The New Official XC Thread!

CHEYAAAAA! HOW'D YOU GUYS DO? I THINK YOU WERE IN THE RACE AFTER MINE. WE WERE IN VARSITY AA UNSEEDED OR SOMETHING

we won the JV and came in 3rd for varsity. i didnt do that well personally thoughhowd you do?

MY RACE WAS DECENT, 49TH AND 18:01. TEAM WAS 6TH. TIMES WERE SOOOO SLOW.

ONE OF OUR GIRLS WAS 1ST IN HER RACE

16:58 is my 5k Pr by the way. hope to get high 15s for my 3 mile at districts. I dont like the long distances though, Im more of a middle distance guy. Track FTW!

i know i shouldve been way faster. and thats sweet bro.

one of our guys was first in the JV race and one of our girls won the varsity race

My PR is 19:26, tryin to get under 18 so bad. one of my problems is that i never cramp at practice but i do in meets? is it a mental thing cause i think i eat pretty healthy. or maybe its cause i go way to hard in the beginning?

drink a lot before the race and everything will be ok!

but seriously, maybe you don't breathe correctly?

in secondary 4 i finished 4rth of my whole school and i was 5'5

CRAMPS CAN BE CAUSED BY CHANGING SPEEDS TOO MUCH, ALSO NEVER EAT APPLES ON A RACE DAY.

IF YOU WANT TO GET RID OF A CRAMP, PUSH ON IT WITH YOUR THUMB OR FINGERS (DEPENDING ON WHERE IT IS). DEEP BREATHING AND STRETCHING YOUR ABS WILL ALSO HELP A LOT, SHALLOW BREATHS WILL GIVE YOU A CRAMP EVERY TIME.

AND SOME PEOPLE SAY ITS A MYTH BUT IT ALWAYS WORKS FOR ME, BUT SIT UPS WILL HELP PREVENT CRAMPS. WHEN I DO HILL/LOOP WORKOUTS I DO SIT UPS BETWEEN EACH ONE AND IT MAKES MY CRAMPS GO AWAY.

HOPE THAT HELPS.

AND TO ADD TO WHAT THE GUY ABOVE ME SAID, DRINK A SHIT TON OF WATER ALL DAY LONG.

YOU SHOULD BE PISSING EVERY 20 OR SO MINUTES. I DRINK 1L OF WATER FOR EVERY KM I RACE.

BUT NEVER DRINK 30MINS BEFORE YOU RUN, AS THAT WILL CAUSE CRAMPS.

well my coach tells me over drinking causes cramps and he was indeed right (atleast for me), learned my lesson with apples freshman year, and yes the hole massage the cramp thing does work but it took me 5 tries before it left.

You aren't alone. The same thing happened to me, I ran really good in middle school and my freshman year and now I'm a little better than average. I agree with you, it really does suck especailly seeing people you used to beat all the time in a race that are now beating you.

EAT BANANAS! Seriously its a religion on my team, eat a banana like an hour before your race and pray to the Nanner gods, you'll never have a cramp. The praying part is important

I had my first race since like grade 7 (grade 11 now) last wednesday, 5k i think and they made us run on fucking grass the whole time. Didn't do really at all how i thought i might do, kinda disappointed but i guess thats what happen when you dont really train. I'm definatly going to try all the cramp tricks, right now im kind of a noob at XC, what is PR? Next time i run a 5k im going to time it but that race was my first 5k without stopping i think and it was completely brutal. Next race on Thurs. apparently a super hard course but looking forward to at least doing it, just wish i was as good as i was in grade 7...

Hmm, i always thought at least where i live it would be courses through forests, on gravel/paved/dirt roads and stuff. Not entire races on grass fields. I guess i will see come next few races

WHERE I AM ITS USUALLY ABOUT 60% GRASS, 30% DIRT PATHS AND 10% GRAVEL/PAVED.

I HATE PAVEMENT SO FUCKING BAD IN SPIKES. EVERYBODY SOUNDS LIKE A PACK OF HORSES AND IM AFRAID OF SLIPPING.

WE DO ONE COURSE THAT HAS A BUNCH OF WOOD BRIDGES, NOW THAT SHIT IS AWESOME.

our home course is literally 25% grass 25% pavement 25% gravel 25% trail

it sucks because its just like an everchanging surface

not to mention it dulls your spikes so bad, i entered a 2 mile with quarter inch spikes and left with nubs

Not me, but my school is hosting BURNT HILLS INVITATIONAL on saturday in Saratoga, Ny. Just seein if anyone is going, its kinda big

yay xc threads.. 18:46.. i have some room to improve though.. i normally stop running in the winter for obvious reasons.

