they are trying to change people's perception of what happened. ignoring minority groups, excluding hip hop and including country into "great american achievements" is just how the conservative leaders want their america to be.

Right wing media, and movements like these share a lot of similarities with previous hyper nationalist movements (think germany).... frightening
 
wouldnt it be great if there were expanded school choice so if you didnt like what your kids were being subjected too you could just switch schools? yeah that would be awesome.
 
the problem is these schools are taxpayer funded. if it was a private school that would be one thing, teach whatever you want, but as part of the public school system they shouldnt.

i know you think the public school system should be abolished, but this isnt about what you think it should be, its about what it is today. and with the way it is today, they shouldnt be allowed to do this.
 
i dont think it should be abolished. im just in favor of expanding the opportunities i was afforded due to my upper middle class upbringing to children less fortunate than myself.

let the consumer (children, parents) make the choice where their kids can go to school. sadly because of the high cost associated with private schooling this is out of reach for a large number of Americans. the public school would still exist. but if parents were not happy with the education their children were receiving then their kids wouldnt need to go there.
 
its not that simple though. how do the "good" schools manage to accommodate those who flock to them?

how do people get to the "good" schools, if the nearest one is miles and miles away?
 
good point but irrelevant to this issue. this is public education, regardless of whether it should be this way, or not it is. like you say choosing the school you go to for the majority of our nation is not possible, or practical. when the mandantory education you receive is being biased in this way, with no real regard to the importance of being educated about historic figures and events that shaped our nation and world its pretty fucked and, and i feel really scary that people can even think about doing this, let alone put it in the process of actually being implemented.
 
o i know its not that simple. trying to play out all the pros and cons of school vouchers, tuition tax credits, etc on NS would be stupid.

i will answer your questions with a question. hehe how to popular businesses accommodate when more customers flock to them?

transpiration would be either their own problem. or perhaps a whole new market could erupt there as well.

not to mention in high density urban areas im sure a market for a high level education could exist. with such a large customer base in a relatively concentrated area.

not to mention i could imagine public schools cleaning their act up as well. they wouldnt want to lose funding when the students leave. IE a profit motive, skin in the game, whatever.

because they vote on funding of education, that is how the fuck. and its been happening since our public school system was created.
