Which image do you think is best for newschool skiing? Do you still want to have to explain to people how it is physically possible to do rails on skis? Or do u want old people on the lifts looking confused when they see a skier throw a corked 7 off a table in the "snowboard park", and wondering why your tails stick up? Would we be better off if skiing went mainstream? Or should the majority of little kids still see snowboarding as the cool thing for young people to do, and have us newschool skiiers smile as we keep our sport to ouselves.
 
i dont worry much about it either way, there is more skiers on the hill every year.

On a side note, Im an older guy (26) I grew up racing and got bored and quit skiing at 15, I got back into it at 22 when my buddy showed me the jumps and rails people were doing......so now I think that all the kids who are started into racing by their parents at a young age have things to do other than get bored with it. People graduate to newschool skiing.

either way is fine snowboarders are all starting to switch over to skiing at my hill its like 75% skiers and it will prolly be like 80% this winter
 
eh, we cant really prevent anything from happening. i dont want a bunch of poser faggots like snowboarding has but in a few years i doubt we can do anything about that. the other thing i dont want is to have to explain to people what i mean by freeskiing. but yeah well, i'll keep skiing no matter what, so what everyone else does, doestn really matter.
 
I want freeskiing to go mainstream. I'm sick of telling people I ski and them responding i snowboard its so much better, you can hit jumps and rails and stuff. Snowboarding is considered an extreme sport while skiing is considered just a sport. People dont realize that skiers do the same stuff and even more than snowboarders. Like that coke commercial where those snowboarders hit the urban rail. Y couldn't that b skiers, because the general public doesn't realize what skiers are capable of.

freeskiing is starting to come more mainstream with things like icier air and jams all over, that now include skiers. Hopefully skiing will eventually become surpass snowboarding as the extreme sport on snow.
 
i think that it would be better for skiing to remain in anonymity rather than become like snowboarding with most of the people doing the sport not being able to do a 360.
 
i think all you little jiblets need to be more "yo" and get some style. half of you look like you got something shoved up your asses...and you need to start dressing better. Look at Sean Petit...That kid is the jr. pimpernickel of the industry...and hes only 12! best part is he doesnt have any attitude.
 
last yeah it took me an hour almost to explain my twin tips to my grandpa and and the end of the conversation he was like "so i got an old pair of skis you can have, they should fit you" and then i walked out of my house and went skiing
 
As long as you have twin-tips, support the scene and respect for people at the park your fine.
 
May I ask how grown up your actions were when you threw your little temper tantrum, because the NS mods never called you back? I am sorry I may have been out when you were "civilized" and acting like an adult. ("ACTING" being the key word)

So I am a "whiny little bitch?" Funny I am not the one pissing and moaning about a site not showing advertisements for my website, which is so great I bet. Come on, snowcoupons.com that is a very original idea cheaper lift tickets, you can't get those anywhere else. Oh wait, you can, through travel agents, buying multiple day passes. Do you even need to print out these coupons and bring them to the resort, or are they just deals the resort has for people?

So what am I getting at with the rant? Some of you may be asking this, where others just let this faid in to the black archives of NS. My main point is that: It is my feeling that thatoneguyattyrol does not really have the right to call himself an adult, because of the actions listed about. Now I am not saying I am an adult, most of you can tell by my icon, but he does not have the right to be called an adult.

So thatoneguyattyrol please, for the both of us act your age.
 
first off, that thread was one hundred percent called for when threads of mine and others are getting pulled for no reason whatsoever and threads with threats and racism stay and accumulate hate.

second, what you dont realize because you werent involved (yet somehow are trying to be, ass kisser) is I sent my complaints directly to bishop in a respectful fashion, only to recieve childish replies and implied threats. Dont talk about what you dont know.....

third....look around, my posts are generally relevant which is rare around here. Go waste your time harassing one of the truly childish that go around calling people gay and faggot. That thread was an experiment, and it did get deleted before the ones with racist comments.....whats even better is all the private messages I got in support of that thread.

In the mid 80's when I started working in a ski shop we picked up Burton, Kemper ans Sims snowboards. Customers looked at us confused and thought that we were pushing backyard toys! Many areas wouldn't allow snowboarding then cuz they simply didn't understand it. It was also commonplace to have your ticket clipped for JUMPING back then due to all the law suits that were bringing down the sport!

