The Marshall Mathers LP II

I haven't liked anything off it so far far (Rap God was okay, albeit a bit corny), and I doubt this album will be anything other than Recovery II.
 
Definitely an improvement from what he was doing, its not 100% back to the OG shit, but a step up.

Im actually enjoying quite a few of the songs, ya'll need to be more open minded. Most rapers fade from their glory days and dont ever get close to their prime again. Many of these songs could have been on MMLP "1" and you'd never know the difference.

Im just happy that EM came out with an album that isnt total garbage. I am content.

Do I wish he came out with something better then the original? of course.

Is that even possible? No.

I could use a lil more violence/drug/sex/disses, tho. God damn new age pop music
 
Best way to describe this album. All of the singles were terrible though so I'm not surprised. This sounds like a weird combination of relapse and recovery, his two worst albums. He needs to stop.
 
Not at all... From the singles I could see how you might think that, but the album is actually pretty good as a whole.

I lke it for the most part. Definently better then recovery (some of it could be better), but he should just stop being a bitch and go back and do drugs. His stuff was better when he did. He'll never match any of his classics or even come close. Not enough sex, drug and queer references. (When i say queer, I mean anything that sounds like he was high when he wrote it ex:) "shove a gerbel in your ass, through a tube"). I do like his references in the songs to mmlp like in bad guy though
 
I listened to it...it's awful. Eminem has made now 3 really shitty albums in a row. He has no sense of cohesiveness or direction and only tries to cover up his complete lack of substance by using corny, technical rhyme schemes. Even the song with Kendrick is god awful. Plus Dr. Dre's post-2001 production is so boring and predictable. There are so many better rap albums that have come out this year. Emninem is in hispost-prime years as an artist and this album sounds like him aimlessly grasping for relevance.
 
If you think it's awful then you had way too high of expectations and were probably expecting something similiar to MMLP, which it's not, in my opinion it's a lot more similar to SSLP. There's some terrible songs on here (Survival, the Monster) but as a whole this is a pretty solid album. The first song is genius alone, a murder narrative from Stan's younger brother is an awesome song. Brainless has one of the dopest beats that Em has put out along with an awesome throwback flow from him. Love Game is hilarious and well-executed. This is honestly a very typical Eminem album, I would say it's at least as good as The Eminem show. Everybody knows that he is past his prime (including himself) and he's famous enough to not have to grasp for relevance, There's no way you can call this as bad as Recovery or Relapse (or even Encore IMO). And the part about Dre's post 2001 production being boring and predictable is irrelevant as he didn't make any of the beats...
 
Dre co-produced the album so he obviously had a huge pat in crafting it's sound. You're an idiot if you don't agree that Dre was largely responsible for the sound of this album. You keep listing off songs a singularly good, that's this albums whole problem. There's no concurrent theme or even mood, it basically sounds like a bunch of dissimilar tracks patched together. Em has never been good at making albums as singular pieces but this is just as bad as relapse (not recovery though, that still stands as his worst album by far). He hasn't been an influential part of the hip hop scene is a long time so yeah, he is trying to jumpstart his fan base back into action within the hip hop community. Everyone already fucking knows Eminem is famous, he's never had any trouble moving albums. He wants to still remain known as a true hip hop artist and he has all but lost that reputation with his past 3 releases (you could argue 4). You're correct though in that this does sound like SSLP, just with the corniness of relapse.
 
I just don't like it. I can't, it's not as depressed, violent, drug filled or anywhere near as real as what he used to make. He's a cash grab now, and for what he used to rap about, he of all people should realize it.

 
Dre did have a large influence but at the end of the day it was Eminem who was calling the shots on what stayed and what went on the album. That being said, dre has made good beats since 2001. As for the album, it was okay but awkwardly patched together. I'm still glad that he released it though. It takes balls for him to go back to rap. I'm just glad he didn't pull a jay-z and make an album identical to most everything out at the moment
