There is something wrong with America that has never before appeared in history. A praisable paper on it is today's philospher's stone. That is, the very problem inhibits those who were raised in it to identify its malfuction. The Liberals (me, and everybody who's anti-administration right now) know of it, but not enough information about it to produce a presentable hypothosis. The Conservatives (SUpilot) stick to their rational, if not unemotionally mathimatically sound sense of security found in the rightousness of what we find our society doing.

If that make any sense, please say so, because its so very late and thats either the most brilliant thing I've ever written or its absolute psuedo-intellect-Ineedacausetodedicatemylifeto philo-babble-BULLSHIT! Please tell me. And good night to all ya'll.

Note: please keep this thread on track. I belive there is a major glitch in the programing Western communication, descourse, and discusion in recent generations. Maybe its the tiredness or maybe this really is our Black Death.

Peace.

And one more thing: chekichekichekichekichekiout!!! 2222 posts, phatt to the Timith degree ya'll.

Ok, let me try to get this straight...

So what you're trying to say is, Western Civilization has a problem with not being able to see a problem with wha we do? Therefore, we are unable to change what we are doing wrong?

there is a point in there somewhere even though it is a little verbose.

the best way to convey an idea is to use the simplest language possible. big words don't create big ideas....

some cougar at jozo's-

'what do i have to do to get your friend to come home with me'

so wouldn't it be a self-fulfilling prophecy?

also, i'm pretty sure this type of situation has previously been encountered; definitely by humankind, if not the US. before the US involvement in vietnam, it seemed as if the general public, as well as the people in power were on the track to a more social democratic existence.. but then RFK was assassinated, and lyndon johnson decided to invade vietnam, and that all went to hell.. i dunno, does anybody aggree?

no offense but I think that was all just psycho babble and you strung a buncha big words together. Maybe I just didn't comprehend it on the level you expected........

'A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.'

Proverbs 29:11

There is beauty and great strength in simplicity. Why? Because it mirrors the ultimate simplicity of the singular Being in which all multiplicity inheres. To be simple requires insight and humility. Insight allows one to recognize unnecessary complexity in one's character and life. Humility allows one to boldly choose simplicity and do away with gratuitous complexity even when that choice makes one look witless or complicated in the eyes of people entangled in their own ignorance and complexity. -George feurerstin

using hyperbole exagerated thought doesnt push an idea like you would want it to. if anything, it keeps it from the common man, that's who you want to bring it to, because the people who would understand what you just said would already know that. by the way. i'm conservative.

by the way, i'm still trying to figure out how trying to istill morality into people will bring about death and destruction. and how killing babies, giving out handouts to people not willing to work, etc... will bring about utopia.

I think that Tim is right (Tim's always right), and Kevin a doshe-bag, and gravtech is the rightest of dem all.

But, the point of forums is discussion, so, here goes. Keep in mind that my first post was a rant; so by its nature its unstructured. And, is there a lack of public discourse? Yes. An interesting side effect of the consumer culture that we live in is that we approch media with that same ''Must-Consuuuuume'' mentality. In the age of show-buisness, we, the public, do not create enough to define our personalities in a way that can reflect packaged personalities of our society's idols. Those uniform public idols are of course the movie and music stars, of whom there are a wide enough scope to satisfy most people. The happy conformists are content merely to consume that which is most readily available; Britany Spears, N'Sync, you know the list. The non-linear conformists who hate Britany Spears can enjoy Avril Lavigne, you know what I'm saying? What the hell kind of deviation is that? And what does it mean when a nation forgets its artists, writers, and prophets? Sure, the masses have never not been philistines, but never before have they been so large in number, so wealthy and never has their power been so far reaching. It seems like continents starve for America's shallow pursuits. While we have not degressed, we have not progressed at a level that fulfills our obligations to humanity, because we have suffered much to get where we are and if we continue to be content with the orgy-porgy (night-clubs), soma (junk food), and the feelies (prime-time TV). And while gravtech's proverb is true, don't mis-interpret it and let it limit your desire to create. Through creation, we can discover much about ourselves, and can shed the illusions of what celebrity we think we most closely resemble and try to copy to attain their life. Gravtech, if I had not made this thread, and spoke in such a foolish manner than I would not have learned I am a fool. And because of that, I am the wiser. But, only in knowing I'm a fool. To create, to preach all the wisdom that you have learned, to rant on end about your highness above everybody else, is foolish. But to create to discover yourself, then that is essential. Just keep in mind that this isn't an article, its a forum, and I'm just trying to provoke conversation. Or, at least thats my excuse for sounding like a snobby fool. I'm simply too afraid, to shocked by the truth in Adous Huxley's Brave New World the let fear get in the way of knowledge.

TAK, you're right, there's tons of other sayings about the fool becoming the wiser, and shit like that, I might voice my own opinion on status symbols tomorrow or something.

I completely see what you're saying. I think it has more to do with conditioning than it does with simply giving people information. People do not like change. Once they are conditioned to live a certain way they will continue - you ask them why they buy certain things and they won't always be able to give you an answer. It's in the hands of the youth, everyone else is stuck. If it wasn't for nirvana and pearl jam in my youth I'd be listening to the new kids on the block - just as the kids now are grwoing up and still continaing themselves to 'pop' because that is the music they know and love. your whole youth is spent taking in the world and learning not to ask questions (preparing you for the workplace) so how can you then ask someone to stand up and think differently.

In an oddly related story. My aunt's fence fell down - all except the parts where the gate is. The dogs wouldn't actually walk away because the gate was closed and that's the only way they knew to get out. The youngest dog was the only one that figured out that the gate was never fully shut. and they started to run away. then when they came back and the gate was closed the youngest one again found that if they weren't wearing their heavy shock collars (which they almost never were) they could just walk out of the backyard.

If that makes as much sense to you as it does to me then you'll see what I'm saying, as humans we become conditioned, whether it be to wealth, consumerism, poverty, inprisonment (shawshank redemption). The people that will accept something new are few and far between.

and tak I like this saying 'Self Proclaimed Genius is an oxy-moron.'

-Mike

'Isn't 14 legal for everyone?' - Dave Pauls

Tak, , now I completely understand and see what you mean. And Mike, truly true...

WE as humans are conditioned to the american way of life, and we even go as far as turning our heads to strife around the world in order to stay happy with our stable lifestyle.

This topic has even been touched upon in the movie S.L.C. Punk.

It is perfectly evident when Steve-o turns his head about the kid who had to turn into a begger because the lifestyle. And instead of accepting the truth, he turns his head because it hurts to see change and difference.

I like Mike's story. Its funny. Add to that angst by those deviants for being hated for not conforming and their ability to love while trying to stand strong is comprimised. Three things: love, truth, and humanity. Without one or more of these missing due to other's restrictive lifestyle you get bad shit. And selfish opinions that restrict understanding in issues such as the role of Welfare. Ah, maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic, but its better than being just hopeless.

All ya'll should check out Bertrand Roussel's (sp?) Three Passions. A short, concise, and neccisary read. Peaceness ya'll.
