The "Long Ski" Trend

Back in the old days, people had the whole trend where whoever skied the longest ski was therefor the coolest or best or whatever.

Well this trend is back and it's fucking gay. Every time someone mentions that they ride a 160 they get dissed or if someone's ski looks small in a pic they get dissed and this is what brings NS and the entire ski community down. It's pathetic and a lot of it can come from jealousy. When I mean jealousy I mean when you're getting ready to hit a table one your 180s when a kid on 160s hits it and throws a super nice trick and you say he only did it because he was on short skis.

It's all personal preference, people can ski a 190 or they can ski a 140, it's all skiing, the fact that you're doing a technical trick doesn't mean shit. I know it looks better a lot of the time when someone's using a longer ski, it's because it's proporionate to them, but still, people will ski a short ski and that doesn't make them a better or worse skier. I ski a 164 and I can do all the same shit on a much longer ski, I don't give a fuck that I ski something short, I want something longer for powder because I fall forward and backwards easier but I don't have the money.

So many people are following this trend and every little bitch that calls someone gay because they ski a short ski is either trying to make themselves sound superior or the fact that they're jealous.

u said that very well I agree with u. I'm just under 6' tall and I ski a 168 v expression and a 171 1080. the 171 is the longest ski I've ever owned even when I raced my longest was a 170 atomic 916. some people prefer shorter skiis and I'm one of them.

As far as pullin a trick goes, length within those ranges of say 160-190 isn't gonna make much difference. Especially with the way they are making skis so light now. But if you wanna have some fun, you should go find a old school pair of 210 or 215 straights and see how much harder it is to handle em.

are you retarded. throwing spins with a 160 is a helluva lot easier then spinning with a 190. Big skis look alot better, and yes shorter kids with bigger skis deserve more props. its harder to throw around a bigger ski then a shorter one. saying there is no difference between little skis and big skis is the same thing as saying snowblades are the same as sethpistols. i am pretty fuckin sure its easier to do tricks on snowblades then sethpistols, but then again I have never snowbladed. anyways it is all in reference to the skiers height. if your 5'10+ ski sonthing bigger then a 175. shorter skiers ski a shorter ski. big kids with little skis is dumb but short kids with big skis is cool.

sacrifice, to some its just a word, to others it is a code, what matters is the colony, he is willing to live for the colony, fight for the colony, die for the colony.

yeah really^

it is A LOT harder to spin with long skis, period. plus it looks cooler

why do you think no one likes skiboarding? it's just short skis

i was kidding on my other post, but longer skis really do look better and perform better

I like to tell people that they might be happier on longer skis if I see that they are on really short skis, but I never 'bitch' or 'diss them - like you say, it's preference. But that's how it was for me at least - I'm about 6'3 and I used to ski 176s. I moved to 190s and I'm a lot happier on them. The extra weight got a little getting used to at first, but I'd say it's hardly noticable when spinning - the weight actually helps keep the rotation smooth I think - I just set it and the skis carry the spin through.

Am I the only one that doesn't have to 'throw around a ski'? Do you all have chicken legs or something? Because whatever I'm skiing on I don't even think about the ski, I 'throw around' my body and just let things come to place. This trend is fucked up and so are the people that follow it. People stopped skiboarding for two reasons, the first being of course that they needed something longer, the second being that 'longer is cooler' assholes dissed them to hell so they just gave up. What fun is a day on the hill when you're getting made fun of? I can't imagine it's too great.

Hmmm, I don't care if their skis are short, it just looks like shit, I think long skis are essential for style but I won't rag on someone for having short skis (sorry for saying rag) although I may say, you hsould get some longer skis more because I think it owuld add to it then because I'm jealous. Personally I am short as a mofo like 5'2 and I ride a 150 ski so its pretty porportionate. I think around as tall as you is good.

-MiKeE LiFsHiTz-

i meant more in the grand scheme of comparing say snow blades to 200's. And a lot of it depends on your weight and height.

'Because it's there...'

I know an eleven year old kid who rides skis a few inches taller than him, and he can throw 1080s. If he can handle long skis, anyone can.

whoever said anyone over 5'10 should ski a 175 or longer obviously doesnt know their skis too well. personally, i am almost exactly 6 feet tall, i have 169 and 171 1080's, and i actually like the shorter ones better. do you take a person's weight into account when you give this size recommendation? what if they are 6'1 and only like 140 lbs? a 175 is gonna be too big of a ski for someone that light, unless its a really soft ski.

Fear causes hesitation and hesitation causes your worst fears to come true

WHO FUCKING GIVES A SHIT!!!!!! honestly it doesnt matter what u ride, and by caring what other people think and making this thread u sir are bitch, a manwhore, and raging bastard! stop caring about what other people ride or think and start skiing or skating or whatever the hell u do! (unless u snowlerblade, then u are a raging faggot)

don't be hatin!

Really who gives a shit what others think about you. When skiing I have two simple rules.

1. try and stay as warm as possible(even if you look like a dork) cause ya ain't skin if your in the lodge every twenty minutes getting warm.

2. Have fun, when it's not fun quit.

notice no mention of downhill sliding equipment, cause it doesn't matter. The only thing that's not cool are the people on the sliding eqiupment making asses of themselves. Slide down the hill on what ever and have a good time that's what a ski hill is for, right??

