The end of the spin to win ?

yeah we ve all been whining about that spin to win thing, but in the KOS comp a switch 7 double tail grab won vs a switch 12 and simon got 3rd place with a massive bio 7. colby threw an amazing switch misty 7.

after the comp tj said he sould have gone for a flatspin instead of his sw 12. maybe finally comps are taking the right direction : technical and stylish grabs to win.

props to the judges

Ya I think its just too hard to make anything over a 9 or 10 look good enough to win consistently. On the other hand, at big air competitions, everyone in the competition can do a nice 9 or 10 so whoever goes balls out gets the points.

spin to win won't ever stop because it is just more difficult in my opinion. It's very tough to develop a dope style and throw less rotations with a sick grab but big spins are incredibly tough. i just think there should be more comps based on style and not difficulty. wouldn't that make the most sense? or originality

as long as televised comps like the xgames are around, spin to win will b what it takes to win. Judges at those comps will award more points because that's what the general public wants to see.

I think the smaller comps are where you're going to see smaller spins and style as more of a factor.

very well put, but look at people like andrew taylor, hes throwing 1620's but he makes pencil steeze look good, sure he isnt throwing grabs in (that i know of) but still, a 16 is a 16 and its just plain nuts

I thought that, hands down, the best trick was TJ Shiler's 1080 switch and 1260 switch. Those other tricks looked really easy and TJ was spinning so fast it looked like a blur. I thought that was really neat looking and it must be way harder to do that than those other tricks that Simon and the other random no-namers who were in the competition. I have never heard of any of those other guys before and I am sure I won't hear much about them in the future if they keep doing 720s in competitions. If there is ever going to be progression people need to start to spin really really fast. Even faster than TJ because that would be naturally much harder than doing a 720 grab. If these people making jumps need to realize that they need to be bigger if we are ever going to start seeing 1600s and 1800s. I think these guys can do it too if the jump is big enough. I can spin a 720 and I did not enter that compeition. If I lived in Stokhome I would have done it.

so I just went and watched the vid of Andrew Taylor landing a 1620 .. that video is nuts he definately has that trick dialed and it is very impressive. But I would not say that it looks good. Very Impressive though

i dont even pay attention to judging. i watch the comps because its sweet to see that many good skiers. the judging should only really matter to the competitors, im watching to see the tricks. case in point that x games big air a couple years back (the sw 10 fest), pep (19th place) was my winner because that sw 7 was way nicer than any of the sw 10s

yeah kang flips are getting kind of old when their the only thing he's throwing but its still a pretty nuts trick

That's kinda true. I think he almost had it dialed enough to make it really steezy. There was an almost stylish effect from his spinning, but still remaining in his steezy mute position, and staying on the same axis (not wobbling or being pencilled out). I must say TJ is the only one so far who can make big spins look decent.

But I think Dumont should have won. That was crazy steezed out.

that's mature. im with loop digga on this one man, 12's are gay, but only because you see them too much. If they only came around once in a while then people would be like "whoa shit son, you see that?" but instead people forget that there are other ways to impress and just stick to the same tricks. Down with spin to win

TJ's switch 12 was sick, and considering the jump looked pretty damn small it was super stylie. But seriously I don't know what he was thinking when he decided to spin a 1260 in a competition called Kind of Style...

Permin slaysssssss. totally deserved it. I cant stand that switch 14 shit and whatnot. If its a king of style comp, you wanna do somethin with style.

its too hard to judge is evrybody is only throwing 7s. the evolution of the sport is harder tricks
