The Eighty Six, best ski movie i have seen yet.

Stept productions movie this year, The Eighty Six is unbelievable! My favorite seg is probably the Shea Flynn seg however they are all equally insane! the urban in it better than The Education of Style for sure and the filming makes it like All.I.Can for urban. I highly recommend this movie to any skier who wants to get stoked for skiing.

P.S. the music choice is prime too

I wish there was a little more story, like the mini-docu thing they put out, and a little more of a laid back/fun vibe. That being said, that's not what it is, and for what it is, it's good. Lots of different shots, and you know each one was a butt load of work.

Less story, less emotional backdrop.. the better. I expect to see nothing but pure freestyle excellence from Stept. Nothing more and nothing less.

Music wasn't great but the filming and skiing are always sick from stept! Defiantly recommend any stept movie

They can watch sunny. Its got sick urban allong with huge bc booters, park, pillow lines, big mountain,

Sunny was the best ski movie ive ever seen.

Network > Weight > 86

Yeah i said it, I don't care about the goddamn hipster filming/editing. I'm a fucking hobby-ist skier. them guys think its a job but they sell their movies to kids who ski as a hobby and will accomplish more with their lives than being a fucking ski bum.

Entertainment, entern-mo-fcking-ment. Just like clowns.

/drunkpost

Stept killed it, most progressive gnarly urban to date, really put skiing urban to another level. Editing and filming, music, the parent part, and Flynn's segment were all so dope.

hipster filming and editing? interesting.

Also, they ski hand rails for fun and yeah they make movies to sell but they're just like you. They established in the intro (and throughout the movie) they are very crew based, they film with their homies and they love to hang out with each other and hit rails together. I like that they have a crew and thats who they film with, no one else.

You are drunk so maybe you should rethink what you just said.

hipster? or are you talking about the best filming and editing stept has ever done. fuck off dude. 86 shat on weight and network and they were both amazing. like literally the best ski movie i have seen. nothing has gotten me more pumped since WAR. fuck you x3 +4

/drunkpostaswell except mine isnt fucking stupid

and tot he people above me, you buy stept movies to see something other then urban?

lol u so dumb

Personally, I think it goes Weight > The Eighty Six > Network. Granted, I haven't seen Network in a while but I think this is an accurate representation of my level of enjoyment out of the last three Stept movies. They are all fucking sick, btw. If you haven't seen all three yet, you are missing out.

Quite funny to reread my post this morning. On the other hand I kinda agree with my thought process. Skiing > Filming/Editing. For all I care I could watch the whole thing even though it was filmed with gopro follows. Also how more serious is this "hitting urbanz in da city" thing gonna get? I understand from the POV of a filmer the technicality of the intro, but holy SWAT tactic team seriousness.

@Crotchkiller You'll love this, EoS > 86

@eheath Yeah I agree not all of them are ski bums, but I really couldn't care less about their personality when they remove their ski mask. I wouldn't give a fuck about a guy named Cam Riley if it wasn't for the crazy shit he does on a pair of skis. If you've gained "pro" status in the industry, your skiing should do the talking for you, unless you're another one of these cookie cutter newcomers. Less blahblah, less filming shenanigans, more skiing.

Now considering 86, Weight and Network all had a fair amount of lifestyle shots, which one had the most riding content? Network still sitting on top.

Huge IMO here.

Honestly, I agree skiing wise.

I loved 86 before everyone goes completely apeshit, aand i hated the editing of EoS the first few watches. As a finished product Stept is a better movie no question.

But. As stylish, gnarly and beautifully filmed as the 86 was, Henrik and Phil's parts had me shouting what the fuck at the screen a lot more often. In purely skiing terms, I enjoyed EoS more. They are both brilliant though, everyone should buy and watch both.

i have yet to finish EOS. i can't stand the editing. it literally ruined the skiing. i have watched the eighty six more then 25 times.

This response has nothing to do with what I said, I was talking about how they are a group of friends that go out and film. They're the same crew as they were in network.

As for content, obviously 86 had less content and it was shorter. But, last year was shitty. Why do you think l1p filmed mostly in alaska and the rest in denver? there wasn't any snow anywhere else. Midwest had a little snow for a bit, denver had some snow for a little bit and thats it. It was a rough year. As for weight, i feel like there was alot of skiing content, so im not sure what you're talking about. It sounds like you just really like network.

Mhh then why did you bring this up in the first place? I never said anything about the group vs solo aspect. Also yeah Weight definitly had plenty of content, just not as much as Network. Hence the second place (Network > Weight > 86) on my list. Now that almost everyone saw the 86, give your Network DVD another spin or head to http://vimeo.com/stept/videos to watch the segments. Still not convinced?

In reality, ski companies should just do the same line over rocks and grass, last year at Squallywood USA, Home of the 1960 Winter Olympic Games, we got -25" in first few months of winter, I wanna see a movie where they shred rocks and grass and get the fuck after it. Not run away crying to Alaska, having minimal snow is no excuse #radderthanyou

I think that you're be slightly over critical. The editing didn't ruin anything, that's the way they wanted it to be viewed. B-Dog's seggy was my favorite by far, and I've never been a huge fan of his style until I saw this movie.

