anyone have any great stories about the first time they rode up to a rail and hit it...

i bailed so hard my thumb was so swelled up ... my back was all fucked... it was a big rail tho. stupid for hitting it.

Oh I thought you meant the first skier to hit a rail ever. I remember the first time i ever hit a rail, i slid it too. well actually first time EVER was on a snowboard at Beaver Creek, I never got the whole thing. But on skis I was at Vail and it was a tiny baby rail but i got it after 4 tries.

i got on it my first time and forgot to 90 out of it cas i was so suprised i did it hahah, and then the second time i didnt commit and my skis flew out from under me, and the third time i did it clean.

I was with david crichton and the NCD ski team at Camp Fortune, everyone was sessioning a crappy box lay out but ignored a 10 foot down rail. Friends told me to give it a try so i just decieded to giv'er. Bailed the first few times totally swallowing my pride. But dave was giving me tips and my buddies were rooting me own. After a few more tries i stomped that shit.

 
I started on a fdf, nedless to say, I never made it to the first kink. Then I went over to a 20 tube rail, and only did a 45 on, so my ski flew out from under me, and I landed on my ribcage. That hurt really bad.

My first was a backyard rail, 3 feet high and 12 feet long. I caught an edge, pole planted in the ground when I fell, and landed with my face against the pole. We got it on tape though.

mine was a 15' flat bar that was raised 3' off the ground....I slid off halfway the first time and the second time I got it. I used a pair of Volkl P20 race skis to do it.

haha i think that rail at vail was my first one too...was it the tiny rainbow? i did that then moved up to the trap rail...all in about an hour after the lifts closed

first rail on skis was a little one like on the snow and 2 feet long and I still fell off and landed on my head

first rail on a snowboard was a 15ft long box, I did a boardslide and stomped it first T

 
well my first real rail like not a box or some little piece of metal but the first real rail was like a 10 foot flat rail went up like perfect but then skis sliped out from under me and fell back and landed on my side on the rail then fell off.. the last rail i did i remember real well no snow broke my leg

the first time i tried sliding on skis i couldnt so i gave up and went back to snowboarding and then switched back over and learned pretty quick...i started with boxes but the first rail i slid was a 15 ft double barrel rail....fell back first time...slid it second

My first rail ever was about 4 years ago. It was 4 ft long log laid on its side and worn down from boarders sliding it. I was my brand new (at the time) yellow 1080s, and I slid it no problem. I thought, "hey this is easy" so I went home and built a 12 ft long flat rail out of an old pole for a volley ball net. After hrs of work drilling holes and screwing the thing into two 2x4s at a T angle, I went for it and my skis caught their front edge and I went face forward and bashed my head on it.

But I got it at the end of the day

 
it was a 8 foot shotgun at Okemo. my friend who snowboarded went first, didnt have enough speed cause he is a pussy. I didnt speed check once and popped as hard as i could, landed at the end of the rail, slipped back and broke my wrist. I lay on the ground moaning and this guy in tight blue pants comes up and slides it perfectly with a 270 off. im like fuck i got owned

Haha, my first time was on a rail about 8 feet long and round. So I come up, only spin about 30 degrese, and just fall. Then the second time I go up and realy jump on the rail with a full 90 and my feet were to close together and I flipped backwards.

Ok it was last year at killington. my first year on twins and actually freeskiing. So i go to the Mini park at rams head. It has 2 rails 1 box and some small jumps. I hit this 9 foot rail and im sliding on it like ARHH and i fall sideways on my finger. I thought it was pretty funny

My first rail i had no idea what i was doing so i just skied up to it and stopped kind of instead of jumping on which made it so much harder, but i sessioned it for a whole day and finally got it.

my first rail, well box was about a 20ft down box, it was set up for a rail jam so it was realy angled down, it was christmas eve (my first day sking in 7 years) and i hit it almost slid it but at the end fell backwards my helmate was a bit lose so it fell off, my goggles fell off to i hit my face on ice steps and had a huge wicked cut up face and i have a scare on my eye

I've found that mailbox's are much harder to stick then rails/boxes, because of the shape, and the fact that the one at smuggs is a rust bucket.

mine was a box at sugarloaf, the box was wide enough so I just slid it going fowards, but then I decided that was gay and I did it right on a old pair of bandits the shaped skis, the only problem was that it was wood and wasn't waxed, so I basically stopped suddenly, and fell on my side. My first real rail was two years ago, at sugarloaf, a tiny one in the ground by the superpipe and I greased it first time.

This is the first rail I ever slid, it took me at least like 15 trys to get it and then one time randomly I just commited and slid the whole thing, it was one of the best feelings in the world. (This picture is the 2nd time I got it.)

yeh jake my first rail was the c-box a dag...i sacked myself hard core on it too...but my first actual RAIL was at dag one dy last season when steve was teaching me and i hit the little 10 footer at the bottom of the pipe and slide half of it and junmped off....it was the greatest and most redonculous feeling in my whole life...i will never forget it...i remember thinking..."shit this is easy"

my first rail was a 15ft box at Stoneham. I didn't pop or use any speed to get on the box. I barly 90'ed and my tips caught the box and front fliped onto my ass. Clearly the sickest #1 attempt ever trying a f flip and a rail.

 
it was this weird round one that was super thin and it was a ride one so i went up to it, and i was going super slow and my skis slid so fast i fell off the side after like a foot. embarassment all around

Well boxes, I took two tries, on I fell back on the hip, second time greased it switch out.

Rails, I fell over them and off the side. Took about 10 tries on a 10-12 foot stock rail.
