The MASSIVE Failure

alright, dont get me wrong, the massive was a pretty damn good movie, however it lacked what other ski movies have, id like to see more park and urban, im not from a huge mountain or anything so seeing all that pow just makes me want to move out west, i just wasnt that impressed with the massive, it was too hyped up in my opinion, any thoughts?

Your thread title blows.

I'm ski in fucking New Jersey and I loved Massive. It had ridiculous pow shots and BC kickers. Buy a level 1 flick if you want urban and park, you know what your getting if you get Massive.

hence why i said im from a small mountain so i didnt enjoy the pow as much, dont get it twisted, i said i liked it just wanted a lil more urban and park, didnt think it was that much to ask, the urban sesh they has in the massive was pretty lame, and they couldnt put a bit more in there to even it out instead of focusing on one aspect of skiing.

thanks for the title hate too, you are awesome

get Head for the Hills. equal amounts of east coast pow park and urban shots. my favorite movie of the year

You are forgetting one thing. Tanner doesn't give a shit about you. He made the movie that he wanted to make. That movie happens to have only a tiny bit of park.

So true. Basicallly when yoou buy a movie you know what your getting, so if your a park / urban lover (like myself) buy movies like turbo, road to nowhere, slamina.

I dont understand what you're trying to get at by saying the Massive was a let down. Did you not see the video updates Tanner posted? Did you not have any idea what the film was going to be about? Did you not realize Tanner didn't compete in any comps this past year other than X-pipe? It was pretty easy to know that the Massive was NOT going to be about park or urban. If you were upset that it didn't have that stuff, then you bought the wrong movie...YOUR FAULT, YOU FAIL! As mentioned earlier, if you wanted more park/urban, you should have bought a level 1, STEPT, or 4bi9 movie. Now go sit on your thumb and apologize.

Massive is what skiing is all about, POW. The idea behind massive is what THall and his crew did last year. I appluad Massive, it shows how talented THall is. He can go win Xgames Pipe and then go shred Pow in BC. Props to Karl the Gnarl!!!! I wish he was my cat driver, that dude cracks me up!

the massive was horrible. It looked like a first attempt. re-using shots, repetitive, terrible soundtrack. For me no thanks

no i dont fail, its my opinion, you dont like it you you can leave, all i was saying is what i would have liked to see, clearly you think im flaming the movie when thats not what im doing, im giving props to tanner bacause it was a great movie, dont get me wrong, but i would have liked to see some other things as well, i already bought slamina and turbo is on the way but i just wanted to know what you guys thought, but clearly you have to be douchebags and think that im flaming, which couldnt be further from the truth

my view of newschoolers changed drastically

hahah really? its always been this way as far as i can remember.....kids are just waiting to pwn eachother

Okay, I'm the first to acknowledge that everybody is entitled to their own opinion. But what you're saying is just wrong. Actually its more than I wrong, there is no word to describe how incorrect what you are saying is. Massive had the most amazing shots coupled with some of the most amazing skiing I have ever seen in my life. Living on the east coast I have never been a fan of pow skiing but I absolutely loved Massive. The skiing was at such a high level that even I, an eastcoaster, was able to truly appreciate the skill level of the skiers. The shots were absolutely mind blowing and some of the angles were just incomprehensible.

All this to say that what you are saying is superwrong. (my new word for how wrong you are)

And to the thread creator, I understand that you're not trying to hate on this movie, but seriously, if you were following the hype for Massive at all you would have known what this move was going to be. Going into IF3 for Massive all I was expecting was some amazing skiing and some gorgeous filming, and that's exactly what I got and so much more.

I think youre making an unfair judgement. If you wanted to watch park and urban there are plenty of movies that have more than enough of that.

-Slamina

-Turbo

-Head for the Hills

-Get Lucky

The Massive trailer had no rail shots, one shot of the hood hip, and everything else was backcountry. Should've known what kind of movie it was going to be.

You might as well bitching at 4bi9 for not having any AK heli shots.

i was following the hype and all, but we all know how tanner slays in the pipe and there was only a little section with him in the pipe, i just wanted more thats all lol

Reason 1 why your an idiot:

"no i dont fail, its my opinion, you dont like it you you can leave, all i was saying is what i would have liked to see,"

Did you watch the trailer, or the majority of updates? Did you not notice how almost 100% of the hype for the movie was based on big mountain and powder skiing? So when you bought the movie did you think there would be a full 180 from what was hyped and it would be a showcase of park and urban? If so your an idiot.