Can you give me the definition of hipster filming/editing? I've never heard of hipster filming and editing in my life, and I watch films/videos/shorts/edits everyday and attend film school.

"Them guys think its a job but they sell their movies to kids"

I'm sorry, but... are you out of your mind? Do you know how many companies on this planet direct their products strictly to kids? Are you saying people at "Pixar" are a joke?

The funny this is, Stept are kids, the oldest ones in the crew are Alex Martini + Cam Riley at the ages of 24, that's a damn young crew to be making some of the top free-skiing videos in the world, along with many other crews out there.

"Will accomplish more with their lives than being a fucking ski bum"

Alex Martini moved to Colorado mad young skiing park, now travels skiing powder and owns a great company filming what he loves to do. At 24.

Nick Martini is 22, sponsored by The North Face, one of the biggest companies in the world, has been traveling the world since a young teenager and owns a great company filming what he loves to do.

Cam Riley has his shit on lock when it comes to filming, directing and editing and has made a name for himself in the skiing industry out of jack shit. Congrats on being nominated for "Best Male Performance". At 24

All the skiers in the crew have traveled the world, competed in competitions, have great connections with many companies and get to do what they love for a living. Avg age, 19.

I don't know where your head is at, but most people I know at that age haven't even come close to experiencing one of those things.

"Skiing > Filming/Editing...For all I care I could watch the whole thing even though it was filmed with gopro follows"

That's what Newschoolers is for. We put a lot of time talking/planning our season, taking long strenuous trips, and really focusing on making the best cinematic/edited movie we can, so if ski movies don't cater to you, don't buy them. Our first priority is to make a good film that people find interesting in itself, not to put a GoPro on Shea and have him ski through Park Lane.

" I understand from the POV of a filmer the technicality of the intro, but holy SWAT tactic team seriousness."

Funny, because you could probably talk to any ski production out there, filming urban, and they would tell you that the intro is pretty spot on. In fact, that would be a pretty casual case of filming in a 'restricted area'.

"I wouldn't give a fuck about a guy named Cam Riley"

You give enough of a fuck about skiing to have 1,788 posts and to donate to Newschoolers. Cam Riley is one of a kind in the skiing industry, doing some pretty absurd stuff. Normally someone like you, who cares that much about skiing, are pretty interested in the industries athletes.

Hey, good job at building most of your argumentation on a drunk post with most sentences took straight out of context.

"I'm sorry, but... are you out of your mind? Do you know how many companies on this planet direct their products strictly to kids? Are you saying people at "Pixar" are a joke?" As I said, straight out of context, 2/10 for the effort though.

"Alex Martini moved to Colorado mad young skiing park, now travels skiing powder and owns a great company filming what he loves to do. At 24.[...]" Cool, you might want to read my sober post where I agreed not all of em are ski bums right now. But please, enlighten me on how long and how well they plan on doing what they love "for a living" ? "Kids who will accomplish more" are individuals who have conscience of their future, and are able to sit the fuck down and think about working their asses off now, study hard and build themselves a solid future so they can live well and STILL be able to ski while living comfortably. I might also add that getting behind proper health insurance would be wise in case you "bust yourself on dem skis", but that would never happen to the Stept kids uh?? Eager to see Nick Martini walk on those busted knees 20 years from now. The society we live in is fucked up, I agree, but its either you rant about it and hide behind the "determinism" that you were meant to ski and school was not really fitting your lifestyle, or you find ways to be wiser than the game and fight through it. Oh so you ski for a living at age 24? Your sponsors paid you to ski around the globe? Please, please, give me an update 10 years from now on how well your sponsors are taking care of you and how you're STILL not a skibum. Sking "as a job" and decent living are miles away from each other, sorry to burst your bubble.

"That's what Newschoolers is for. We put a lot of time talking/planning our season, taking long strenuous trips, and really focusing on making the best cinematic/edited movie we can, so if ski movies don't cater to you, don't buy them. Our first priority is to make a good film that people find interesting in itself, not to put a GoPro on Shea and have him ski through Park Lane." Pretty lame argument really. I bought the 86 to watch kids bust their ass on gnarly urbans in the comfort of my living room. When I feel like watching park laps, you're right (yes you're right!) I'll plug in to NS and load up any K2 Summer School episodes.

"Funny, because you could probably talk to any ski production out there, filming urban, and they would tell you that the intro is pretty spot on. In fact, that would be a pretty casual case of filming in a 'restricted area'." I'm still wondering if you red my post covering your left eye. I'll state it again because im a nice guy who buy your movies every year and like to give criticism : "I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT LIFESTYLE". I would never, ever consider hitting an urban spot with such seriousness. I ski solely and only for having fun and clear my head up. It baffles me how intense the whole industry is getting. If its really that restricted and you gotta act all SWAT-like to get the shot, don't show it, you're killing the vibe right there. Has the intro stoked me to the point I wanted to get out and ski? Not a bit. Next thing you know upcoming skiers will put how many infractions they pulled this season next to their promo.

