The Long Needed Inspiration Thread

Yes! Stumbled upon some of her work last week, definitely check out her website, she takes the most incredible portraits I've ever seen. Light and colour in all her pictures are amazing.

Was that meant as a positive thing, as in she shoots this style really well, or as in you think that too many people do it and you don't like it so much?

Her wedding photos are extremely good, have you seen any?

Yeah her wedding photos are amazing!

I wasn't really thinking that far when I said that TBH. I kind of dislike her blown highlights, but that isn't a big deal and you kind of expect that with high contrast digital files. I just think it's a really popular style of editing, separate from compositional style which I think she absolutely nails!

Agreed, I'm quite a fan of it though. Sometimes the blown out portions can be a little overwhelming but I think it gives it a much more natural look. Think of all the bright days where you get a glimpse of the sun and your vision gets blown out a little while looking at other object between the sun and your eyes.

That's just my personal take though, I think it's pretty cool.

A great deal of my inspiration comes from http://abduzeedo.com/. Everyday they post a "Daily Inspiration" article that is just a list of awesome Graphic Design, Photography and Architecture. If you're into design at all definitely check this out.

Totally agreed! I fucking LOVE Wes Anderson. I didn't know he was a director loved by hipsters.

Couple other photographers I love:

René Burri

Andre Kertesz

Garry Winogrand

Elliot Ewitt

Wes Anderson is the poster child for hipster cinema. Although I don't necessarily agree, since the term "hipster" has lost all meaning and is mostly used by people who feel threatened by the resurgence of borrowed culture.

Still, I have a love/hate relationship with his films. Some are amazing, while others I can't stand. I still have yet to see Moonrise Kingdom; it looks really good.

Not sure if this goes here, but I really do like to see Philippe Halsman's work. He's photographed ton of celebrities back in the day. I went to the Dalí museum last Christmas sorta by chance and stumbled into the room full of Halsman's photos and was seriously in awe. I had seen them before, but god damn they were cool to see large prints of them. Weird and cool portraits.

His skiing stuff is admittably not the best but his ability to transcend "genres" is wonderful

I need some inspriation right now, because after getting my last couple of rolls back I feel like I am fucking horrible. Thank god for this thread.

I am surprised nobody mentioned Sebastao Salgado yet. I guess I am the only inspired by him, I'm sure you'll be inspired too.

Here are a few shots.

Here is a wet plate photo taken of me. We shot about five that day. It is still in water and taken with my cell phone so the image is a little crappy.

Little bit of an annoying presentation but it helped inspire me to do more work.

The Great Discontent does interviews with all sorts of arts people from music to art to illustration to design to businessmen/women. really interesting hearing about their process, how they get into what they're doing, their inspiration, their personal pursuits, etc etc. People from all walks, but who are all in some way involved with creative fields.

there's usually a new one each week. http://thegreatdiscontent.com
