So here is my take on the BBR's. I had the opportunity to ski both the 8.9 and the 7.9 and didn't like either one, but that is not to say they are bad skis, they are just not designed for me or the majority of skiers that are here on newschoolers. The guy who designed the BBR also shaped the Pocket Rocket which we all know changed a lot of people's opinion on how wider skis can and should perform. So when I tested these skis I was with my Dad and a few of his friends, the typical 55-60 year old, old guy skiers. They are all very competent skiers but only get out 10-15 days a year now and no longer ski super hard. All four of them really enjoyed the BBR 8.9 which is the sidewall, wider, and stiffer version. The low and slow rocker make them very easy to turn and with a tight radius it takes little to no effort to get the thing carving. The rocker profile combined with the tight pintail makes the ski plane up without having to carry much speed so it allows the ski to feel very in control off piste as well. the BBR 8.9 is defiantly a directional ski and not meant for hard charging, high speed skiing but rather mid speed skiing for a solid advanced skier. The BBR 7.9 has many similar features with a slightly different shape and is full cap making it more forgiving and easier to ski, notching it down to the intermediate cruiser type ski but offers that level of skier more comfort when the snow pack break up towards the end of the day. So all said and done the BBR 8.9 is a very nice ski and a unique shape as long as it fits the type of skiing you like to do.
