The End of Rails

Alright, I was at the East Coast Movie Tour in NYC last night and I realized a few things. 1) Sarah Burke is amazingly hot 2) Mike Wilson is the man, and 3) Rails are dying out. First off there weren't many rails done in yearbook, but when sick rails were greased (such at the double trap rail) no one cheered or anyhting, it was like no big deal. Big mountain is taking over the ski world and rails are now on the back burner in my opinion. What do you think?

No, even though A Boronowski says they're just a phase, I think they're here to stay. They're still in snowboarding, and every ohter extreme sport. Skiing is no different.

I see skiing going more towards urban rails, jumps, everything, and towards big mountain stuff, with just having the park for training.

i think u r wrong. i dont think rails r dying out at all, sure there are not many in Yearbook but thats cuz its MSP, did u see ne of the am movies, they are full of urban rails, i hope skiing goes the way that snowboarding did, either BC kicks or urban rails, and a few shots of park inbetween. certain skiers tho, such as Anthony Pollard do hardly ne rails so i guess u r atleast right in that respect, but i certainly dont think they r dying out.

ATLredneckskier, brilliant minds think alike, u took the words out of my mouth, actually u just beat me by 5 seconds.

I'm saying that like people would rather see big mountain then rails now. Like I said at the premier people were going crazy for a 30 ft cliff drop and yet I didn't hear a word when some sick rails were done (except for candides corked 810)

same thing happened 4 me but that was because all the CU students dont know what freeskiing is they think that hucking a huge cliff in the coolest thing u can do on skis.

rails are certanily not dying out. not with all the tech shit that is being done now and has yet to be done... what we see now is usually far superior in skill and difficulty than we saw like 3 years ago; not dying out

your so wrong you dont even know it

Moving to BC really opened up my eyes to what skiing is really about. HINT: Skiing isn't about tiny verticals, shit talking, and private clubs galore. Get the fuck out of Glen Eden and Craigleith or Caledon, and get real.'-what jib this thinks of me

i want to see hugo do a rale.. that would be intense

windells holiday sesh, dec 26-Jan 2

'i ski powder only, not park'

Rails progressed so much, especially Iannick's 360 switch up. I think we will see a 540 switch up within the next year, maybe 2. As long as it keeps progressing, whether it is just new tech stuff done or style, there will be rails.

i think park rails are getting kinda lame, i mean how many times to u want to hit the same rail or watch some one hit it. i think urban is cool b/c its a different setting and u can get way more creative. park rails are fun for a bit but get boring.

`

you didn't watched high five man...

rails aren't a phase, well I don't think so there is plenty of jibbers in freeskiing it's just that you don't see yearbook for rails cause it's all bc stuff or almost

MSP productions don't have many rails, they like big mountain better. Rails are here to saty, its just that you prob will see less and less of them in movies. Reason being that railslides get repetitive to watch. We will still see railslides, just these railslides will be more technical and/or urban rails

you're an idiot, there's a huge difference between the crowd at an msp premier than say a poorboyz or level1 premier

you can build a thousand bridges, but you suck one dick and your known as a cocksucker.. not a bridge builder.

apE

the crowd at msp is people who are too cool for warren miller but don't know anything else about other film companies.

Urban rails will live forever

Jibbi, Eating and Steeze the three essential parts of my being

i think that rails are here pretty much to stay, they are making them mor and more technical now and so theres a lot more tricks to be done too. rails are sick and so are bc kickers, as long as it's skiing

*THINK SNOW*

You probably think rails are dead and boring because the rails you ride at Mount Snow are LAME! id be bored with rails too if i had to ride snow all the time. same layout for 4 years = DULL.

I don't think rails are dead because, let's face it, how many of us will get the opportunity to hit big booters in the backcountry? For the average (non-pro skier) like most of us, rails and tabletops at resorts will still dominate most of our skiing.