***Hire a teenager while they still know everything.***

like honestly my frist twins were 163cm freezone bump prototypes, then 171 1080s, now 168 expressions. I could ride longer but who skiis bumps on 180s and enjoys it anymore? I can still spin almost the same on a 180 as I can on a 160 but why ski on a ski that is my height? I'm 6' and a 180 is my height basically, short skiis are fine. just within reason. if the skiis are 20cm shorter than you then ur not challenging urself at all, and hurting you normal ski technique!

if the ski is a bout as tall as you i find that pretty much acceptable, whether is a little shorter doesnt matter, but when u get down to where your skis are a lot smaller than you it kind of sux, i dont really bitch people out for it but skis shouldnt be to much smaller than u it makes things to easy, screws u up in powder, and doesnt really look as good

you guys who ride short skis - especially you, steve - are a bunch af freaking pussies.

I don't really care that much - but you are total pussies and probably have tiny little weiners to match your tiny little skis.

dyna-dogg why would you bother saying that? what was the point in that last comment? do u feel intelligent thinking about all our dicks? u know that we could turn around and say u ride long skiis to make up for a descrepancy. so just shut up and keep ur bitching to urself.

seriously though, you guys on that short crap will ENJOY longer skis if you just spend the time learning to ski them properly.

yeah definitely, and some people, like me bought their 161s when they were small and dont want to spen the money on new skis after one year and i grew like 4 inches and added like 15 pounds

see I dont like skiis longer than 174 and dont like em shorter than 165. I have a strict range, I've tried a million twins and I know what I like. I hate the 181 1080s just too soft. the only exception I will make is for a pair of v-pro 180cm I like those a lot because they are a damn stiff ski, that is my only exception to my range in ski length.

i jumped from a 160 to a 179 and found barely any difference in spinning, landings were just easier on the longer ski

you want a fucking cookie? they still feel short to me!!! I'm such a big man!! bla bla bla. ask dylhole about riding long skis, the kids like 5 feet tall and riding 180's my dad still rides 205's it really doesn't matter how big they are as long as they arn't small.

why would u pick on someone whi rides a shorter ski, why dont u just go and ski, get good, then skool the short ski people. I say u can only ake fun of short ski people if u can beat them at skiing. I'm a medium ski length skier, just so u all know.

I have my 164s and I can ski more solidly on a 176 Stomp or 177 1080 or whatever, but I don't have the money for a new ski... well, I do... but I'm not spending it on skis. It's just retarded when someone goes 'short skis are for pussys, get a 180' or something like that because we're not pussys, we just don't ski something that long, it's retarded and i'm sick of it.

i ride 164's too. i dont see why everyone thinks its soo much better. if you ride better and can do much better tricks on shorter ski's go for it, if you can do the same on longer ski's thats great.

i have 153s, but when i got them they were as tall as i was. ive grown a lot and i think im getting 169s next year

I was the only kid who skis in my terrain park at a local mountain everyone snowboards. When I decided I needed a twin I had no one to ask for advice. The industry Demo cam up there and since I work in a ski shop I got free demos all day. I tried almost every twin out there and you know what I liked the best 161cm 1080's I thought they were nice. Im 5'9 150lbs I dont give a shit what anyone says on lunch breaks at my shop I've taken out 195 xscreams and i could ski them just as easily as anything else but I dont feel I have anything to prove to anyone out on the slope but myself so I bought those 161's and you know what I like them. When i was on a roadtrip out to colorado the lifty at Copper Mountain started giving my shit about how short my skis were and I noticed something, he was a fag. -The End

does it matter how long your skis are? if you're good, they should be up to your forehead. simple

ski the trees

if your using short, jib skis it means that you probably don't ski all mountain much or well, long skis are more versitile and show that your more than a simple jibber that can't really ski, i personally respect people with skis about as tall or taller than them then some 6 foot skier on 170s

boys just chill, it's all bout personal preference, if u like em long fine, if u like em short, fine, no need to start bitchin bout it

-Cheese

Just say fuck it and huck it!

dude, look at fucking slalom skis. pro racers use skis that are only shoulder high or so, and they can kick you ass any time. sure longer sticks are better for all mountain, but dont give me that 'short skis are for jib only' shit

My opinion is this; I started skiing park 4 years ago when line first launched on the 164 twelve sixties. I thought I was the man because I was throwin down 9's like it was my last name. (on about a 25 foot table) Then I moved to colorado and started hitting decent size tables. I think that year they had a 60 footer built and I thought that I would represent. My ass got delt with when I tried to stomp even a 5 over that table. Not to mention I tried to keep speed through brecks pipe and just couldn't do it. I then went to the candides the next year and began stomping big tables. Shorts skis are fine on small tables, but if you go huck off something big you better nail it perfect or your gonna find yourself in a bitter state. The candides ruled the park for me then and the pipe was no longer just one or two hits before my speed was gone. I could then take my speed all the way down the pipe. Keep your short skis if you want, but hit a big table with them and you might change your mind.

Skis are like cocks... the bigger the better.... end of discussion

when i bought my last pair of skis they were my first shaped skis, so the shop people told me to go shorter and i would never notice the difference. i went from a 205 straight rossi race ski to a 184 rossi bandit x. coming from the racing background and from always riding straight skis i loved how much more i could do with a shaped ski but they were just not long enough. my next pair of skis will be something similar to the bandit cause they are stuff enough and have a sorta twin, but they will definitely be longer. i dont necessarily look down on those with short skis but i used to get shit for riding into the park on my 205s till i stomped my shit, but myself i definitely prefer the longer skis.
