The double slash // where did it come from?

I've been noticing more and more over the past year that everyone is putting a double slash in their video titles. Just skim through the videos listed on the homepage if you don't know what I'm talking about. I was watching videos on a whitewater kayaking site today and noticed it over there as well. such a weird thing to become a trend.

Well, it's a clear way to separate rider's name and edit's name. Plus it looks better than separating them with " - "
