The Most Amazing Moments In Skiing Thread

mine would have to be when me and some homies tried our first 2 pretz 2s. couldn't do it for the whole day. Finally all 3 of us got it last run of the day. was such a cool feeling. also when I made the whole mountain my playground for the first time.

First big cliff stomp, first backflip for me in terms of stoke level. I do remember one particular hit though

Greentexting because fuck you I just like writing stories that way

>at mineral basin Snowbird

>having a sober morning and just enjoying my fresh groomer laps for now

>had 2 laps, fully warmed up, starting to get a little crowded

>going down my usual groomers at close to mach dummy

>there's a hit on the right side of mineral in the middle of the groomers which is like a giant roller with a massive dropoff on the other side called the liftie classic

>hit it twice and I know the landings good but haven't really taken it that big yet

It's the hit at 3:08 in this vid

>anyway, just coming flying into this, probably faster than I've ever had because I waxed my skis

>concerned there might be people on the other side now

>one old guy standing on the lip

>out of desperation give him a thumbs up along with a shrug, as if I'm asking, "am I clear?"

>He looks over for a second, looks back at me and yells, "You're good!" while giving me a double thumbs up

>Boost it to the fucking moon and land bolts, not backseat

>ski the rest of the way down

>never see that older guy again, but it really is a special moment to have a complete stranger know exactly what you mean and do that for you

I was skiing, I was killing it, I wanted to show my mom how awesome I was. I did another run. It was an east coast pow day. I tucked down the little hill. I caught my tips and double ejected and became very cold and snowy. Still an amazing moment though.

I love seeing the learn to ski programs out there. Getting in as a kid is what got me hooked. If I hadn't grown up in the northeast the chances of getting into skiing would have dropped by a ton. It's unfortunate how expensive it is some places. Shout out to all the mountains with the homie deals, the places that work with local schools, all the places that sell and rent used gear for stupidly cheap, all the people that hook somebody up with their old gear to get somebody out shredding. That's what the fuck it's all about!

good shit bro

Skied all day solo going fast and jumping off everything I could. End of the day I was in the parking lot loading my gear when a family walked by and recognized me from being on the hill. The mother complimented me on my skiing and said they enjoyed watching me while they were on the lift. Made my day but what really got me stoked is when the little ones asked if I was a pro. Granted this was many years back and I was rocking my Line Darksides which made me think I was pretty cool.lol To this day I try and make an effort to compliment someone on their skiing when I can. Keeping the stoke alive!!

Too many for me. The moments that stick out for me are the ones that I worked hard, failed and kept trying until I got them.

Stomping my first backflip off a cliff last year made me laugh and smile for a whole week. The range of emotions from confidence to anxiety, from fear to focus… once it was sent, it was pure happiness. Going through each emotion before and after sending was quite an experience.

Winning my first freeride event was quite a moment for me. I competed in that event for 6 years straight. I finished last my first year. Through trial and error, each year I did slightly better, then I won it!

1st day out skiing whitewater. It was november 11 and the pow was waist deep. Coming from the east coast, Ive never seen snow that deep in my life; especially first day of the season. That day had such an impact on me.

First time I landed a cork 7 was a day that changed everything in my skiing. It was a trick I had been trying to land for 10 years. Over that time, I got hurt almost every time I tried. I was going to give up trying that year on trying to land it. But on that evening, I was skiing with a buddy and I was steadily landing 720s with various grabs. On the final jump, I threw the 7, but looked down at the lip and ended up landing my holy grail.

these are all events burned into my mind. Im so glad I had cameras to record these events so I could never forget these moments and the conditions surrounding them.

Gotta be when I finally learned to hockey stop when I was like 8. Complete game changer, took me a solid season to finally realize how to do it and completely became obsessed with skiing after that.

LOL so your best memory is hitting a small groomer roller with an old man standing near it? WOWWWWWWWWWWWW

That's like reading about an incel whose best time with a woman was when he spied on a woman's house and jerked it to her changing in her bedroom. Fucking pathetic.

Probably the day I skipped out on work to hit a pow day with my friend/ coworker. At Sierra, snowed about a foot or so overnight. Normally I ski with my friends who aren't very good, and as a result, I'm not very good, but my coworker was a rare instance (for me) of skiing with someone better than me. I love tree skiing at Sierra but in the past I've not been good enough to hit a real flow state, like it's totally effortless. BUT.. with my friend who's been skiing the trees his whole life basically, I told him where the good spots were, he made the lines and I just followed. We didn't hit a groomer all day, didn't need to. Just an entire day of skiing fresh powder in the trees. It was like, all the times falling in powder, struggling in the trees and scared to take a line... Turned into effortlessness and bliss on this amazing day.

for me so far its gotta be when your just lapping fast by yourself and have a perfect line down with all the side hits amd weaving thru the trees. when its completely effortless and you just pop of everything

for me that sorta state is the best feeling other than stomping new tricks

My favorite ski memory is when [tag=1388]@skierman[/tag] ’s mom gave me top on the chairlift, wasn’t a long ride but damn she was efficient!

Smokin big doinks in Amish w/ Tanner Hall, right before he got redemption on Chads gap and they blew it up

I know that on newschoolers we like to be haters sometimes but come on man this is just lame. Bigpurpleskisuit definitely has more fun skiing that you do

Was also pretty sick watching Karl show up mid day on a tour with his lady.. Hit that thing blind

Some top ones:

1. Getting 2nd in the ski school staff rail jam my first year in Tahoe. I had a real big chip on my shoulder being from the southeast and feeling like I had to prove I could keep up. But tying into that - the Thursday’s spent in the park with all my buddies from ski school that first year.

