The LGBT Community and Wedding Cakes

If a KKK member went to a black baker and said he wanted a cake for their KKK party with some racist design, can he turn down the KKK members business or are they too going to be forced to bake a cake?

It also blows my mind anyone is agreeing with this statement the KKK is a hate group and they used to tar feather and hang black people, probably still do. Gay people usually tend to not go around and kill people. That's not the same thing.

This is the threshold question. If you thonk they can refuse service to gays, you have to also be fine with this.

I am actually way more receptive to the idea than I used to be, in the sense that I can see the appeal of saying, people should be free to destroy their reputations and businesses.

I go back to my argument, this is certainly true in progressive areas, now try if you told a diner in a rural part of Kentucky "you dont have to serve black people" Not only would they not destroy their reputation, it actually might be popular.

There are a lot of racist and terrible places in the US, luckily most of us here dont have to see or be a part of that shit, but trust me it does still exist.

They are agreeing with it not because it is the same thing but that the USA promotes the free exchange of ideas and just because people disagree with their ideas they defend their right for freedom of speech/expression.

So long as their ideas remain ideas and not violent action, it is protected by federal law.

It's not though because I'm pretty sure they're classified as a hate group, and there are certain laws limiting what you can and can't do when you're affiliated with a hate group.

In my town, a kid admitted to being gay, a group of kids beat the shit out of him, and he killed himself that night.

Not everyones from the same town, which is why shit needs to be in place.

Shit isnt bad in progressive areas, it IS bad in others.

I dont worry about being American in the US, I would worry about being American in parts of the middle east.

That is exactly what I said they are free to have their ideas so long as they do not turn to violent action. Hate groups have the same exact first amendment rights as anyone else, as ruled by the Supreme Court in the case of the National Socialist Party of America vs Skokie, Illinois.

And arguably in the USA, they should not be discriminated against just the same as gays should not be discriminated against solely for their beliefs. Their actions are a different matter altogether and they can be held accountable for violent acts.

See my longer post at the end of the first page, since I don't feel like repeating it here haha

I really appreciate your moments of clear arguments in the shitstorm of NSG

I have to look up the laws but I'm pretty sure if your beliefs are discriminating against other people you do not get the same rights you get the right to free speech, and assemble, but that's about it. You are not allowed to impose your beliefs on other people, and not serving someone because of their skin color falls under that category. Again I need to do some research.

This is roughly what I was saying on page 1. If you argue from the first amendment and the Civil Rights Act, citizens of the USA have the right to freely believe whatever they want and a shop owner discriminating against anyone because of their beliefs is arguably unjust. This then not only applies to religious shop owners refusing to serve gay couples, but also to Jewish shop owners refusing to serve KKK members. Both examples are testament to saying "we don't serve your kind around here" and (moral human rights aside) that is arguably against the law in the USA.

Its sad to me that you believe its the right of a business to refuse service to people of color, such as myself, because of the color of our skin.

Wait dad, of what ethnicity are you? I thought you just looked old.

I'm a Pakistani American and no amount of being born in Maine prevented me from getting my booty finger popped in tsa screening

Denying people your services because they're gay is no different than if they were black. i assume most of you support the end of racial segregation and discrimination, so why not gay? this is not about "religious freedom." its about blatant bigotry and discrimination. If you don't agree with gays, fine, as long as you keep it to yourself. But get over your bigotry and serve them. If they can deny service t gays, can i deny service to religious people?

no one is being "forced out of business"

they are being fined for non compliance of laws dealing w/ discrimination

you are free to pay the fines and go about being a bigoted asshole business owner.

hell you will probably get a free go fund me legal account payed for by fellow religious bigots and homophobes w/ extra $$$$.

wow, ngl, sometimes I fucking hate this website.

Imagine if like, you went to a bakers to buy a cake, and they were all like "nah mate you're a skier we don't serve cakes to skiers because some carpenter 2000 years ago says skiers are bad".

Like it's literally a matter of putting an extra man/woman on top of a cake I don't get how people have so little chill.
