The Happening

You know why I liked this movie? Because I'm studying this sort of adaptation that plants are evolving. Plants are sooo much more onto then we think! They do communicate with each other, most indigenous people know they communicate with plants, and there is plenty of evidence supporting plant adaptations to hostility against them. So how long has western civilization been fucking up the earth, a few centuries? Not nearly long enough for plants to evolve completely to it, but they are. They can sense peoples, other animals, emotions. Trees have bad days. Shrubs sense happiness.

Modern science often ridicules this, not because of its "hard to repeat" experimentation but because if it's true then the basis of modern science and the basis our whole fucken civilization is flawed and highly innaccurate.

Don't believe me? Ask Cleve Backster, professional polygraph administrater and tutor. In 1966 he did a polygraph test on a plant. As you know, polygraph needles respond to electrochemical emissions when a subject feels they are threatened, ie in a situation they have to lie. First he tried to put the plants leaves in hot water, no response. Then when he thought about lighting a match under the plants leaves, the needle went berserk. He had no matches, no lighter, not even close. The plant sensed his upcoming action (walking to another room to get the lighter to burn the leaves). Just like the dog that went to the door at home as soon as his owner left work each day. The man left work each day at different times. Explanations please?

Anyway, since this first experience with the plant, Cleve has dedicated his entire life to this research. With some results that have me entirely covinced of, as the movie says, "acts of nature that none of us will ever comprehend".

So, in conclusion, judge the acting and what not, but don't ridicule the plot just yet. I don't think it's as far out and ridiculous as it seems.

the happening didnt happen.. movie sucked and premise for nature's revolt is just dumb.. m night goes from relious to pagen? wtf.

I thought the movie could have been one of the best horror movies ever. Something on the scale of hitchcock's birds. There was just far too much stupid shit in the movie for that to happen though. Acting was horrible, where the fuck did the cars come from when they got off the train, stay ahead of the wind? wtf??.

The experiment I was referring to was the one where plants and other inanimate objects (yogurt, eggs, etc) were hooked up to a polygraph machine to see if a definte reading would show up when they were exposed to mental stress. The thought was that all life forms have the abilty to communicate with each other in the most primitive of ways, and then if you thought about a plant, say, catching on fire, it would show a reaction of "fear" on the polygraph. Mythbusters did it, got a result, but were unable to replicate it again or with a EKG, something that would have actually been conclusive. Basically, they decided that their results were a false positive due to vibrations in the air or something. And how is mythbusters bullshit at all? It's straight scientific research and experimentation.

Yeah that tells me nothing at all. I knew all that. As I said, its hard to repeat, that's why Backster has been ridiculed. What is needed, as Backster believes, is true intent, otherwise why would the plant respond? If it knew were not being serious about harming it, why would it react? This is why he uses random people and random plants in random places to conduct his experiments, this is why modern science or mythbusters, cannot beleive it, its hard to repeat. But by using these randoms he has repeated it. He has shown these results to other scientists who have continuesly denied it with no explanation, they simply don't want to believe it. As for movements and vibrations, I think the most amateur scientist would account for that. Its been repeated far too many times over 40 years to not be true. I wonder how long mythbusters spent on it before declaring it false? A week? maybe two? Experiments take time and alot of thought. Maybe even other conscious levels. Is that in prescription science? No. Mythbusters, pfffff.