2. 4 ft of powder in 2 days at Purgatory. My roommate and I had decided to go that weekend and it was a total coincidence. Driest snow of my life.

3. Skiing the trees of Ruka under the lights with my wife over Christmas on a powder day.

4. Skiing a cycle that came in and dumped on Charlotte pass for about a week. I tried to get away with teaching as few ski lessons as possible that week. It was amazing. I lapped the T Bar and Poma non-stop. Didn’t even stop for lunch. I’ve never frothed that hard on powder before.

Landing my first 360. It was in my backyard of a small jump. It felt awesome I was so scared and I didn’t tell anyone and just sent it. All I saw was black but once I landed and came to I was so excited.

The good ol' "first 360 blackout" ... Classic as ever. I bet that shit was helicoptered to the max, just like mine

Heckling from the chairlift and then watching someone do a big send.

Getting heckled from the chairlift and getting psyched up to do a big send.

Finding a shack on your own.

Sharing a bowl with a crusty old local and shooting the shit on the chair.

Landing my first 2p2.

I remember when I started skiing park the idea of doing that trick seemed completely impossible. Then one day I just went for it and got it in under 5 tries, really made me realize how far I've progressed.

Hot lapping the tram at Jackson Hole on a sunny & slushy day is up there too for sure. I don't think I waited in the tram line for more than like 15min at a time that day. One lap I met these 2 Czech girls on the tram who called the line honeybadgers I was riding "clown skis" lol.

sleeper days when you go up with minimal expectations and they turn out to be your favorite days of the year, whether it's because of conditions, people, learning new tricks, or just having a good day

and also staying up on hood until sunset, literally anywhere on the mountain west of timberline. especially skiing back down from illumination in barely icy corn :))))) everything purple

I've been lucky enough to have a fair number of backcountry days where it looks like everything is shaping up to be a bust. The snow is variable on most aspects, I've spent all day skinning up icy crap or breaking trail in a wind slab, and I'm not optimistic about the line. But when I get to the top, there's no other tracks. And, when I drop in, and drop my hip into that first turn and realize that we read the weather right, and the snow in the line is still deep and protected, and we're about to get 3000' of face shots back down to the car. That's it. That's my favorite moment in skiing. All the worry and anticipation and stress of hoping the line will be safe, hoping the snow will be ok, it all fades away and it's suddenly all about enjoying the next few moments as much as you possibly can.

Favourite moment was a couple years ago when I slid my first box.

Spent the previous year trying and slipping out all the time, was super bummed when the season ended.

Thought about sliding a box the whole summer and on my first day back I felt confident and did it first try.

Ran into the lodge and dragged my dad up to the box I was hiking to film me do it

heres that clip

From that day on I became obsessed with park skiing

My other favourite moment would be the first day of the year after. Hiking a tube with my brother, learning swaps and 2s out, teaching this other kid how to slide a rail.

here’s a front 2 from that day

2019-2020 was super fun. One of the big highlights was sneaking up to alta before the road closed for a few hours. Minimal crowds and waist-deep turns all over. Got to follow my old ski buddy from HS and some others around all day skiing really fun shit and being exhausted.

Last year wasn't the best season overall but I got to ski with my best bud again after he had a near-death injury on his dirtbike. It took him a while to rehab and he needed to re-learn lots of functions, but he re-habbed like a champ kinda like CR did and it skiing with him was the best. Tons of good times. It also helped us forget about all the COVID crazyness

Haha one of the best memories I have was when I was just skiing down the hill and literally double ejected under the lift... this dude yells "YARDDDDSALEEEE!!". It made my day, no fear of messing up infront again after that.

hauling absolute ass under the lift on a pow day, see one ditch and ollie over, but didn’t see the ditch right after it. got my tips over the edge but double ejected, scorpioned, and deep throated a solid 8” of pow. when i get up everyone on the lift is going wild and i gave em a cheer back

story 2: hauling ass (again) down a groomer with the boys and all of us are skiing spread eagle as fast as we can since it’s under the lift (also again). stood up too quick, skis bounce off each other, i catch an edge, both skis pop off, and i slide on my back like a turtle for a solid 25 yards. ended up pulling my back from it but when my friends ski up asking if i’m alright i just haven’t moved since i stopped because i’m cracking up so hard

I was skiing along hitting all the side hits and I think I did a nose butter 3 or something and then I herd someone say something about me when I passed them. I'm hard of hearing so I thought the they were complaining about how I was skiing. When I got to the bottom and was waiting in the lift line I saw the same person that I had overheard. He skied into line behind me and started talking to me about how I looked like a good skier and how he wanted his son to watch me. I told him that I had thought he was complaining about my skiing and how I am hard of hearing and he understood. Then I rode up the chair with the father and son and the father told his son to watch me next run. They then watched me and I taught the little kid how to do a 180.

Haha so wholesome

The time I got addicted to Advil and became invincible for a short period of time, my only weakness was the crippling after bang……. anyone got any Advil?

Sick as fuck

Skiing keystone on a trip out there with just me and my best friend, towards the end of the day we're cruising some groomers when I revert to switch to have some fun. I look around and there is absolutely nobody else on this run. I switch carve past a yellowjacket who rips his head around me and im fuckin gone. Sun was setting, perfect day, will never forget this.

Me n my good homie were ripping n chasing each other through some crud all day at blackjack in Michigan. About halfway through the day we hear a yeehaw from the chairlift. Later we were packing up in the parking lot and some old timer told us it was a joy to watch us charging and he couldn’t help but give us a hell yea. That whole day was just pure stoke