MY CONFERENCE FINALS ARE TOMORROW. I WANT TOP 10 AND IM REALLY FUCKING NERVOUS. JUST HAD TO POST IT SOMEWHERE.

NOW FOR SOME USEFUL INFORMATION:

EJACULATE THE NIGHT BEFORE RACES. HEARD SOME STUFF ON THE RADIO ABOUT IT, I'VE ALWAYS DONE IT BUT APPERANTLY IT GIVES YOU THE EYE OF THE TIGER OR SOMETHING.

Mine are this Tuesday, 7k. I'm not that great hoping to run flat 4 all the way through, but I just truly want to go to OFSAA it's in fuckin Ottawa, so I have to beat the normal 5th place guy who runs 26:30-27. Nervous as hell.

How'd you do?

You gotta run in the winter to stay inshape. And I'm super sad, soon I will be running my last high school xc race :'(

I ENDED UP 8TH. 25:01.

WE HAVE A CHANCE AT OFSAA TOO, WE HAVE 2 KIDS COMING BACK FROM INJURIED. BUT OUR ONE KID RAN HIS FIRST RACE ALL SEASON ON THURSDAY AND CAME 1ST IN 22:39 OR SOMETHING.

IM GONNA BE SAD IF WE DONT MAKE IT, BUT I MIGHT GO ANYWAYS JUST TO WATCH. OUR TEAM WILL GET SUPREME BUTTRAPED ANYWAYS.

GOOD LUCK YO!

i just finished up my senior year of cross country my pr was around 24 minutes im not that great but seriously running in the cold rain is the best.

25:01 is unreal dude considering you're in grade 11 right? I could probably only keep that pace for a kilometer. That's what the top runner at my school is running. And 8th place? Man you must have some tough competition, with a time of like 28 minutes I'll be expecting top 25.

Wouldn't you know if you qualify for OFSAA already though? At our regionals, "GHAC", the top 2 teams qualify for OFSAA and you generally know once you're 4th guy crosses if you made it or not. Kind of want to make it in the Top 5 for the experience though, going to be awesome this year it's in Ottawa. Pretty much everyone will get butt-raped. A guy that was in our last meat, Xavier King, will probably come 1st or 2nd running a 21:30 7k.

THANKS MAN.

AND WE JUST HAD "TVRAA" WHICH IS ONLY THE SCHOOLS IN LONDON, BUT ON THURSDAY WE HAVE WOSSAA WHICH IS LONDON AND ALL THE SCHOOLS WITHIN LIKE AN HOUR.

THE TEAM FROM STRATHROY HAS 1ST IN THE BAG PRETTY MUCH. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF IF WE CAN DISPLACE THE RUNNERS ENOUGH FROM THIS OTHER SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY'RE ALWAYS REALLY TIGHT.

AND I DOUBT IT WILL HAPPEN IN SENIOR BUT THE LAST 2 YEARS IVE QUALIFIED FOR OFSAA INDIVIDUALLY, ITS ALWAYS THE HIGH POINT OF MY SEASON.

DO YOU ONLY HAVE 1 QUALIFIER RACE THEN?>

So I'm guessing you need to place top 3 individually as well?

Our GHAC is the only qualifier for OFSAA in our region (Oakville, Milton, Burlington, Hamilton), and our school pretty much wins every year there's not much hard competition in the way of teams.

At least you have one more year to improve, although I hope you guys make it I wouldn't want to miss Ottawa this year it's gonna be sick.

NEXT YEAR IM HOPING FOR OUR TEAM TO WIN OFSAA, WE GOT ROBBED LAST YEAR, AND OUR GRADE 10S THIS YEAR ARE STACKED.

WHERES YOUR GHAC?

Our GHAC is in Christi Conservation in Milton area. Relatively flat only 2 medium hills so I'm hoping to get a decent time but most importantly beat the 5th place guy.

Winning OFSAA is actually deezed. Before I joined XC I thought our school was sick, 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th in GHAC. But then I later find our best runner placed 100+ in OFSAA.

I wish I would have joined XC earlier though, only joined this year to stay in shape for soccer season, and I actually enjoyed myself.

just had our last race of the season, a 1600 time trial, and i went sub 5 minutes for the first time, 4:58.6. feelsgoodman
