The Mistery of J. Olsson

I just watched again the videos from the slopestyle finals of the X-Games on EXPN's site and I realised of the mistery of J. Olsson...

How is it possible that he never wins this major comps? more exactly, how is it possible that tanner and gagnier beated him on the X? I love Tanner's style, and Gagnier skis really well and spins both ways perfectly... maybe it's me, But Jon's run is just A LOT better, so smooth, perfect tricks, perfect landings, perfect style, the only think he doesn't stomps is the first flat-down box, but then he does a PERFECT 270 on the rail, and then he just stomps everything, While tanner doesn't stomp the 450 on 270 off and then he doesn't do as good as jon in the jumps (at the bottom one he puts his hands down on a s10 a lot worse than jon's). ...

I'm not an olsson's fan, I just think that if you watch those 3 runs, he should win and he never does...

so what does that have to do with "the mistery of j. olsson?"

Everybody gets one chance to do something great. Most people never take the chance, either because they're too scared, or they don't recognize it when it spits on their shoes.

thats the mistery... he never wins and he should... Wasn't that clear enough? (due to my english level) or you r just dumb?

first of all "mistery" means "a trade". There is no "MYSTERY" behind Jon not winning X-games. It's called shitty judging criteria

We pay our debt sometimes.

ill tell you why, he constantly skis in his comfort zone in competitions. its like hes on a photo shoot or sumthing. if he expects to win he must try sumthing harder, the guy never falls. in superpipe he threw the EXACT same run 3 times and was dissapointed every time at his score, time to step it up go high or try a 10 or sumthing, go for it, save the perfect landings for the movies, thats what everyone else does

176cm of freedom on my feet

And also he never complains about judges... I think tanner is the best skier nowadays, but we all know that when he doesn't win he always complains! and when he gets to the end of a run he always celebrates like he has just done the best run of skiing history (when sometimes it is, and sometimes is just a normal run, I guess he does it to put pressure on the judges), while Jon gets to the bottom and never overreacts, and I have not heard anything about him complaining about judges (when he has reasons! I would If I were him)...

i just think that judges dont really like his style as much, because i sure dont like it as much. it is so wierd

I agree that if he stomps everything probably means that he could try something harder and push it a little bit more, but he does big tricks, but he looks so comfortable that they don't look as impressive as the same tricks done by other skiers. Just pay attention to what the speakers say and how they say it when Tanner or Charles do the final s10 and qhen he does it... while the best of 3 10s is clearly Jon's... maybe cause it looks so easy for him, they dont value that it as much cause they think he could do more.

i agree with the comfort level thing , he never looks like hes trying , i think judges want someone goin for it all the time and really putting it out there

'i just rented good will hunting , how is it?'

'lets put it this way, even matt damon cant make it suck.'

'matt damon? hes in con air right?'

'yes , yes he is.'

thats his style though, he makes everything look efforless. his style is being comfortable with what he's doing...and after all hes been competeing in all the big events for 7 years or so, so hes used to it already.

i have always thought that jon should have taken gold at x, it was bullshit. he was so much more solid the whole way down than hall and gagnier

I think in slope, he didn't do as well because his first box hit looked shitty. But yes, he is my favourite skier and always has been.

jon did not do the same run 3 times in the pipe. the third run he went for an unnatural 9 on his last hit. Im sure jon is happy with his competition results but he is one of those guys that does not base his whole season on how he does in competitions. there is much more to him than that.

His loss in slopstyle was solely because it was his first run, and they score lower on first runs (unless you're Shaun White, who they assume was going to win anyways). It was undoubtedly the styliest of the three podium runs and probably deserved to win. In pipe, it was just piss poor judging. Height counted for more than style and tech, plain and simple. It was an awful comp.

his pipe runs are simply amazing, no straight airs at all, all right wall hits are natural, all left wall hits are unnatural

Hahahahahahaha... I just watched their "best of winter X 9" montage, and guess who doesn't appear ONCE? That's right... the guy who should've swept Ski slope and pipe.

I agree with whoever said he skis in his comfort zone. Take his pipe run for instance-same thing always with SLIGHT variations but i mean overall its always the same ole same ole b/c he knows he can make money with it not necassarily win the comp but he knows he will get top 3. Almost like hes working hard to get the check but not workin hard enough for the win.

first of all, gagnier killed it. he went huge, and had mad style. jon is ultra smooth, but doesn't go as big, and he really mangled that first box. tanner... meh, who knows. jon probably had him, but gagnier deserved the win. who cares anyways? it's history man.

It's because he didn't push himself in the spinning department. You may not notice it but people who ski with him know this. (Looked like he was more focused on style)

----RIP Signature------

i have never seen him fall. he has always been my favorite skier and deserves way more respect than tanner because he is just so damn humble and not cocky at all

jons the sickness. he stomps the crap out of everything. i liked his slope run the best. but tanners pipe run was better.

for the people that say hes in his comfort zone, Its not like these guys think up their runs an hour before the comp. They practice their runs for an extremely long time. and he just makes it look so easy that he looks really comfortable.

hahah i'll tell u y he got shitty scores, the night before the comp he was in jail with t-hall for smokin sum j birds. Judges don't like that shit i think t-hall shuda won that shit and olsson take silver

true true all of that. thats the first thing i thought when i saw all three of their runs, was that jon should have won. not that it matters, but little things like skiing inbetween features switch he is so smooth, no snow plowing or anything awww just steezeeeeeee

All around he's 1st in the world in all domaines

However in Pipe its the same year after year, &

when he does his flares I find he wastes too much pipe, ends up with 1 hit less than others,

In slopestyle didn't his hand touch on his last

switch 10, those is lost points for landing

cmon u chuckleheads, judges arent as nieve as u think. i doubt the reason hes not scoring as high as garnier and hall is because he makes it look effortless. this is part of the sport and the judges know it. i honestly have no idea y he does win but i agree with those who say that he needs to celebrate more. make it look like ur enjoying it but dont flail and shit off jumps to make it look more difficult for u than it is to try and get a higher score cause u wont.

the gunshot holds no fear

just to make you more mad at him not winning, im almost possitive his perfect 270 on was unnatural

but yeh i agree jon is perfect and insane and deserves more

In my opinion Olsson should do lots of different grabs, he always do safety, reverse tailgrab and critical/nose... and do lots of difficultier rails like 450's or switch 450's and he should go bigger..

because he is sweedish and the judges are stupid.

competitions are not about whether an individual competitor is in or out of their comfort zone. a universal criteria is applied to every competitor regardless. so saying that jon is getting penalized for being in his comfort zone is silly. saying he was penalized for skiing 'comfortably', and not having enough amplitude in pipe, though, is valid.

however, he did go for an unnatural 9 in his last hit of his 3rd run, so you cant say he didnt go for it.

and the bronze in slope boiled down to his sketchy tailpress on the first box, plain and simple.
