. progression just gets a bad rep from all the cocky fuckers that go out and just try to put another 180 on everybody elses spins, but when it comes down to it, they can't grab their spins (or very poorly) and got arms flailing everywhere yet they think they're pushing themselves harder than everyone else so and think they need to show it off and be bitches about it. I'm by no means great at skiing, but thats just what i see. just an opinion, nobody's gotta take it

uhhhh are you serious? this sport isn't moto-cross people... yes that's one direction that skiing could go towards to 'progress" but that's not the only way our sport has to go to gain momentum.... there's more potential for skiing to be better developed through style and variations of tricks, rather than just challenging gravity... ew

The only dubflip I ever criticized was the Simon Dumont Front-full twisting frontflip. It's a gymnastics move that looks really gay to me and progressive in the wrong way.

IMO doubles are freakin sick. i understand grabs and whatnot will come. i agree with thread creator but there has to be be a balance between the technicality of tricks and the style of them. its all about finding that balance. i think doubles are progressing the sport in the right direction.

ugh.

i dont agree.

i mean i agree that it should be done. someone has to land a switch triplet front at some point in time etc etc. but that is definitely not what the sport should be based on.

and i dont think we're really 'shutting' down these people. look at how much hate everyone got for throwing switch 10s at the US Open. did they stop throwing them? no. will they? no.

its just an internet forum

and its just skiing.

who knew it had to be so progressive and deathly serious.

i agree with this post, but i also dont care what NS says about new tricks because half of the kids on this site are gapers and new shit gives our sport more money.. get over it

I dont agree, i would much rather see a sick ass steezy 5 than a penciled out 9 IMO

fuck spin to win, anyone can throw a double backflip if they can actualy commit to it, but they def cant make it look steezy without practicing, i mean if your down with penciled out arials go for the big air stuff thats in the olympics, but in new school skiing i really think its way more about style and actualy making a trick look decent which is what makes it different from big air stuff like in the olympics etc. Dont get me wrong double corks are sick, its just like why do you really even want to try a triple or dub backflip they really dont even look that cool, just the fact that you flipped 2 or 3 times in the air is crazy.

Is Christian Bieri the guy who threw the switch triples, switch double fronts with superman? Those are so steezy

It's awesome when people throw down like mad, but i can't quite enjoy watching it as much if it doesn't look nice, it's impressive, but  i can't quite enjoy it without style
