I don't think anyone thought the current model was 'pretty' either. The heelpiece looks like it has some of the technology of the old ones. I bet it has some sort of multi-directional release, just not a full pivot which is obvious from the pic.

There will always be enough of the old model for everyone. And the fks/zr is unchanged.

they do look really generic but if they have improved the binding from what it already is I can see getting them when i need bindings. but i will miss having to explain to people that no i don't get the bindings stuck up my arse

the pivot is non-existing anymore. Basically it becomes like a normal binding, but with more forward-pressure. Personnaly I think this is the dumbest move Rossi/Look have made, because they had the best freestyle/freeride binding out there BECAUSE of that pivot. Anyways, just hope this binding is better then the rest, for some reason.

 
ok, im stocking up. ill have to buy a pair or two this summer. that is a really bad move on rossi/looks part, i love my axials. best binding on the market in my opinion. i would be carefull about buying the 4frnt binding next season, look what happened to the line binding

There will be no more p10, p12 or p14. This is an entirely new design based on forward pressure instead of a pivoting heel. Which is retarded, so who knows what they're thinking.

They will still have the heel from this and previous seasons on the P18's I believe. But thats a race stock bidning so not going to be in eveyr store you go in. Same with Rossi I believe, they still have the FKS or whatever its called.

 
The thing about the axial heel is it couldn't really be improved much beyond the point of where it was. With this heelpiece they can atleast evolve it to be a more progressive dual pivoting binding, thats something that with the design of the p-series bindings could not be done because of the bars that held on the heelpiece. At the same time the binding is probably cheaper to manufacture and im sure it will be met (and already has been)with alot of hate, similar to what the line binding has been met with. It seems alot of people are afraid of change in the binding market. Im willing to bet most people on this site have not touched, never mind ridden the new rossi/look bindings. Therefor none of you can really say its a horrible business desiscion or not, sure you can question and say 'shit whatever they replaced the p-series with beter be a beter binding because those were good enough for most people' but anything beyond that and you have no credibility at all. I mounted a pair of these new bindings on some guys zeniths a week days ago and it seemed to be even burlier than what the p-series are, no i havent ridden them...and at first i too was wondering what they were thinking but it might end up being an improvement on their part so give it some time and wait to see how these bindings perform.

 
why improve near perfection? i would have liked them to keep the axial heel, and develop a bomb proof brake with a little pivot on it to resist blowups when you come out fast going or landing switch

Guddgulf, I think you were trying to use the cliche, 'Why fix what isn't broken?'. Because obviously the Look P-series bindings were not perfect, but excellent. They can still be improved.

Whats the big deal? so what the pivot is gone, what makes look bindings magic is how much lateral (up and down) elastic travel they had because of the tube design heel. These new ones still have a tube design heel, and probably a more solid attatchment to the base of the binding.

you guys are almost all dumbasses, by 'axial heel' im assuming you mean dildo heelpiece. and yes, this beast still has it. the pic just looks weird. ive seen these binding in real life, with a boot in them. they look pretty much the same, just the bottom of the heelpiece is changed a bit.

Lateral elasticity is the side to side movement, not up and down.

No this binding probably does not have the same lateral elasticity but if what the companies are saying about the forward pressure with this new heelpiece (yes it is new, the change in the way the dildo is attached to the base makes it perform in an entirely different way)then a decrease in lateral elasticity would not be that big of a deal.

If you think the binding hasnt changed, your wrong.

If you think the binding is a stupid idea, you might be right but noone really knows yet.

jd- i think alot of people consider the heel piece to be just the actual dildo part of the binding, which isnt really correct but alot of people seem to be seeing it that way.

To the people that think the heelpiece is just the dildo-The heelpiece is the entire unit that gets mounted, the way the dildo is mounted to the base of the heelpiece has just as much to do with the function of it as the dildo itself, because that is the part of the binding that applies the forward pressure(which is supposed to be this bindings saving grace, indicating a big change in its design).

 
And actualy even the exterior of the dildo has changed it was boxier, and had more of a metal construction. Atleast the one i worked with did.

 
^^exactly - the entire heelpiece is now more of a conventional design (really reminds me of marker's heel piece design - not the actual internal design, but the external design). the old pivot turntable (you know, the part on the existing binding that turns turn...duh and is flat table) design has pretty much been thrown out the window by the looks of it.

personally, i think look is just reinventing the wheel. and while it may work out for them in the future, i don't know how well these things will sell in the 05-06 season.

I heard those bindings were gong to replace the axium series. And that the axials were still going to have the pivot. SO basically both bindings would look the same, but only the higher end would actually have the pivot system

The ones i set had a din to 14, and no turntable. So im saying that although its possible they are actualy killing the nova/axium series its not true that the higher end bindings will have a pivoting heel. This excludes the race series bindings, they will still pivot for a couple years anyway im sure.

Is there any other information available online about these bindings??? I saw some competition mogul skier on my mtn on these...but I did not realize what they were until I read this thread...the dildo is def. square shaped

i can't believe that LOOK is getting rid of the heel piece after so many years. i mean you see the old school powder skis from back in the day that area like 220 cm and have LOOKS on them that look just like the new bindings but made outta metal and kinda scary looking but the idea was still there

guys.... these bindings must be amazing. they wouldn't get rid of the best bindings on the market, and replace them with shit. these must be really good, and revolutionary, there for they are replacing hte pivot/axial heels.
