The mind of a gaper?

whats running through there little heads as they carve down a 85 foot jumps landing? its like they wake up in the mourning get in there really expansive car and drive to the resort with the motivation and priority to absolutely cut ppl off and not give a fuck. they drag there entire family done the park and ride up the lips and bull shit..

does anyone agree with me that parks should issue park pases based on them viewing your ability to ride a terrainpark..

like a faimily of 4 that have like race skis shouldnt be able to just sign up for a pass and then still cut us off!

you got a point since "incorrect" use of a terrain park is actually kinda dangerous. like the riding down the landing thing. that can really kill someone.

second point that is also important for me, they should somehow get to realize WHERE the landings are on those "jump-thingys" are (if you thought the flat thing, i have bad news for you)

but in the end, its an open space, and we somehow need those people. like the more gapers get into a park, the more "real skiers" will be developed. and i guess they want to kill me too when i ride slopes down switch, cut them or whatever

did a superman front flip and right when i put my hands out and started soaring..there was a man carving down the landing of the 65 ft table... straight up screamed FML

if it weren't for gapers there wouldn't be a park, there wouldn't be ski hills, ski companies wouldn't make good skis, basically the industry would just go to shit. so when they cut you off just think about that
although my favorite is when they ride up the lip of a jump with no speed and just drop off the lip onto the flat and then ride down the landing

they have every right to ski the park and piss people off... just like you probably piss everyone off by acting like a thug and cutting lifelines and being a douche in general like most park rat kids.

not everyones an asshole dude.. i dont cut lines and i respect ppl... almost everyone who skis where i ski does its a all park mtn face. i give respect i just look at it as there risking injuring themselves and the person flying at the jump not knowing the father 4 year old son is skiing down a landing is a problem.

it puts everyone in danger. think before you speak man, this kid could have really been hurt. i've seen that same situation happy (at mountain creek btw) and a kid on a board came down on some girl skiing down the landing and broke her collarbone by landing on her. its serious stuff.

Dude that jump is not there just for you. Let the family enjoy the park, hit the little jumps, get a little thrill doing it and they will move on. You should be smart enough that if you see someone like that in the park to wait, let them ski then do your thing. Everyone has an equal right to every place on that ski mountain. I can see where you are coming from though, just be smart about it.

I'm a park rat/digger and what i really hate is when they do not treat the featers with any respect at all. like when the ride up the jump and stop halfway then walk up the takeoff and distroy the jump then i have to go fix it.

uhh the park has a big ass sign that says XL FEATURES ONLY NO EASY WAY DOWN for experienced riders only.... everythign is over 45 feet and all the rails are huge.

The best this year was when I was standing about 10 feet to the right of a lip onto a rail and this gaper yells at me saying "get out of the way! you're in the middle of everything". I asked what I was doing and he said he was trying to hit this "jump". The "jump" was made for the trap rail and this snowboarder wanted to go off the side. I laughed so hard and just stood there since I would be out of the way of anyone actually hitting the feature.

Most gapers are there to have fun though. They just don't realize that a 2 foot high 180 on a snowboard could be sorta cool to a sixth grader on a skateboard but it just looks gay when going off the lip onto a rail and you miss the rail(unless of course you're trying to learn 2s on then its legit for progression, jeaz)

I get what your saying man, but what good does it do bitching about it? Nothing. Best thing to do is write your local mountain and axplain your concerns in a professional way.

not every park rat is an asshole and not every gaper causes problems in the park...

if you see a gaper in the park, wait until they get down to the bottom or past whatever feature youre going to hit... if you think theyve stopped on a landing, go hit some other jump or go and tell them that they shouldnt stop there and then you wont have to worry about them doing it again.

not trying to be an ass, but obviously he didn't see him.. otherwise he wouldn't have had this problem

i dont agree theres a big sign in my park that the park crew had to make that says TERRAIN PARK USE ONLYpeople should respect that

i would normally tend to say that youre overreacting/bitching too much, but after my last day of the season today was infested with 600 racers riding over the lips and sitting in the landings of the park, i have to agree with you. my friend waited 10 mins just to drop into a QP and then got cut off by a gaper lady and her racer kids that came out of the blue. not to mention that by the end of the day the jump landings were mogul fields caused by the "sweet carving" of the racer munchkins

think of when you were a little kid and you wanted to ski the park and show your dad that you can do a jump. Yeah they're annoying but chances are you were like that.

at alpine i was hitting a jump and almost cut this gapsians head off. he was skiing down the landing, everyone yelled at him. he clearly heard but kept going to ski down more landings and fuck up more lips. i dont think they have souls...

