I was listening to the cut copy song from tbc and i look over and it has the fischerspooner song from tbc. the legowelt song. and the adult song from tbc as suggestions. mebbe it does know

it DOES know, genius is awesome.

it builds such good playlists. i put together one based on Newera by DL incognitio and all the songs it suggested were in biking or skiing movies.

itunes 8. you can make it create playlists for you from a single song that are all similar. and it will recommend you other songs to download.

its in the new itunes.... it uploads info about your music to teh interwebz then it automaticly creates playlists with music you like.

I JUST TYPED OUT 300 WORDS BUT CRASHED SO FUCK IT

The new Genius feature in iTunes 8 creates the perfect playlist. Just

select a song, click the Genius button, and iTunes generates a playlist

of songs from your library that go great with it. You decide how many

songs appear in your Genius playlist — 25, 50, or 100. Refresh your

Genius playlist to get new results. Or save your Genius playlist so you

always have it.

i don't know if my computer is fucked up and i already quoted this response or its just 2:16 in the morning, but thanks, i rejected that download today, i guess ill get it tomorrow

if your music is in the itunes store, but you got it from elsewhere, it will work. if the itunes store doesnt have the song, it wont be able to use it

haha I WAS JUST GONNA MAKE A THREAD ABOUT THIS. I've found so much good new music in the last 10 minutes thanks to the Genius. Props Apple.

Im pretty dissapointed, I thought genius was going to find music for me that I didnt already own.. I didnt know it was just going to make playlists from your current music..

hahaha i got all sketched out with the other thread saying that it could be a possible way for itunes to find out if you've been downloading music illegally. but now that i see its legit ill try it out. thanks

1) its anonymous so it doesnt register your account to your music from what i understand.

2) for all itunes knows it could be ripped from a cd theres no way for it to know where you got that music from

you would think that with all the effort they put into programming this, they could have thrown in a little code to make itunes skinnable. god i hate apple.

When I try to use it it just tells me to get the genius update in the store menu, but I can't find the update. Anyone know where it is? (or I am just blind...)

they want it to have their design/branding. no 3rd party stuff. just like their hardware.

I agree...genius is amazing. I didn't think it would do such a good job at finding similar music. It must take into account so many different things like pandora to come up with the playlists. I heard from a friend that pandora might be going down the drain though, so at least we'll still have this.

i don't like it i went back to itunes 7. i missed having the mini store. i found that having top songs helped me get the ones i was missing and also thought the 'other users bought' helped me find different artists as well. genius playlist was neat, but i don't need it. im not lazy so i can make playlists on my own. the songs they suggested that i would like sucked though, so no thanks.

the new visualizer was cool as well. i thought about keeping it then i remembered i wasn't a stoner and don't space out to my itunes visualizer.

pandora.com type in any band name or song title and it uses genre, rhythmic qualities, and instrument use to make a personal radio station. you can multiple too, like say hendrix and kanye. very very sick i use it at work all day

wait it doesnt tell you what other shit people bought in the store?

lame.

but dude, your visualizer statement had me pounding on the desk.

Whenever I try to use it, it just recommends songs to buy. How do I make it make a playlist of similar music that I ALREADY OWN?

pick the song you wanna base it off of. then go down to the bottom right and click the little atom looking thing.

dude, fuck this. It doesn't work for most of my music.

Just use that freebie program that makes playlists based on BPM instead of one that has to check into the iTunes store to see if they have the song...

I dont use it because I am sure there is some information storing, so all the shit you have stolen goes from genius, right to the fbi, and they come put you in jail.

A) when you read the agreement it says its anonymous

B) How would it tell the difference between music ripped from a cd and music downloaded illegally.

hey go ahead and believe everything THEY tell you, I dont.

And every torrent and dl comes with a tracker... if you rip a cd its fine, as long as you dont copy or send it to a friend.

anonymous is also a vague blanket term, ip addresses attached to your computer dont need a name, once they have the info... they have your whole life.

holy FUCK.

I wrote a song and put it on itunes... then i did the genius thing knowing it would not work at all. fucking thing gave me 25 songs that fit PERFECT. what. the. fuck.

It's kind of nice but the problem I have with it is it only gives you the "popular" tracks, since a lot of it is based on other iTunes users' habits. I feel like it's dumbing down what I listen to. Not that it's bad to listen to popular tracks but most of my songs aren't getting selected at all by Genius - just the one or two from each album tha everyone knows. I've been using it on my iPod at work though and it's nice for that because everyone knows all the songs and kept asking me how I was amking up such good playlists so quickly.

i love genius, but ive gotten some weird stuff that didn't fit at all

im more of a Pandora fan, but i cant put Pandora playlists on my ipod

so genius is a great idea and its already gotten much better than it was at the beginning, so i feel that very soon it will be as good or better than Pandora

its a win win. apple gets all the consumer information they could dream of by getting your library and you get dope new music

i think apple bought some rights to the human g nome project (ie. pandora)

but pandora is alot better for finding new music
