The font

Did you guys change the header font again or am I tripping?

Faunt most certainly did change!

We updated it to the same font as we use in all of our branding. There's a homepage refresh coming too, which is going to look a whole lot better. Header change went out today, and you guys will see a beta version of the new homepage soon.

AWESOME!

I mean we've actually finally been in the process of really modernizing the place. There's loads more to come, but there has been significant (though subtle) changes in the last 6-12 months.

Loving the new Faunt bishop, can I suggest a tweak for the new homepage?

I think the news upvotes are still way over powering to everything else, for example right now the very top of the homepage is a news article with 2 upvotes but there is videos with 60,70+ upvotes below it and photos with 20+ upvotes below it. Let the videos shine!

Looking forward to the update

There's a significant change to the way this is handled incoming, part of which you can see live.

One thing that has become apparent is that good news tends to get overlooked. We now have Twig in a full-time position creating news, and a crew of other members of the Journalist team who are writing original content.

We have made the decision internally to allow the edit staff to overpower the ranking algorithm. We didn't want to go fully back to the old days where it was a 100% editorial decision as to what was featured, but we also wanted to put more control of curation into the hands of our edit staff. Same with Videos - Evan Heath is our new Content Director and is in charge of ensuring that the best edits (and the stuff we produce) can be featured with maximum visibility.

So you will see content which hasn't earned its own spot yet out ranking other things. We believe that having a human touch is going to provide the missing part of what the heat ranking algorithm didn't deliver, which is a more consistent delivery of high quality content right at the top.

Who would've known! That's actually kind of sweet, I was under the impression that all news that outpowered other content. But hey sounds like you guys found a good solution for it

Thanks for the reply

There are different weightings applied to media types. So News gets a little more sauce than videos do.

However a lot of that is going to change in favor of the top stuff having a layer of curation in it. Won't affect your ability to get featured without an Editor's nod - but the Editors will have a lot more power now.
