The history of Saga

Compared to others, you could say I am new to the NS scene. I had a serious question about something I have been curious about. How did Saga become so popular among freestyle skiers. Of course they made high quality stylish gear that fits great but I feel that we wear it not only for function and fashion but as an identifier as well. Saga sponsors boarders as well but the company still seems to be sort of a skiing exclusive. The question stand for jiberish as well. How did these companies out of all others become to prominent among this community? The back story of Saga's "come-up" in the ski industry?

they were both created by skiers, with the needs of the skiing culture in mind. saga saw the demand in the freestyle scene for larger fitting, taller stuff, so they started making that. the popularity comes from the fact that they are a "core" brand that caters to the need of the skiing community. they have started sponsoring snowboarders but that is just expanding their market base, and doesnt make them any less core

jiberish is kinda similar. they were a brand made by skiers that catered to the demand of skiers, and sponsor quite a few of the best current skiers. however, they are a clothing brand, and thus have expanded to a wider audience (trying to get a similar audience to supreme, etc.) however, since they were originally a core brand in skiing that still has a huge influence in skiing, a lot of people prefer them to other streetwear brands

the larger fitting, taller clothing is a big part. i remember having to buy snowboard gear just to get a bigger fit. I feel like siver cartel was really the first to do street apparel for skiers though. i could be wrong. but man i wish siver was still around.

I think a lot of the popularity also has to do with the build quality. There are companies like Virtika that make taller looser fitting apparel for skiers, but I constantly hear people talk about how the quality is sub par (I myself have no experience with them so I can't comment). Also their outerwear just looks sick.

I would just like to point out that Virtika did have some quality issues when they first began several years ago (under the name first drop). But they have made a lot of changes and I have only heard good things about their quality and cusotmer service in the last couple years.

Some of the above posts are correct. The gear was created because no one was really making taller, better fitting and stylish gear. It wasn't necessarily started to be a skiing brand there just weren't any ski brands currently doing it and The owners were involved with a lot of up and coming skiers in the Utah and Mt Hood regions.

From there we have always strived to be well connected with our customer base. That has helped us maintain our core status within the snow sports industry as we continue to expand.

Hello NS! I am not at all doing any marketing research, nor thinking of starting my own outerwear brand, but tell me - why is your business so successful? What are the secrets from going small time to big time, like yourself?

Can't really answer this in a single sentence or with one idea/concept. Success and growth is built on a lot of little things over time. Good ideas, taking risks, the right timing, etc.

you guys hit the timing nail on the head, although that wasn't without also creating your own awesome niche at that time.

Siver was the original freeride skiing apparel company. Unfortunately they did not run their business very well, Saga took advantage of the market that was wide open and skiers loved it and they have been the major player in the game since.
