The first Orage contest

Am I the only one who thinks the first contest is bullshit? I mean, the idea is good, to make a summer edit, but it has to be from the camps? What about people in the Southern hemisphere? What about people doing summer skiing in Europe? They have just as good if not better parks there in my experience, and what about the kids on the EC? As if camp wasn't expensive enough, airfare from the EC is infinitely more expensive than the West.

The contest is aimed at probably less than 10% of the NS population for the 2 camps, which cost thousands of dollars to go to, so the majority of the kids there don't even need the gear.

I think they should re-structure the contest so that it IS just a summer edit, whether it be EC summer ramps, a park people built on a patch of snow in the mountains, European and Southern hemisphere parks, or even the summer camp, and that would create a much better/ more fairly spread contest.

Post your thoughts.

i agree its not being fair to others whod want to make an edit and went to another camp other than windells or coc. theyre probably the ones sponsoring the contest tho

I think Malcolm is probably right on this one. Where the goods come from definitely affects how it's used. A born and bred EC kid, I know the pain of the summer months and the sacrafices people make to be able to ski. Do I technically think it's fair? Mmmm not so much. But you can't write off the kids at camp as unworthy of the prizes because they signed the check on the hefty price tag that is summer camp. I know kids who work their ASSES off to try and foot the bill for summer camp, doing it themselves even if it takes more than one summer of work. So for these kids, they totally deserve to be able to enter for some shwag-- so easy on how you word who is worthy of winning.

I'm still on your side for the argument as a whole though...

Well that's why I left it as "most the kids" because while it's true there are those devotees who work hard to get there, the far greater majority just have mom and dad pay.

I think Orage is sponsoring this, not the camps however, and I think they should change the contests so that not just the summer camp kids have 3 chances to win, while the rest of us really only have 2.

It's still unevenly spread though. The people who filmed at camp have 3 chances to win the gear, and the rest of us have only 2.

Its a contest, not a constitutional right. Take'r easy :P

I would be cool if they opened it up to everyone but its their contest and as such its there call to say who can and who cant enter.

You know if you look at Round #2 its open to everyone!

Summercamps are sick... why not win some shit if you're going?

hey if you wanted to go bad enough, you could make it to the camps. or at least one of the public parks. so you got to ask yourself, how much do you want this orage gear?

cause it's sick enough that you're going, and people seem to get free stuff while there too. im in the opinion that it should be open to everyone who went summer skiing, not exclusive to the lucky bastards who could go to camp (some of us have to work)

they're only doing it for two camps, not the others or public park. i also dont get the cell phone picture part, the quality sucks.

.

Bishop you know it's only right.

And I don't have a problem with the cell phone thing. The quality will be crap, but everyones quality will be crap at least. I don't remember seeing a number to send the picture to though...

Actually you can e-mail pictures to your phone now, if you wanted a higher quality picture to be sent in from a camera.

i think its silly to make it only for the two camps. im going to momentum...not like im good enough to win the comp...but it would be nice to have the chance. i dont know about everyone else who is going to camp, but i work my ass off all year to save up money to be able to go and pay for the whole thing myself...and when they only open it to 2 camps it is like they are saying because i chose to go to momentum im not good enough for the contest or like i didnt work as hard as everyone else to get to camp. im sure that wasn't their intention...but thats how it makes me feel.

Exactly, and I don't have the money to go to camp, and I didn't try to earn it, but I have Baker to ski, and we bust our ass building our own park, bringing our own jibs, and hiking our jumps. Are we not worthy of winning free gear because we're cheap but working 100x harder?
