What does everyone think about this? With the new public enemy, and even raps bein all 'ja rule rules!', theyre beginning to become associated with each other. Personally, I dont like it simply cuz I dont want to be labeled as a wigger because I ski, and with all due respect to the beastie boys and eminem, 90% of all skiers are white and we have no rhythm or ability to rap(except for the above mentioned, as well as the white guy in swollen members).

Skiing has just as many punkers as it does hip hoppers, just from our hill, at a comp you'll hear hatebreed followed by whatever hip hop they have lieing around. And besides the majority of the skiing community is a bunch of well-to-do yuppies.

Ja-rules first album was good, he definitely went downhill.

yeah, if you worry about what people think, then skiin isn't for you, it's about you, the air , the mtn, and all that other good shit, also i don't really see a huge hip ho influnce either, i would think there would be more a rich kid labelin than a wigger. cause most people that i have dealt with think you need to have hella money to be a skiier.

dirty is a prophet, i swear. fuck labeling. i got short hair, wear boots and listen to loud music so everyone thinks im some type of kkk/american history X type. they dont even care to notice my large amount of non caucasian friends or my s.h.a.r.p patch (SkinHeads Against Racial Prejudice). i have skied in my tight ass levis and leather jacket with spikes before, and it just isnt comfortable. i dont like hip hop at all by the way

i very much so understand what you are saying. each year i see baggier pants, more puffy jackets and more and more rap in every video. I love rap. but i wear tight pants and also listen to dance music. I think what you are saying is that skiers are slowly being tied to ONLY rap instead of all genres of music. and i tink that in part we have the videos to blame for this. i skatebaord. alot. and i have skated for a while now. I've seen probably close to a hundred skate videos, and i've made notes on how they have changed over time. the point of videos is to make a sport look cool. so videos often put 'cool' music in the soundtrack (it makes sense). skateboard videos used to do this, and some still do. but for the most part videos now use music that fits the skater, rather than music that is cool. in ski videos, the skier were almost forced to fit the music, instead of have the music fit them. because of this many pro skiers are 'wiigers' which is lame but not entirely their fault. all i have to say is, hopefully it's just a phase. i mean, wouldn't it be cool to see a piss drunx of skiing? the answer is yes.

I dont think there is one type of music asociated with skiing. Its all about what you personally like, and if other people dont like the can get f**ked. Skiing will only progress if people keep it real and stay true to them selves.

i didn't think newchool skiing is looked at (by society, and if at all) at the same level as something as mainstream as hip hop is now. now if that made sense to any of you, im trying to say that no one will ever think of us as a bunch of wiggers....... even those of us who where dew-rags and lanyards.

if you asked most of the young pro skiers out there what kind of music they would prefer in their segment they would say rap. It is hardly being forced onto them. yes skiing seems to be a bunch of little white boys that really like rap. Not a bad thing, just a thing...

Personaly, I wish skiing would get married to Britney Spears and or Queen.

if you asked me what my favorite music was i may say rap as well. I'm not disputing the fact that rap is a rad genre of music. I also did not entirely mean what i said earlier. i said that rap is forced on young skiers by movies. i suppose a more accurate comment would be that rap was in a sense forced on all of us. you see, 'extreme' or 'alternative' sports necesitate 'alternative music'. now, videos tried punk, and it worked okay, but rap seemed to fit better in some cases. my only complaint is that we have now stopped looking. rap sounded good some of it is relatively 'alternative', now it is the dominant genre of music in most ski movies. because it appears a lot, many are influenced by it. I didn't know about mos def before the game, moka only before propoganda, dislocated styles before ski movie 2. I can't speak for others, but movies have shown me new music. but i feel that for some, videos have portrayed rap as the 'only' music suitable for skiing. so i believe that rap heavily influences the youth of skiing. the fact that rap is often the only influence is what makes me angry. don't limit yourself. do what you find fun. but if what you find fun is what someone has told you to find fun, take a good look at yourself.
