The History of Newschool Skiing

I know theres been threads on this but I want to start another one. One thats significant with true facts that we can continually add onto. The Newschool History from beginning to now and so on. Heres what I can contribute and correct me if I'm wrong JF Cusson invented the mute grab, Salomon invented the first twin tip ski in 1998, JF Cusson takes gold at first big air event at 1999 Winter Xgames , the inagural US Freeskiing Open holds first slopestyle/big air/skiercross in 2000, 2001 Phil Larose wins first US Open super pipe comp, 2002 Jon Olson won first XGames pipe comp and Tanner Hall takes first Xgames slopestyle. Theres some of the first for the history of newschool what can you contribute?

well hot dogging really gave the inspiration for newschool skiing, and thats when the 1st twin tips were invented, ages ago in the 70s, but you could argue that was more aerial skiing than newschool

first tins were way back in the 30's made out of wood and stuff. K2 had twins before salomon ever did.

Julien regnier threw the same 360 mute the moseley did at the nagano 98 olympics, but got 11th instead of 1st.
 
1999?? Dude you are way off. Hell, I got into newschool skiing in 1998 after watching some of the big air events in Degenerates. There were twin tip skis in the 70s (Olins), I made my own twins in 1997, does that count? People were doing mute grabs before JF and JP, way back in 96. Now I feel old, having to tell you young wipper snappers how it really happened.
 
Let's not argue about the past guys, let's talk about the future. lets work together to progress this sport to where it's going.
 
jan olov aiko, kiruna sweden (like, NOOORTHERN sweden) did the first corner air equal in amplitude to snowboarders. that was epic.
 
^ he did it at one of the largest snowboardcomps that year. so the media coverage was sagnificant.
 
Ah I've tried to remember that name before. You are talking about that quarterpipe in Risgransen, ya? He was on the cover of Powder for that.

Also, don't forget Rossi when talking about the first "new wave" of twintips. Somehow they always get overlooked. See em in State of Mind. Another company, and the one that actually first bought twintips to my attention was Glissade or something. In was in the first issure of "Boards in Motion", however, few people on here probably know what the hell I am talking about. "Perfomers" the video (the new one) as well is something that is often left out of the History and should be there. Along with the guys that sorta were around/exposed before/same time as the NCAF like well Kent Krietler obviously, and Jason Moore, Jimbo Morgan, Andrew Shepard, Marty Gautry (Snowdrifters), Kris Ostness, Josh Loubek and sure there is a few others, that sometimes fail to get the recognition they deserve. As in, it wasnt just the NCAF. Anyway, thats a bit of what I have to say.
 
line started makin skis in '95, twin tips, started makin twin tips like we know em in like 97 if im not mistaken, so saloman did not even come close to inventing the modern twin tip, plus it started way back in the 70s, died out and then came back in the mid to late 90s with line and pbp and such companies pushin the tricks that skiers could do, but a lot of the stuff that people did in the seventies it seems like we are sort of incorporating today, like buttering, not enough credit is givin to the old guys like plake and wayne wong and them
 
Sorry bro, this kind of thread is pointless. NS is getting overrun with so much bullshit info. Like the other dude said, freeskier will give you more facts than on here.
 
well matt it goes something like this:

3 A.D. : Norwegish people invent helmets with horns on them.

175 A.D : Asterix (a funny Nord with the horny helmet) invents skis so that he can get Obelisk to pull him around.

1984.5 A.D.: I bust a 180 in my mommys womb.

1985 A.D.: I enter the world, switch.

1987 A.D.: Hot Dog: The Movie is made

1991 A.D.: I begin skiing.

2005 A.D.: I continue to ski

I'll update it the next time I revolutionize skiing.
 
The Freeskier's buyer's guide has a pretty good history, check it out. And to the guy who thought the Armada comment was "gay," try picking up on the sarcasm next time.
 
the first twin tip was the olin mark V, jp auclair took the first us open big air with a mute 3, brad holmes took second with a 1080. jf cusson took the first big air at the summer x-games with a switch 7......now im getting bored
