Ian you got a great idea, but you sound just like every pro skier that says that, and the sad thing of it is, when you say backcountry, it is no better, it still involves jibbing tree's, and building huge jumps in the b.c., in all actuality the landing is softer and EVERYONE says it. What skiing truely needs is for kids to just go out and kill it however they chose, whether they suck in the park but can ski tree's super good, than so be it, they can be a sick tree skier. Instead of trying to set a new trend, everyone just needs to develop or follow their own personal trend in skiing. Like me for example, i have days where i want to get in the park to hone my skills and get better, but i'd rather ski through the tree's and ski all over the mtn, than worry about where i can transfer my freestyle skills to. Everyone should just follow what they love to do and do it, not follow the crowd