Reason 2:

"clearly you think im flaming the movie when thats not what im doing, im giving props to tanner bacause it was a great movie, dont get me wrong,"

so you thought the movie was great, but you were disappointed at the same time? Make up your mind.

"and think that im flaming, which couldnt be further from the truth" what are you doing then? Loving?

i feel bad for this thread creator...if you're a big mountain junky and you watched slamina and there weren't enough big mountain lines would you be pissed that the movie didn't live up to the hype? I think not.

Then don't watch it. Most of us love that movie because it embodies the type of skiing we do or always wish we could do.

honestly, I did not care for it much the first time I watched it. However the more times I watch it the more I like It. I watch it almost once a day now and it gets better each time. I have seen the Massive at least 15 times now. Don't review a movie untill you have watched it at least 3 times.

well originally this thread was supposed to be about massive and opinions thereof, however, it has turned into a "flame the thread creator" thread and thats not what i wanted, i have mixed reviews about the movie, that is all, and i wanted to know what other people thought of the movie, not of me...

thank you

You should have titled the thread "Opinions about the Massive" or you should have search barred this because it has already been discussed, rather than make a title that portrays one of the best movies ever made (in the opinion of a lot of NS'ers) as a travesty.

I can't talk too much though, I have only seen half of the movie, but from what I have seen, it is one of the better movies made. I will respond again once I have seen the whole thing.

im sure he aslo took into account what the people aslo wanted to see if he didnt thats just dumb

I think what sparked the most hate was the title of the thread. As soon as I read it I went in skeptical.
I liked Massive a lot because I love powder (I live on the East Coast) I thought that it was exactly like it was hyped to be. Other movies like Slamina were much more park and urban oriented (I really enjoyed those too)
IMO as long as it's good skiing I like it.

have fun with that faggot. I ski pow everyday and i didnt like the movie. That is not to say that the skiing wasnt good because it was. I didnt like the MOVIE you fuck head. I am not a fan of reggae and it was the same thing over and over. Tanner made the movie good for fucking him as far as i am concerned it did not appeal to me in any way. Thanks for coming out the champ. enjoy the ice coast this winter

alright end the hate already, i take full responsibility for making a suckass thread title, if i could change it i would...anyways more opinions or nothing i suppose

PMS?

she flipped shit,

honestly though, who gives a shit? if you dont like it, so what? dont go around thrashing it when other people might think its awesome.

personally i think the film is exactly how tanner wanted it and i think thats awesome

It was widely known that the massive wouldn't have a park focus - there are other movies for that

Same as you wouldn't buy a TGR flick to have 90% urban shots

i agree with the reggae thing, did tanner seriously think i wanted to listen to non-stop Cali P throughout the whole experience? i hope he doesn't do that again.

Massive was pretty good. Not as good as Tanner's last installment, but as one who isnt a tanner fan he does continue to impress me. However, I still dont think his films touch the nimbus crew (especially idea) with the backcountry advancements and actual film making. As a student filmmaker Im usually underwhelmed with the actual filming abilities (which is fine, I always take it with a grain of salt) but Idea was actually incredibly well made. Tanner is catching up to that level though. These guys are definitely moving in a good direction about moving back to keeping it about the skiing and not the adverts to gapers or weekend warriors (aka tgr and msp).

personally i find pow way siiiicker and alot more fun to shred. so thats why i love this movie. but yeah if your more into park and urban then its not gonna fullfill you too much.

do u really not understand what tanner is trying to do?
1. he didnt want to make a movie like others2. he wanted big lines, (pow skiing is 1000000 times better then park skiing)3. he does what he wants4. he wants to show the world that he kills it out of the park to.5. The movie was the sickest BC movies ever
u prob live in the midwest and have never skied any BC with huge pillows and massive drops, and 10 ft of snow. Now once u do this then u can tell me u dont like tanners movie. But i know that u wont, u will have so much more respect for it.

personally i didnt really like the massive, i loved believe, i love powder, i love bc booters and everything, but over all i really thought the massive lacked the wow factor, durring believe i was shitting my pants watching epic pow shots but during massive i just wasnt that pumped, i mean there was some good skiing, but so much of it seemed staged, which wasnt terrible, but still not great.

i agree it wasnt all it was hyped up to be but it was still some of the most amazing pow skiing ive ever seen and made me want to get out and rip

Just don't post a whole thread about your opinion. I think almost everyone has made a dumb post (I know I have, and I felt like shit after getting bagged on). Just learn from this and don't post an opinion.