"You give enough of a fuck about skiing to have 1,788 posts and to donate to Newschoolers. Cam Riley is one of a kind in the skiing industry, doing some pretty absurd stuff. Normally someone like you, who cares that much about skiing, are pretty interested in the industries athletes." Again, straight out of context "[...] if it wasn't for the crazy shit he does on a pair of skis". Shall I elaborate even though your argument makes no sense now? I give a fuck about adding personality to your skiing, not the other way around.

My whole opinion on this (I believe I owe it, since I own the 86) is that I watch ski flicks for the skiing (obviously) and I couldn't care less about "techy" filming only another filmer would enjoy. Now I see you're next point, I wouldn't be able to watch all the crazy shit Cam is doing if it wasn't of you, the filmer. The difference here is that without ski flicks or edits, you wouldn't be a ski filmer anymore. While as a skier who's been skiing since he was 2, I will still take that first chair every chance I get.

Puzzled,
I must've missed all the lifestyle scenes in the 86. The intro shows how they set up an urban session. It's like not it's them sitting around playing videogames. Most people would be interested in seeing how this happens. Sorry your attention span isn't enough to wait 2 minutes for the ski porn to start.
If you don't want to see "techy" filming, don't watch movies. Most people would like to see good skiing filmed well over good skiing filmed poorly. Does the "techy" filming really hurt your movie-watching experience?
Why do you care about these guys long term success or what they're doing with their lives? They'll do fine, although i'm sure they appreciate your concern. For the record, many of the guys in Stept are getting degrees and making these movies. They are not in Boulder for all the pow it gets.

You can't please everyone I guess.

Ya i really hope Stept listens to you

It's apparent you know so much more about creating a ski movie then they do

You seem to be the only person in existence to not enjoy the way the movie was filmed

Also arguing with the filmer of the movie makes you look like an idiot, especially when your strongest point is "i dont give a fuck about lifestyle shots"

just really steller observations, keep up the good work bud

I won't quote it, because I'm a nice guy.

But what the fuck is your problem, dude? That time of the month again? You're losing your shit over something that has minuscule importance. Stop being such a chickenshit and go buy some goddamn tampons.

Guess who watches their movies?

So you guys are the ones who assign's characters allowance between blue and orange names? My huge ass post was a reply to DeSena's POV, just defending my point.

@VikingFjord Who the fuck said I wasn't pleased? I stated Network > Weight > 86 and added "a huge IMO".

And yeah I ranted hard while I had a "few" drinks but I like to think we speak things from the heart in such situations. Guess I'll call it a night.

THIS MOVIE SUCKED!

straight up, serious balls.

Great filming, great editing, great cinematography.

BUT

the skiing was 75% bullshit, not impressed, lets see what you guys can actually do, i know the stept crew is better than that.

i watch their movies, along with the rest of the urban community who are not huge pussies who leak vagina juice everywhere because they didnt like the filming. grow up fagoot, you got fucking owened by DeSena and the only defense you have is that you were drunk. real fucking neat bud

You sound like such an intellect. My only defense being that I was drunk? Did your parents rock the shit out of your head with a sledgehammer as a kid? People have their own opinion, deal with it.

I don't think you are appreciating just how much work goes into ski movies. The guys at stept DO work super hard, and as someone else said, the oldest of these guys are still fresh out univesity. Back when Network was filmed Cam Riley was in school full-time while at the same time filming one of the most groundbreaking urban segments in skiing (IMO). Stept is amazing at what they do, and the it really shows in their movies. Stept also does projects outside of the ski industry. Just because they ski a lot doesn't mean they don't work hard, or aren't investing in their future. So I wouldn't be too quick to accuse those guys of being lazy, because they take skiing very seriousely.

Maybe you should be including "clients" as well. While also addressing your dumbass response about them not being able to support themselves in the future, that is exactly what most of the Stept crew is doing/building. It's kind of hard to put into words how far off I think you are with this whole subject. I guess I would just suggest looking into Stept Studios. These guys are definitely trying to appeal to a wider audience and sure as shit are planning for their future.

I swore I wouldn't keep up with this rant anymore but I couldn't resist.

Is this what you call building their future?

A screencap of finalcutpro in a video that doesn't even exist anymore?

Satisfy their "clients"? Don't get all fancy about sponsors, don't flip things around.

http://www.steptstudios.com/clients/

Yeah I re-state my point, living of their sponsors ain't really "building a future" neither is busting your legs for a temporary income.

Definitely my last post, out of this thread for good.

i work with many of the STEPT guys and i'll say this:they are living their lives to fullest. the cliche phrase: "life is not a destination its a journey," holds court here. working to get "secure" in this world is a farce, just ask anyone who was 60ish year's old when the stock market crashed a couple years ago.