I think its a bad thing for our sport when people say the future of our sport is backcountry. One of the things that makes freeriding so popular is that it something we can all do at our local resort's terrain parks and halfpipes or even urban areas. Big mountain skiing's been done before and sure we're adding spins and flips, but like I said before, how many of us will ever get to do than. I hope the focus stays on terrain parks and halfpipes so they will continue to grow at our ski areas.

who do you think helped progress rails to this day, id say ianick, his 360 switch up and his 540 disaster to swtich 5050, and his tehcnical stuff like 270 on switch up 270 out, stuff like that makes kids wana do it more

this is the stupidest thread. '''UM I THINK PARK SKIING IS DYING, I WENT TO SOUL PURPOSE AND THEY WEREN'T SKIING ANY PARK.......'''

HAHAHAH ^^ EXACTLY what i just said to my roomate .. 'That's like going to a TGR film and saying rails are over'.. If you watched forward you would think big mountain was a thing of the past. It all depends on what you like in a movie, and what company you go to. MSP is typically very big moutnain oriented.

rails are here to stay, unlike snowboard, skiers can only really go the one way,(some skier 5-0)but snowboarders can tweak, to noseslides much easier, and more, it is that when a skier does a rail it is always the same. That is why we arent seeing skiers do rails in movies unless it is a big trick such as the six kink, or the corked 810 to rail. Skiers need to do more, one foot grinds(cant rememeber what they are called)

there is so much progression to be had by skiers on urban rails, its silly

^GET REDTAPE AND WATCH GAGNIER'S SEG. Ton's of 50/50 stuff. Redatep shows a lot of technical stuff. Rails are basically the only thing I can do, because I live in Atlanta. I don't need much (or any at all) to do rails, and I can think about skiing anytime I see a rail, whether or not its cold or snows here. So Watch other movies before you make judgements about stuff, which means WATCH REDTAPE, it's defineatley worth the $20 or however much it costs.

spyder... you have some learning to do. skiers can do nose presses and shiz now. much more than doing rails one way.

*all hail to the mighty gods of snow*

rail sliding is just starting to progress man how can it fade out?? its normal that msp doesnt have rails its a fuckin big mountain movie, look at josh bermans movie and you wont say that big mountain is taking over man

stoneham rprsnt

rail's are fun as fuck and i dont care if i dont get cheer's when i slide them im gonna do them tell i cant ski anymore, Big mountain is the shit and i will always do that aswell.

..Seth Pistols rock my fuckin socks..

The crowd at Yearbook is not there for the rails, hence the lack of appreciation for the few rails that the BIG MOUNTAIN film company chooses to film. think before posting a thread like this, please.

it's all about the natural stuff, like urban rails and BC cliffs wind lips corice, thats it

Don't take it for granted

Many skiers would love to ski big mountain lines. Unfortunately, many live places where big lines would be about 400 feet. Rails on the other hand, exist nearly everwhere. Many small resorts, particularly in the midwest, can attract skiers and boarders with good rails, boxes etc.

p.s. I wanna see a mono-boarder hit a rail.

look at it this way. as long as rails are fun and people enjoy doing them they will never go away.

haha the only pictures on the media i look at are rails. BACK COUNTRY COSTS TOO MUCH MONEY! And lazy kids don't like to climb! haha woo LAY-Z!!!

i dunno

i recently watched a few kids promo vids and they were allll rails boxes and more rails and boxes seriously nobody skiis anymore

'skis are like girls , the more you have the better'

Its been said a few times.

But I cant stress enough.

WAKE UP! YOU WERE AT AN MSP PREMIER!

I think you are going to continue to see rails, but more so on video than anything. Rails are getting more and more tech and guys are taking longer to grease them. This becomes more and more expensive with 16mm. The higher end digi companies (i.e T3 L1P, OTP) are going to continue to have insane rails (I think PBP will get super sick rails too!), but it seems too burdensome for 16mm to try and keep up with digi shooters. You have infinite attempts to make the rail on digi and alot of the athletes in these films are rail gurus. Also, alot (not all though, not Garnier, Chrighton, Peter, Simon, etc) of the athletes seemed to have moved on from rail filled seggies.

So Who's the Jacuzi Casanova?

That's him right there. They call him that cause he was all up in it...lovin' it strong.

i hate people generalizing about what kind of skiiers go to what company's premiers. i go to the warren miller shows because they basically come to me. the ECMT, and PBP/level 1 tours are a 4 hour drive............

hell, the one's i don't get to see in person i buy.........

ugggggh, just my rant, take it however you will.