Twins were around in the 70's and people were skiing Olin MarkIV and K2 Cheeseburgers when I was a kid. The "Hottdoggers" from back then are still around in the ski industry today. Guys like Wayne Wong, Deno Dudunake and George Askevold to name a few.

Freestyle snowboarding paved the way for twins to come back! You gotta respect the snowboard business for re-vitalizing the youth of the wintersports by demanding 1/2 pipes and parks. Now everyonr gets to play.

Twins are just a shape. In the next couple years you're going to see MANY twin skis being skiied by adults who will never enter a park. Why? Because the major companies know damn well that it's a cool look and their going to pursue every possible angle toward selling more skis. An example on the wall today is Salomon's entire 1080 series (Gun, Foil, Thruster etc...) these are actually all-mountain skis now. I have 40 year old guys riding Armada ARV's at Sugarbush and Jay just for the width factor alone. And the list goes on!

Bottom line is: "Newschool is already mainstream. Your parents just don't know it yet. And snowboarding is jealous."

All i did was read the first sentence and here is what I have to say. Fuck Image. Stop worrying about shit that doesn't matter and go skiing. There are some wierd fucking kids on this site talking about some gay ass shit.
 
the snowboarders can be proud of there past, it is harder for skiiers because we are trying to make somthing different from the racing moguls, ect.
 
I think skiing needs to go MORE mainstream. It would be tons mroe money for our industry, and it would help keep pros around. There are cases of pro skiers who were pushing our sport leaving to pursue others jobs because the money isn't enough to live off. It would be much better if there were a ton of money in the industry to keep everyone around, and to help push teh industry to devolpe new technologies to make the sport even better.
 
does anyone agree with me that it would help to get park features designed for skiers or everyone, instead of the old school mentality of some places that think they are designing a "snowboard park".

summit, last year living in summit county i was a lot of gapers riding twins on groomers. Old gapers mind you, I asked some of them on the chair how they liked their skis and they said "because the guy at the shop said we could ski backwards"

now thats evolution.

I just cant wait untill skis become a pure fashon status symbol, where their useless function of sliding on snow will be eliminated. Then they will become the ultimate accessory, overtaking rindsotne cellphones and lapdog purses...that will be the day

i like it underground...i actually love it undergroud, but obviously thats not going to happen, and then the ego in me is like, wow, tonnes of gapers would be sssweet...cause id aactually be good then
 
productive. ha. the more mainstream, the longer you get to wait in the lift line. longer wait is less runs. less runs due to waiting...not what i go ski for. how bout you?
 
i like skiing the way it is i dont want it to get like snowboarding where its the cool thing to do and like millions of asain tourists try it i want it to stay like it is
 
I don't know about where you ski, but where I ski, the lines are fucking long anyways, with all the 'non newschool' skiers. Bringing more kids to the park would mean nothing in terms of the volume of skiers. Sure it would congest the park more, but if it went more mainstream, resorts would cater more to us with more options. I've already seen ti happening at the resorts I ski at, every year they add a little more terrain for us.
 
i want it to get bigger but not as big as skateboarding or snowboarding, but like skateboarding about 5 or 6 years ago, when not many people skated but everyone thought it was cool and they all knew about it.
 
i just hope that we arent like what snowboarding is now in ten years. its never good to sit on a downwards branch. and if i was snowboarding these days, i would switch as fast as you can say 'skiing' to skiing.

in my area, everyone knows that freeskiing exists, most dont do it but you get huge respect for any shvt.

as is said, no problem where skiing is going, but i hope its not going down like snowboarding did. i mean so much sbs switched these days.
 
sking is gone mainstream....lok i bet there will be soo mnay posers ont he hill this year,i started tseeing them emerge last yera..it was gay. but if you go to shitty small mtns, its more unlikely that you will see poser sksiers...because none there knows skiing is cool yet.
 
I like skiing the way it is. The last thing I would want is for it to turn into skateboarding. Sure, I've got respect for skateboarding itself because its cool and all, but insane amount of how mainstream it is can really be a bummer sometimes.
 
curiously where do you ski? the interesting thing about park is that we are seperated from the mainstream for the most part.

Keystone is a great example, on a weekend the lift lines are crazy, but if you get to the park you wont wait in line for even two minutes.