Yes they should respect that, I agree, but why bash on them if they maybe dont see it or they just wanna hit a little jump near the rail? Is that so bad? I am not sticking up for any side. I am just saying put yourself in there shoes, they dont know all about park skiing, how much it makes us mad, just relax.

i like em. gapers give me people to make fun of. hell, without them, we would have no gaper day. and with no gaper day, well, i would only have melting snow to look forward to on April 1st.

like a faimily of 4 that have like race skis shouldnt be able to just sign up for a pass and then still cut us off!, I got in one little fight and my mom got scared, She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air', I whistled for a cab and when it came near, The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror, If anything I can say this cab is rare, But I thought 'Now forget it' - 'Yo homes to Bel Air', I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8,And I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo homes smell ya later',I looked at my kingdom, I was finally there, To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air

i have to say, gapers are annoying, but if they wernt there, who youd you make fun of or what would you bitch about. its enevitable that gapers will be in our parks no mattere how hard we try and keep them out. you just have to learn to work around them. when your hitting a feature, have a bud make sure the landing is clear. i kmow that sometimes even making sure the landing is clear still dosnt keep people from dropping in on you, but it really will show your fellow skiers that you have park ettiquite and hey; maybe the gapers will see it too. maybe..

yeah, except when i was a little kid i actually cleared the jumps, it was always the gaper straight air but i still never just skied up to the lip for a jump/rail or cut people off.

what is happening now with the racers carving the jump landings is rediculous and a great way for someone to get hurt. about a month ago, after i stood at the drop point for the jump line for 5 min, i threw a 3 over our 50 foot table only to see a 5 year old sitting in the landing with one ski off. this little bastard had the balls to say "watch where youre going" and i got bitched at by mommy and daddy at the bottom. i told them off pretty easily.

everyone has an equal right to every place on the mountain.

everyone has an equal right to follow the rules of the mounting

the park has a different set of rules than the grooms.

if gapers don't follow them, it's not just "annoying"

it's unsafe.

ask any park skier if he would ski across the landing of a 50ft table. he would say ONLY if i checked uphill first and got the balls out of there.

ask any "gaper" or less experienced skier the same question and he will answer, "what's a landing?"

it's dangerous for the gaper, and for the experienced skier.

I watched a kid carve down a landing and hit this lip thats meant to bring you 50 feet to the landing, but instead got enough speed to only make it maybe 10 feet, down he went about 10 feet to flat and collapsed. They should deffinetly have some sort of pass for the big parks because now all the kids waiting to hit these jumps have to wait 5 minutes for his father to ski over the soft lip and help his son who will probably do the same thing the next run.

What I don't understand is why if they have such large expansive cars are they in mourning?

* Go back to title post.

Yesterday I was skiing and I saw from the l lift that there was this old guy and his wife and little kid skiing in the park. It wasn't like they were on the side or out of the way, they were right in the middle. A snowboarder goes, obviosly doesn't see them, hits a rail and almost lands on them, swerves into some grass/mud patch. The boarder comes over to the family and pretty politely asks them not to ski where they were skiing. The old guy rips the boarder apart. He screams at him and how he has the right to be anywhere he wants etc. The boarder did nothing wrong.

I am not saying we shouldn't respect gapers, they are a part of skiing, but resect needs to be mutal and not just from us to them

That's actually a fucking stupid example. When was the last time someone got seriously injured being a douche? There are signs outlining safety in the park at the top for a reason. Ski patrol should spend some time in there telling unsafe people to leave.

i agree. ultimately it comes down to safety. i don't mind gapers in the park if they're aware of their surroundings, but often times that is not the case. i think that the 720 to girl tap video that someone posted a while ago is a perfect example of what could go wrong. i don't think gapers do it on purpose - i think that they just don't understand the ramifications of their actions.

that was probably the exception. Me and my friend who i ski with the most have never had any problem with people, just be nice and let them know. most will listen

Wow, a snowboarder being that respectful? I always have problems with them. I remember once in the park right when it opened I was skiing and checking out each table, rail, etc. (keep in mind 0 people are using anything right now, and I am out of everyones way) and some group of snowboarders just sitting off to the side like always yell "YOU'RE F**KING RETARDED"

For what? Playing it safe and checking out landings?

that sucks so much dick....one time i was hitting a 40 footer or so and there was a 5 person family taking a FAMILY PHOTO on the landing of the jump, i landed switch like 3 feet from them. then they started to yell at me for skiing recklessly. they just need to be a little more aware of their surroundings because the mountain is a relatively dangerous place, its not some beach vacation in the Bahamas. (i hope the last part makes some scene)
