The Drop

Movie coming out tomorrow with Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini...Looks super good and I'm pretty psyched to see it. Anyone else been looking forward to this? I feel like most movies coming out these days are utter CGI garbage so I usually get pretty stoked when I see something as genuine and refreshing as this come around...Not to mention Hardy and Gandolfini are two insanely good actors...

Based on a screenplay from Dennis Lehane (MYSTIC RIVER, GONE BABY GONE), THE DROP follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters - "money drops" - in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood's past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living - no matter the cost.

So I loved it. I thought it was great. In my opinion this is how a slow burner should be. it keeps giving you a little bit but you're never entirely sure what's going on until the end. Absolutely loved it.

However, the last 5 minutes I hated. They had a perfect ending and then they included one final scene that was not needed. If they had cut it I would give an A+

Overall I thought it was great. Would love to hear what other people thought

Now that I've had a day to think about it I think I was a little harsh on the ending. It's not that the ending is bad but like I said they had a perfect ending and they kept going. I can make an argument for the real ending which for me if I can justify it then it can't be that bad but I feel like the argument for what I think should've been the ending makes more sense.

Still love it, still think it's great. Hope you guys see it so we can talk about it because I love talking about movies

I thought it was really, really good. You don't see many movies these days that capture you with just a strong plot and convincing acting. No CGI, over the top sex scenes, or any bullshit needed...just a solid crime drama that keeps you guessing.

It's crazy how it kept you on the edge of your seat in such subtle ways though. You never knew what was going to happen but you always felt as if something bad was going to happen at any turn. I thought the ending was pretty awesome as well, and even that was a little suspenseful, which was cool.

And then there's the acting. I might be a little biased since Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini are two of my favorite actors, but holy shit, those dudes can act. Hardy was able to pull off a character that had so many layers to him, and perfected a Brooklyn accent when the dude has the thickest British accent ever in real life. He has a way of expressing emotion through his facial expressions that's pretty damn impressive as well.

Also, I thought that I'd see Gandolfini as Tony Soprano in this movie since he is pretty much the same sort of dude...But I (very surprisingly) did not see that at all...He did a real good job and I'm pretty stoked that it was his last film. Sort of eerie/sad to see him on screen though, he was one of the greats.

All in all, fantastic film. This probably won't cater to much of today's audiences since most movies are now shit...But for those who really enjoy great movies, definitely check it out.
